  1. I have no pro teams in my area and the Cubs were a team I picked for some reason when I was 8. I always found Yankee and Met fans to be obnoxious so I had no interest in those teams and that cute little Cubbie on the Cubs sleaves sold me. If there was a team that had dinosours as their mascot I'm sure I would have picked them.
  2. That's it! 25 in A ball is pretty old isn't it? He did pretty well though.
  3. What happened to Sam Fund (sp)? Wasn't he a CF too? Does Colvin project to have enough power to be a corner OF? According to craig he doesn't so why move him?
  4. I'm hoping that he threw like that due to the injury and no way could he have a worse arm than Pierre. Even if he took his glove off and threw right handed.
  5. I think Sosa has to get over the steroid thing and the beaning along with age to be successful. I'm curious on how hard he worked out over the off season. I think he would definitely need to get over it. But he's always been thin-skinned, and even working out all year wouldn't help him get his timing back. But he's been given a sort-of free pass the past year on the steroids thing because he was out of baseball (like McGwire). he plays again, he's under the microscope again. You bet the press is going to be looking at him and if he has no muscle mass even more so. The "I wanted to lose weight or be in better shape" thing isn't going to fly. Off course if he makes the team and hits 150 people might just ignore him until he's waived.
  6. I'd like to know this as well. Is he (Jones) that upset with the coaching change? Upset with the (early season) fan treatment? What's the deal? Something is weird about this whole thing. A part of me thinks Hendry needs to tell him to suck it up and deal with it. Sullivan wrote in his column yesterday that it was a combination of factors. The fans were a primary reason for his displeasure, given his 0-13 start to the season and his mom getting the business for defending her son in the stands. And anecdotally, Jones preferred Baker as his manager and that was one of his reasons for coming here. He supposedly wasn't happy the Cubs canned Dusty. So Dusty did recruit a player! IMO Jones is worried about being platooned and he knew Baker wouldn't do it to a veteran with his skills.
  7. And I'm just the opposite. I refuse to pay for tickets to a baseball game when the organization has made it very clear they don't want me there. (ie. smoking not allowed ANYWHERE on the stadium grounds at Petco) And when I am successful at quitting, I still won't go. I will still be bitter that they didn't want my money then, therefore they can't have it now. Well I hope you are successful in quitting smoking. As a non smoker I hated it when someone would light up in front of us and the smell would be there the whole game. I understand what you're saying about being targeted and that is frustrating I'm sure. Is there a law in California about smoking in public places like in NY?
  8. I'd like to know this as well. Is he (Jones) that upset with the coaching change? Upset with the (early season) fan treatment? What's the deal? Something is weird about this whole thing. A part of me thinks Hendry needs to tell him to suck it up and deal with it. It's a little odd to me. Were the fans on him that much or is he too thin skinned? A combination of the two probably.
  9. Z or Marquis should be batting 6th in that lineup.
  10. I think Sosa has to get over the steroid thing and the beaning along with age to be successful. I'm curious on how hard he worked out over the off season.
  11. Pujols has pretty soft hands and does a nice job at first.
  12. The conference is wide open this year as there are no dominate teams and this goofy schedule will determine who wins more than talent. Louisville is a hit or miss team this year.
  13. Maybe I'm not that big of a baseball fan because I refuse to pay to watch or listen to baseball other than going to a game. That goes for any sport.
  14. I agree with you and if they do go the Erstad or Finley route AND keep Izturis at SS this team is going to have 3 easy outs and they can't afford that with this starting pitching staff. I think Pagan could put up better numbers than those 2 guys at no cost. Not that that is saying much. IMO Church is going to cost a lot and I just don't see Hendry going that route with Pie in the wings unless he envisons Pie or Church as a corner OF, which I hope he doesn't. I have no idea what's going on with this Jones situation. Why is Jones so heckbent on leaving? Something is going on here because I thought Jones was suppose to be a "great" clubhouse guy according to the reports out of Minny.
  15. Just looks unlucky to me. 1.08 WHIP, 3 K/BB and nearly a K per inning Unless he's giving up some HR's.
  16. I'd love to see the Jays beat out the Yanks and Red Sox and win the AL.
  17. Will it be Jones? Pie? Stopgap? I'm fine with Jones as being the CF but I would like to see how he handles it in the spring before committing to him. I would also be fine with Pie if the Cubs upgrade at SS with the trade of Jones. The thing that worries me unless I missed a transaction is the lack of a good defensive CF on the team. I assume the Cubs will still have Pagan around but since they played Pierre every stinking day at CF we never really got to see him play there along with Jones never playing there either during the year. I admit since the Cubs were in the playoff hunt until the last game of the season they had to play Pierre there for every inning of every game. I wasn't impressed with Pagan as a good defensive OF by any means. Granted, if Murton, Jones and Soriano hit well they may not come out and they might throw a fit, well Jones, if he is taken out for defensive reasons in the 8th or 9th inning of a close game. I could see the Cubs sliding Jones over to LF and then putting a defensive CF in the game. If they have one.
  18. who brings two pencils to a bar??? Maybe it's two guys that haven't been circumsized.
  19. Mark my words, Peter will use Rex's past quarterback ratings as an reason to dump on him at some point. In fact if I go look through his archives, I'm pretty damn sure he's already done it! Plus his point is stupid. Peyton Manning played like crap. Brady played pretty poorly too. By the way, every time Robbie Gould makes a kick I get more and more pissed off. Not because I hate the Bears or anything, but because he sucked when he was at Penn State. And I blame the PSU coaching staff for that (since they inexplicably refuse to hire a special teams coach). Sometimes I wonder if Penn State wins despite the coaching staff.
  20. I was watching 24 so I don't know what the Pats did on the Chargers field, what exactly did they do?
  21. ouch I know one thing, the next time Merriman gets "injured" and has to be taken to the locker room, I'd have an NFL escort verify what exactly he's doing back there. Especially when it looks like a serious injury but 5 minutes later he's running around as if nothing happened. Just sayin'. He should no longer have the presumption of being on the level, 'cuz he clearly isn't. I thought he was suspended for 4 games because he didn't write a thank you note to the Chargers for drafting him?
  22. hey the media has to have some reason why the worst quarterback in history does well today So this must make Parcells the village idiot then.
  23. There was a guy from Carolina that did that last year too.
  24. I'm curious if anyone knows if Dallas tried to take advantage of the bad secondary because I haven't heard that quite enough yet?
