  1. All the hype gets worse and worse as we get closer to the Super Bowl. The fewer the teams the more we hear some very horrible breakdowns by people searching for a story along with overstating the same stories over and over again.
  2. The Cubs are in win-now mode, and Hendry probably has to win-now to keep his job (hopefully), but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's 1000% win-now. Remember, they haven't traded any prospects this offseason. An outright win-now mode is going to include selling off some of the future for today. The Cubs are in a hedged win-now situation, as well they should be. Hendry was given X dollars to fix the mess he created. He's got no business being unhappy about having to rely on Pie. And I doubt he is unhappy. He wanted to go with Pie 2 years ago. I think he may have planned all along to go with Pie, and he spent money elsewhere knowing he wasn't going to spend big on CF. I don't understand the trade for Pierre then if he was thinking this 2 years ago.
  3. I wonder what the pot leaves told Vick?
  4. Here's a nice article about Manning: http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/peyton_manning_looking
  5. He not as good as his 2006 numbers suggest. The guys still can't hit lefties (228/.308/.428/.736in his career) and his numbers against righties (.282/.342/.517/.859 in his career) don't really cover the fact he can't hit lefties. And now his power numbers have gone up over the past three yrs (13 hrs/45rbis with 27 2B in 2004, to 32 hr/90 rbi with 38 2B) he has lost abit of patient (going from 78 strikeouts, to 128 strikeouts, while only going from 27 bb to 55 walks in three yrs). IMO, LaRouche won't be that much better then he was in 2006. I'm sure his average will go up abit, playing alongside Bay, but he isn't the bat they needed, but there are worst bats to acquire. But, seeing as the Braves were willing to give LaRouche up for a power reliever, should give the Pirates pause for concern. If I am Pittsburgh, I would had gone after Scotty Thorman. He sounds like Jones to me.
  6. I wonder what "on schedule" is? Do the Cubs have a target date for his return?
  7. He's a very good loogy. What if a team wanted him instead of Eyre and would give the Cubs the player they really covet? As you pointed out you would and I'm sure many GM's might prefer Ohman but some might prefer that "veteran presence" that Eyre has. notice the bolded part And this is from a post I made on page 1: He could always be part of a trade and not the main piece. i may be wrong here...but youre saying eyre could be the main piece in a trade, but the clearly better(on all fronts, stuff/age/price) option in Ohman cant be? lets trade the fat old fu....err guy Who knows who or what kind of package the Cubs would put together that might include Eyre or Ohman. My point is that I don't really care if either go in a trade as long as the trade makes the Cubs better and if they are the main piece of the trade or just a piece so be it. It depends on who the Cubs are trading with and what they want out of a Loogy. The Yanks might want an Eyre type guy and take the salary off the Cubs books while the Marlins would like an Ohman type of contract.
  8. So now you're backing off your prediction that the Cubs will win 100 games? Talk about fickle!
  9. I'm not sure Patterson would be better than Pie.
  10. If Izturis hits 270 and Pie has a 260/300 line the pitching and defense had better be way above average.
  11. Actually the reports on Wood, Miller and Prior are positive! Man, I hope and pray Prior is healthy! http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070117&content_id=1780798&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc Not to be a rotten egg, but it is, after all, cubs.com... Translation: there will be no CF acquisition. The new Cubs slogan: Tinker to Jones to Pie.
  12. It's too bad MLB took away his spinach.
  13. That's just sad. Even if he doesn't pitch an inning in 2007?
  14. I heard that on Mike and Mike. The difference being Drew can actually play defense but it is the NY Times. Imagine Bonds and Manny on the same team? Imagine Bonds, Manny and Big Papi in the same lineup. I was thinking personality wise those two would be quite a handfull but as you said, that lineup woould be too. The only thing to me is it after Bonds took the ampetimines that he started to hit again? Remember, he wasn't doing so well earlier in the year.
  15. No, I didn't say he doesn't have enough power to play left. I think it's entirely possible that he will. It's possible that he won't, but it's too soon to know either way. I'm kind of thinking that if he doesn't hit enough HR's, it likely won't be for lack of strength, but rather because he just doesn't hit the ball on the nose often enough. He would have Jones like numbers at the corner at best according to what you wrote, correct?

  18. Did Drew get hurt last year? I just don't remember him hurting it last year.
  19. I think a lot of this game depends on Mannings protection and if the pat DB's get away with holding like they usually do.
  20. White is putting together a nice string of games. Keep it up DJ (but don't leave after the season, please). His defense and rebounding are especially encouraging. Even though it's out of conference, I still think the UConn game is important. I'd love to see IU establish a pattern of being able to win on the road. UConn's down big time right now and it would be a nice time to take advantage of their slide. Of course, that might be the time they wake up.

  22. Yes, and not only that, but I believe Russ Grimm's interview with the Bears was his first HC interview. I like him, he's a no-nonsense kind of guy. OLine is the most underrated position coach in football. Shula to Miami might feed the nostalgia of Phins fans, but I just don't see how he's anywhere near ready to coach an NFL team. I'm a fins fan, but in no way do I want Mike Shula to become the next HC. Why? You could trade for Brian Gresie then?
  23. Or Ohman. ageing fat ass or young bad ass LOOGY....lets trade the ageing fat ass Ohman should be seen as untouchable except for the real deal in return...the kid will anchor pens in the future Ohman should not be considered anything close to untouchable. Ohman is the only reliable thing in our pen that isnt costing us multi millions yearly and he is the best we have regardless of cost(talking LOOGY here) why you trade cheap young serious talent before trading the guy has has had 10 too many donuts(today) and makes sick money is just unconscionable As I said earlier, he is an excellent choice to include if you are trading with a team on a strict diet (opps, budget!). Yes, my master plan to get Miggy C!
