  1. And the truth should set you free! it amazes me that dusty sees how damaging walks are for his pitchers, but can't grasp that his batters drawing walks would help immensely. Yeah, Dusty's smart like that. Hendry may even agree with Dusty on this and that scares me even more.
  2. Seriously, has Hendry made any decent moves being in the seller position in previous years? I can't recall that there have been any good ones. I seem to recall him moving Flash to Houston a few years ago for a couple of Houston A ball pitchers, but I don't believe any of them panned out for us. I suppose there may have been other moves too, but I'm not that confident he'll be able to get the right prospect back in deal right now. If he wants a somewhat proven veteran, he seems to know how to get him. But all he's going to do is trade for a tall hard thrower who walks nearly as many as he strikes out. Maybe he'll get a small lefty with a nice minor league record but very weak peripherals. You nailed it gooney.....that's our Jimmy.
  3. I say put Nevin in Cf. Let's have some fun and sit back and enjoy the ride.
  4. IMO Hendry will think the Cubs have a shot until it's too late to make a good deal. He may be thinking since Pujols is out and Lee is coming back all they need is X to make them contenders. He's done this for the last 2 years and I don't see him changing his MO.
  5. The way Soriano is hitting right now I wonder if he is more comfortable in left now? He may want to stay in the OF and if he does how would that work out for the Cubs? Would they still be interested?
  6. Thanks T2E! I have 2 in there....Mead at 40 and Vincent at 43. It's a very exciting day for me!
  7. They would be if they faced our lineup. All you have to do is throw the ball towards the plate for the Cub hitters. Other teams might let a few pitches go to get a read on a young guy.
  8. Yep, I've been extremely busy recently, but summer is here and I should have a lot more time for NSBB. Talk to me Tink...any Upstate NY kids drafted?
  9. and Julian Tavarez and Travis Harper and Jose Valverde Gagne. Are you guys being serious, or making fun. I really cannot tell. My point is while not ignoring that usage exists, trying to speculate who did or didn't use is pointless because no one can tell. The players have a don't ask don't tell policy.
  10. So Hill, Marshall and the rest of the guys that were called up should be a combined 12-0 then.
  11. Really makes you wonder if Pie might be going to another team this July... Or they project him (Pie) to be a corner OF. I consider CF's to be like SS's, they can play anywhere.
  12. IMO struggle and has pain are two different things. I have no problem with Kerry getting checked out and the Cubs taking their time brining him back. Now, if Wood can't top 93 at any time he may have some issues but I didn't think he was all that bad last night except for the velocity.
  13. But Hendry isn't going to trade Jones so it doesn't matter. I don't think you'll see a trade where it looks like we're getting rid of him and throwing in cash to help, but I can see Hendry trading him as value in a package to bring in an impact player. I really can't. I would be very surprised if Hendry traded Jones. As would I. June 15th is when the Cubs can trade Jones. I don't see them making that type of move until near the end of July and I agree that Jones is in Chicago to stay. For a minimum of 2 years. For as long as Mr. Hendry is the GM anyway or the 3 year deal runs out.

  15. I don't know why so many people like CLee. Is it the 270 average and the 25 HR's along with horrible D?
  16. If Prior can find a steroid that can't be detected....sure.
  17. But now you can see him pitch in the Yankees vs Red Sox games that are on 50 times a year.
  18. Maybe Dusty can throw him a couple of innings on Saturday to get him loose for his start on Sunday. On Woody, I'm glad the Cubs are not rushing him. There's no way this team is good enough right now to compete for the playoffs and to push Wood would be foolish IMO.
  19. Who didn't see that coming. Have fun in all your future endeavors Wood. I don't think an exam, given what's happened so far, is a bad thing. I'd rather they be proactive than say "we don't know what the problem is". I agree. I'm thrilled the Cubs are on top of the situation instead of ignoring it or waiting for something bad to happen first.
  20. I'm sure the waiver wires will be full of really good players Hendry can add to the team to push that win total to 80.
  21. I've always liked kids that play multiple sports in HS.
  22. I love bashing Dusty as much as the next guy, but come on. He would not. If Hendry had a decent amount of good hitters I have no doubt that Baker would put the glovey/contact hitter Perez in the lineup at the 2 spot. I suppose we will have to disagree on this. Baker put Perez in the 2 hole even with Womach hitting 360 or so and on a hot streak.
  23. Bingo. Make the moves that will improve you for '07, since '06 is pretty much shot. Almost like an extended offseason, except some attention has to be given to make sure the current roster is feasible. The moves would have to be tailor made so the two geniuses that run this team can't screw it up. Hendry could put the best team out there and Baker would throw Perez at the 2 spot. IMO the players would have to be solid by the book players and do what Hendry and Baker think they should be capable of. Personally I don't trust Hendry to get the right players and I don't have any confidence in Baker in any way to use them correctly.
  24. Lofton over Pierre plus the prospects the Cubs lost. Oh well, maybe something good may come out of this.
  25. If you want fun and nostalgia then I'm all for Zim. If you want wins then I'm against hiring Zim. The '89 season made him look better than what he was -- and if it weren't for career years by Walton and Smith, we wouldn't have won the division. If you want to bring back somebody it should be Dallas Green as GM. If the stupid Trib (I think it was Stanton Cook) wouldn't have given him the ultimatum of being field manager or leaving, we would've at least made one WS (maybe more) appearance -- definitely more postseason appearances than what we did. He's still the best Cub GM in my lifetime. He got productive players and still was able to produce top talent in the minors. And Sutcliffe had a career year in 84. It often takes players having career years for the Cubs to win. Let me also add Zim also let the rookies play. I have no problem with Green as a GM either.
