  1. OK...I'm a conspiracy guy and I'm wondering, is it possible that illegal/performance drugs are behind the delays? Don't these guys have to pass a phsyical and at that physical do they have to be tested? Is it possible the teams are waiting for the crud to clear so they test ok?
  2. Or Ohman. ageing fat ass or young bad ass LOOGY....lets trade the ageing fat ass Ohman should be seen as untouchable except for the real deal in return...the kid will anchor pens in the future Ohman should not be considered anything close to untouchable. I agree. The only thing untouchable is Wrigley IMO.
  3. as much as i dont really like the muscrat, she sure as hell toes the company line...as bad as a writer as she is, she does her job very well I agree and I wonder if she writes for anyone else....does anyone know?
  4. Z is an enigma to me as I'm not sure what he would do. He fired Boras so maybe money isn't everything to him which may be a very good sign.
  5. Alexander Haig. He can't hit righties. But he slaps the heck out of the lefties!
  6. This. I don't want to say it, but I sorta feel like people that are fans of teams from all over the place aren't really... as good fans as those that are from the hometown team. I get into this hometown thing really strongly. Conciously thinking about it, I know that people are big fans even when they aren't from a certain place, but it just doesn't feel right to me. I don't want to disrespect anyone, but thats how I feel. Nothing confused me more than the friend I met in college who was a fan of teams from 4 different cities in the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA. To top it off, sort of became a Yankees fan in the late 90's, then claimed he always kind of liked them. Officially he's a Celtics, Flyers, Giants, Pirates fan. I'm a Red Wing, was a Viking and Bullet/Wizard fan big time when I was a kid. I just don't really care for the NFL other than the Syracuse kids and dispise the NBA thus the lack of interest in those sports.
  7. What is there to understand? He's a mediocre corner OF. Mediocre pitchers are making a ton of money. And mediocre guys who are considered quality top of the order CF are making lots of money. But mediocre corner OF are not in high demand. Perhaps. How was he OPS wise as a corner OF compared to other corner OF's? Last year, I think he was above average. But no sane GM will judge a guy by one year. Generally Jones is just another guy. And nobody is going to jump when they notice a GM really wants to get rid of just another guy. But if Hendry can sell him as a CF he may have more interest for Jones and that's what I think he's trying to do. I agree he is trying to push him out the door and other GM's know this but this happens with a lot of players that get traded and they get a decent return in many instances.

  9. Bingo. I still think it is possible that one of these lefties (Ohman or Cotts or Eyre) could be packaged with Jones to increase his trade value during the next 2 months. I suspect Hendry doesn't care as much about what he gets back for Jones as he cares about how much of the $11.67M due Jones over the next 2 years the trading partner is willing to pick up. A source, having no knowledge of any pending deal, said Hendry seems quite content to go with Murton in LF, Soriano in RF and a half-season placeholder in CF like a Steve Finley or Darin Erstad just as long as they free up cash by jettisoning the "disgruntled" Jones. The object of the Hendry's game here is to get rid of Jones and pick up little to no cash on his guaranteed money. Hoops I just don't understand the lack of interest in Jones. I was hoping he'd be part of a package that would bring a good SS to the Cubs but what you just said he's being dumped plus losing Ohman for nothing. Along with thinking Pie is ready it sounds as if they think Izturis is the answer at SS too.
  10. Among all qualified quarterbacks in NFL history (at least 1,500 passing attempts), Culpepper ranks sixth in passer rating. Take away Moss and you have a quite ordinary QB that makes very poor decisions.
  11. Does he know who the Raiders are?
  12. Or Ohman. Why would we want to trade the less expensive, more effective one? Especially when considering the fact that Eyre's market value is well above his actual value, trading Ohman instead of Eyre would most likely be foolhardy. Well, the question is which player the other teams would prefer. Maybe Eryre doesn't tickle their fancy, but Ohman does. In that case, you trade Ohman without blinking an eye, if it involves a player that can really help the team. Now while I see that a loogy is intregal part of the bullpen, but what kind of player do you expect to recieve for a loogy? I know they are hard to come by, and IMO, the Cubs have four guys who would qualify as potential loogy (Rapada/Cotts/Ohman/Eyre), but even for Ohman, you're prolly not going to get anything more then a decent bench player (ala Mark Sweeney caliber) or a couple of solid B prospect. So, if it came down to it, I would rather keep three lefties in the pen (with Cotts as the long man/emergency starter) with the possibility of moving either Eyre/Ohman at the deadline this yr, or after the 07 season. He could always be part of a trade and not the main piece.

  14. Wow, it's kind of amazing that Hendry's having so much trouble trading this guy given that contract. Perhaps he's not as intent on trading Jones as rumor suggests. That would be good news. I agree unless Jones is hurt and we don't know about it. And/or other GMs think Jones isn't likely to repeat is 2006 numbers. Which is understandable. Maybe. A guy that hits left handed and puts out decent numbers for a price, there should be somebody out there interested. Of course if I were a GM I'd wonder why Hendry wants a lefty bat when he has Jones already.

  16. Probably. Let's hope Mr. Hendry gives Z some nice reasons to stay financially wise during these discussions.
  17. As for Soriano blocking Pie, I was referring to the comments Hendry made about signing Soriano to play "1 position" without stating specifically which position it would be but later alluding to RF or CF (it was posted somewhere, maybe the Soriano signing thread). I took that to mean Soriano won't be happy to play CF one season then LF another, and RF still another, and since he's here for 8 seasons, I'd rather keep him happy. I agree with your sentiment about Jones. It is, after all, his contract year, so playing poorly and/or pitching a public fit is probably not in his best interest. That said, it wouldn't be the first time a star publicly feuded with management and caused a stink in the clubhouse despite being a FA within a year or two (Nomar in Boston, Sammy in Chicago, Terrell Owens in football does it every year). I'd probably bet Jones won't make too much noise, but we'll have to hope Hendry knows Jones well enough to make the right call one way or the other. I thought Jones signed a 3 year deal?
  18. We'll have to get George Baily to lasso it then.
  19. Lock up the Z! I'm curious on what kind of deal Prior is going to get.
  20. Really? I thought he made a lot of horrible decisions and it just gets faster in the NFL.
  21. I agree and I'm hoping that Hendry can sell high or not at all.
  22. One thing that I think could be a factor is this game is if the Saint receivers finish or run out their routes if they are secondary receivers. I thought the Seahawk receivers did a horrible job of doing that. They just glided around without a purpose if they were not the #1 option and when Hassleback got in trouble did a very poor job of trying to get open. If the Saint WR's can do that, they have a good chance to win. Also, does Alexander always turtle when he's about to be hit?
  23. Well, don't you dare think that Saints fans give a crap about the feel good story. It pisses us the hell off. Most of my friends and I were born Saints fans and raised diehard Saints fans who follow all the stats, players, and watch every game, etc. It sucks to have the attention diverted away from a good football TEAM and focused on a good STORY. As Cubs fans, we've followed their stats, players, schedules, and scores for years and years now, just waiting for the time when we can revel in the fact that we have a good team and look forward to something good coming from the Cubbies. What if all that patience and devotion were suddenly thrown to the wind thanks to a "feel good story". It's bullcrap. On a side note, what is the status of Joe Horn? Thumbs up? Down? Joe Horn says Joe Horns not sure right now.
  24. I have no pro teams in my area and the Cubs were a team I picked for some reason when I was 8. I always found Yankee and Met fans to be obnoxious so I had no interest in those teams and that cute little Cubbie on the Cubs sleaves sold me. If there was a team that had dinosours as their mascot I'm sure I would have picked them. The Raptors!!! :D That my friend would have been perfect. And BbB...you have disgusted dino fans from all over the world with that thought!
