  1. You make a good point Tim but please don't forget that Johnnie B is the manager and his love for vets may find Nevin a role as a starter somewhere in this lineup. I see him going to left once Lee comes back. Baker likes defense even more than veterans, though. Nevin is an absolute butcher in LF (or RF). Good enough for a game or two, but you wouldn't want him to be a starter out there. I'm more worried that you'll see Nevin push Walker back to 2B, who pushes wonderboy (Womack) out to LF. But the Cubs haven't had a guy like Nevin on the bench and I'm curious on how Baker is going to deal with him. I agree with your scenerio but once Lee comes back I see Nevin pushing somebody out of a job. It's not like Murton is a defensive specialist in left.
  2. Surely Oakland has some 35 year old guy the Cubs can pick up instead.

  4. The Corey Patterson trade is NOT embarrassing. This is a kid who SHOWED no remorse for sucking when he was with the Cubs. He showed no ambition to improving (part of the blame goes to the Cubs, as well as Patterson). And quite frankly....his career numbers SAY...Corey will return to the land of the Nefti Perez, before the yr is out. This is simply a "hot streak" and it won't last, especially once teams know how to pitch Corey. The Patterson trade was simply the best option at the time, and it will prove to be the BEST the Cubs could have done. And on Prior, I don't want just "getting something" for Prior. Everybody knows what Prior can do when he is healthy (SHOULD have won the Cy Young in 03, but oh well) thus the Cubs---if they decide to trade---should demand...a very good package for Prior. The Cubs DON'T have to trade Prior, and ONCE Prior gets healthy (it's a matter of time) he WILL be in the same class as Z. Was it a hotstreak in 2003 when Corey hit .298/.329/.511/.840 in 329 AB's? Corey was going through the natural progressions of a young hitter. Is it a coincidence that his numbers decreased dramatically after Dusty got to Chicago and now that he's in Baltimore, his numbers are back up to his 2003 range? I think not. 2003: .298/.329/.511/.840 2006: .291/.336/.507/.843 Those numbers look awfully similar don't they? The dude has speed, he has to learn to bunt and slap hit.
  5. Hendry counteracts by signing free agent Enrique Wilson.
  6. IMO last year I thought that Prior had very little movement on his pitches. Maybe I'm wrong but it seemed like a lot of hitters were able to fight off 2 strike counts that I hadn't seen fight off before.
  7. Yeah, I do like the 70+ over the average. Now just bring up Joshua to the big club.
  8. I had my chance to see him and missed the opportunity when he came to Syracuse, darn.
  9. Farnsworth would help give the Cubs a higher draft pick.
  10. He'd rather overpay for average talent.
  11. Let's also not forget that he kept Prior in too long and put Dave freaking Veres in during game 7 instead of Zambrano or Clement. " 2 Consecutive winning seasons, wow, how impressive. And he won a prestigious honor such as Sporting News' manager of the year. Twice. Holy Cow. Pedro Feliz was on deck when Barry Bonds tied Babe Ruth, he'd make a hell of a manager! And it was Dusty Baker himself that blew the 2002 World Series--he doesn' deserve better. Justin Breen, You Suck. Please never write another article about baseball. Ever Don't forget pitching around the dangerous Lenny Harris to get to the weak hitting Lowell.
  12. There has to be some really fast guy on an Independent League team that Hendry can pick up to give this team a boost.
  13. I hope you're kidding. For this team...sure Morgan would be the man. If you want to make this a complete mess why not go for it?
  14. So you're saying the Knicks are interested?
  15. It depends on what fast 200 hitter is released.
  16. I think Joe Morgan would be the perfect choice.
  17. The Blue Jays have signed him to a minor league deal.
  18. Well Andy can't quite put his finger on why the Cubs stink but he has some really good theories.
  19. That should put the Cubs in first by July.
  20. I've never seen Thomas and Hendry at the same time, is it possible they are the same person?
  21. So Hendry and Baker may actually be achieving something? You have to have a goal I suppose.
  22. I see the Cub hitters walk back to the dugout all the time, sometimes 2 at a time.
  23. I don't think it was. It confirms that the whole organization has no clue. Now I can relax and enjoy other things in life. $20 says you're watching twenty-four straight hours of Its a Wonderful Life. Maybe Jack Bauer can be George Baily in "24...It's a Wonderful Life". Jack has 24 hours to figure out the meaning of Christmas.
