The SEC does have some interest in Va Tech. While Miami, Ga Tech, Clemson, and Florida State have also been mentioned, from what my booster friend told me he's heard, the SEC doesn't think they add anything to the conference as far as expanding viewerships. If they want to keep up with what the Big Ten and Pac-10 are doing, the SEC feels it needs to expand into areas where they don't already have a foothold. Florida is already covered as is Georgia and South Carolina. Adding aTm would be huge in expanding into Texas and Duke and UNC would add North Carolina in addition to making the SEC a more lucrative conference when it comes to basketball. Missouri would probably be the fourth choice, though there is an eye toward Kansas. Also, there's been some talk that Va Tech and Virginia won't be separated, but who knows for sure. I don't completely trust this guy. He's in the know, but I also think he exaggerates and represents his opinion as coming from other stuff he's heard, but if you believe him...the SEC's choices would be 1. aTm 2. UNC 3. Duke 4. Missouri (Getting those would easily allow the conference to add two schools to the east and two to the west without any reallingment. Failing that, the other schools that would be considered: Va Tech, Kansas, West Virginia, Clemson, Miami, Florida State, Ga Tech, and TCU. Oh, I should have added that really aTm and Oklahoma were the preferred two in the beginning, but it appears Oklahoma preferred the Pac-10 from the beginning and so the SEC will have to look elsewhere.
