I kept asking the people really, really, really, really terrified by this stretch to explain how they KNOW getting swept now means the Cubs couldn't possibly beat the Mets months later in the playoffs despite what the Mets did last year, but there were no takers. That only applies if we make the playoffs. After the Cardinals run us down, the competition for the WC will be fierce.

where did i say otherwise? Not exactly but the with the continuous expression of concern I just wonder what there is really to be concerned about. Unless the crazy losing continues the only thing we've lost is setting win records. If Arrieta has lost the magic and some of our other pitchers show age, it has implications beyond this season.

just because the stretches you listed start on the 1st days of the month don't make them less arbitrary than the one i referenced. i really don't think it's making any kind of leap to say that a 26-24 run is a good stretch of mediocrity. Yeah, but six weeks ago we thought we might be good enough to break the crapshoot, so it is fair to be disappointed. even if they play the rest of the season at that pace they still likely make the playoffs and then it's all crapshoot from there anyways.

Arrieta's ability to control his violent stuff was always based on otherworldly strength and body control. It wouldn't take much in terms of being tired or aging to lose it. (I mean, duh, being a God-level pitcher is hard). -

The Cubs finished behind the Pirates just last year. They aren't going to give up forever just because they got blown out this year. Fortunes can change fast.
