You get a free pass with the first test failure in MLB. for all drugs or just greenies? All as far as I know. At least that is what they said on Mike & Mike.

I can't imagine Floyd even playing in the NL at this point. Exactly. There's no reason why the Cubs Management should even bother looking at Floyd. Not sure if I can agree with that. We need a fourth outfielder who is capable of starting for a few weeks if a corner outfielder went on the 15 day DL. I'm of the mind that, in a worst case scenario, Murton could handle right field for a few weeks, sliding Floyd over to left. While you could say that Pie would be that insurance, if he isn't ready to be in the bigs by then anyway I'd rather not stunt his growth. Floyd is perfect because he's literally good for a couple weeks, before he pulls something and is out for a few himself, ha. It just depends on the contract. A million bucks is nothing to this team and Floyd would be well worth it. Even better if you could get a non guaranteed contract so we could test him out in spring, and if he's obviously done with, release him. Even a million bucks guaranteed doesn't keep us from doing that. I thought the Cubs already signed a left handed corner 4th OF? I just don't see the value unless he is signed for 1 +incentives and doesn't complain if he is healthy and not playing. I just don't see him getting enough AB's in the NL to keep him happy.

Bobby Murcer's removed tumor was malignant
CuseCubFan69 replied to Post Count Padder's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Sad. Being a Cub fan in NY I had quite a few battles with my Yankee friends about Murcer, me saying he stunk, when he was traded to the Cubs for my favorite player I was crushed! I wish him the best for what remains of his life. -
Isn't it near time to shut Guzman down to be ready for the spring?

Why do people talk about the virtues of other sports' playoff scenarios but also claim you must win your conference to win in football? Basketball has regular season and tourny champs and then has the national tourny. And there's no need to win your conference with win a championship. Yet that sport lets you "prove it on the field". No conference has a playoff, it's just one added game for more money, the same thing people bitch at the Big Ten about with the BCS controversy. Actually for many years college basketball made it a requirement that you had to win your conference to be able to go to the NCAA's. Since college football teams only play 12 games or so the conference champion is the best way to go. How can you say no conference has a playoff? It's a 1 game playoff. I agree 100% it's just for money but one nice thing it does is force 2 teams to play that may have not played during the regular season.

McGwire doesn't fit with Cards greats
CuseCubFan69 replied to CubsLadyinSTL's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Let's face it, we have a lot more information on todays players than the public did years ago. This reminds me of all the cases of child kidnapping that happened years ago but no one really knew about compared to the milk carton don't let the kid out of your site days of today. All the information that we keep getting and all the little details we now know about every players life just puts them all under the microscope more and more each year. Years ago would we know if a player beat the heck out of his wife? I really doubt it. The press also kept a lot of information to themselves back then and now they look for the tinest hint of scandal, especially in NYC. IMO players have cheated throughout baseball history to get an edge on the competition and jumping on the steroid boys and not them is misguided. Maybe the writers don't want to look in the mirror because they are just as much to blame for hiding the facts as the players themselves back then. -
Well then you really need to take a step back and think rationally, because a 1-loss Louisville team doesn't have anywhere near the ammo to complain that Auburn had. There are 119 D1 teams and they play 12-13 games a year. There are always going to be "we just don't know" scenarios. Even a playoff system is going to be leaving people on outside claiming we'll never know. I agree that going undefeated gives you more of a claim to play in the big game. My point was being left out even though you won your conference and had the same record as one of the teams. This is how you can't claim "you never know". You win your conference. This gets rid of the soft or tough out of conference schedule unless you're in the Big 10 when you don't play everyone and have no playoff.

As annoying as it may be, there's a reason. The goodoleboys routinely field the best football teams, with the exception of ND. If you want the system to change, you have to do more than just complain. Cuse, You and I had a conversation much earlier in the year and you suggested that the SEC's true ability would be "exposed" during the bowl season. I truly wasn't going to open my mouth after the bowl season, but your hatred of the SEC continues to affect your ability to evaluate in my opinion. The SEC was 6-3 in bowl games, and they legitimately could have been 9-0. Alabama lost to Oklahoma State on a last minute field goal. Kentucky beat Clemson 28-20. South Carolina beat Houston 44-36. Georgia beat Virginia Tech 31-24 Tennessee lost to Penn state, but the game was tied 10-10 with less than 10 minutes left. The Vols had possession, were driving down the field, fumbled the ball into hands of a Penn State player whom returned the fumble for a touchdown. Auburn beat Nebraska 17-14 Arkansas lost to Wisconsin 14-17. Arkansas outgained the Badgers 367-203 but found a way to lose that game. LSU beat Notre Dame 41-14 Florida beat Ohio State 41-14. The SEC certainly was down for a few years, but I don't believe this year can be included in that statement. And Houston, Nebraska, Clemson and VTech could have won those games too making them 2-7. I said the SEC was solid. It's just not the end all of college football. I really wish the Big East could have played some SEC or Big 10 teams in the bowls to truely see but once again in college football we will never know and have to debate it. Do you remember when a 12-0 Auburn was left out of the BCS Championship game and how it felt to be left out? Well, that's how I felt about Louisville. Louisville shouldn't have lost then. That's the nature of the system, if a team loses, they no longer control their destiny (sans Boise State). I agree and it's the fates I have a problem with. Also, if Rutgers did go undefeated they wouldn't have gone either as Florida or Michigan would have been selected instead.

What's the word on Coach P out there now Vance? Depends on who you ask. Some say he's going to be back. Some say he wants to be the Giants GM. Others say, he's quitting. I've also heard that Jones wants him back. (He's said this publicly.) But I've also heard, Jones secretly wants Parcells to quit. I can't imagine him getting out of football. GM? Wow, that I would have never guessed because he is so hands on. Thanks.

How Much Do Metal Bats Matter?
CuseCubFan69 replied to Outshined_One's topic in Cubs Minor League Talk
A barrel diameter not exceeding a maximum of 2 5/8 inches. A length to weight differential of no greater than minus 3. I've heard they might go to a ZERO difference in the future. -
What's the point in giving Troy or Temple a shot? What's the benefit? The fact that basketball does it is hardly justification. The minute you start handing out invites to every conf champ, is the minute you reduce the incentive for teams to schedule tough OOC games. A tough OOC schedule not only increases your odds of losing that game, but it can hurt you the rest of the year. Nobody wants to see Florida, LSU, USC or OSU playing Central Michigan or BYU in December. And that is part of the reason why this won't work. And why should it happen? Because you say so? I think people need to get away from the "should" talk, as it's going to get you no where. Come up with a system that would work (ie, satisfy all participants economic interests), and you might have something. But simply being a D1 school doesn't guarantee you a shot at the national football title. There's no inherent right to such a thing. Schools that want to contend for a title invest in their program and take the necessary steps to make it possible. And before we get into the complaints about money getting in the way of what's right, stop. There aren't many successful ventures in this world, and especially in this country, that don't take economic factors into account. If we want big exciting matchups available for our viewing pleasure in various formats, you're going to have to just deal with the fact that money plays a huge role here. I just generally disagree with your whole philosophy on this goony. What's the point of fielding a team that isn't allowed to compete for a Championship? What other sport does that? Forget college basketball...what other sport, professional, college, or otherwise, provides no opportunity for an undefeated team to have a shot at the championship? No other sport manages to let money get in the way of every team having an opportunity. Why should it happen? Because you can't definitively tell me that Florida is the National Champion. Because this argument is taking place is the exact reason why something needs to happen to make a change. I understand money plays a huge role, and that's why those conferences would have to get an automatic bid somehow into whatever tournament was decided to be implemented. But just because Boise State gets into a tournament doesn't mean you aren't going to have "big exciting matchups." I don't know about you, but the BSU-Oklahoma game was a HELL of a lot more exciting than last nights snoozer. I fundamentally disagree with you here. Yes, being a D1 school should guarantee you a chance at a title. It defies the entire idea of "sport" to not have that opportunity. Why play if you can't win? So you don't like the crumbs off the ground? The BSU-OK game would have had even more excitement if it meant the winner moves on in the playoffs.

The funny thing is that Miami just got burned by a "college coach"...why would they go after another one? After a couple of losing season some college school would come after Carroll and he'd probably go right back to it...not sure why you'd want to travel that road again if you're Miami. The difference being that Carroll is a former NFL coach and assistant while Saban wasn't (to my knowledge) Nick Saban used to be an assistant coach with the Browns and Oilers. Saban and Trussel were also one time Syracuse University assistants! Where hasnt Saban been? Thats a shorter list. :D True!

Be careful what you wish for. If history is any indication of future success the Big ThreEast will have a run for its money in this bowl. If FSU and Miami get off their ass and the other Big East dropout Virginia Tech field better teams it wont be such a crummy bowl anymore. You'll have you shot at Miami/FSU almost every year. I'm sure they will get better. It's that IMO I'd rather play some SEC, Big 10/12 or PAC 10 teams more often. The Big East plays the ACC all the time in the regular season a lot too.

What do you mean voted down? The poll rankings are meaningless after the championship game, and no big east team deserved a shot at the championship game. My point is if they go to a 4 or 8 teams system if there is a Big 10 or 12 or SEC team with the same record as a BE team the Big 10/12 and SEC teams are always ranked higher thus getting an advantage. And Louisville did deserve a shot at the Championship game. They would have had that chance if they didn't lose to Rutgers. But they didn't "deserve" a shot anymore than any number of other teams. Not all records are created equal. Especially when it comes to the goodoleboys.
