  1. Doesn't mean he wouldn't have been a good fit as the bench coach. With the Cubs in transition and bringing up a lot of these young players that Sandberg has coached and been around the last four years would have been very beneficial to the Cubs and these players. Listach also has been around these players. Listach worked in the system for quite awhile too. Based on experience as minor league manager and coaching, Listach is more qualified than Sandberg. While Sandberg has the name and illustrious playing career, he's still relatively inexperienced in coaching/managing.
  2. So, when Sandberg doesn't get a major league gig, and I don't think he will, is he going to go work in the minors for some team or just sit around the house waiting for that job as someone's major league manager? I like Sandberg and he was my favorite player, but Quade was more qualified and experienced for the job. How many managers do you know that got a major league job with only four years minor league managing experience? I'm sure there are some, but I bet most have far more experience.
  3. It appears there's not the demand for passes this year as there have been in year's past. I remember when passes would sell out in 20 minutes. I noticed today they were for sale, and still a few hours later there are still passes available. I also noticed the price has gone up $60.
  4. i got George Davis and Julio Franco.
  5. We continue the march toward a top five pick. Patrick Peterson, come hither!
  6. What would be the reaction if Moss returns to New England? They get Moss back and the Vikings draft pick as well.
  7. Romo was miked up on Monday night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...amp;feature=sub I was impressed that on the play he got hurt, his first question was "Did he catch it?"
  8. The only way Phillips keeps his job is if the Cowboys make the playoffs. I don't see anyway that happens. If Kitna goes 7-3, we'll still be 8-8 on the season. The bad news for Phillips is the 1-5 start was accomplished with Romo, so he won't have the injury excuse to fall back on.
  9. They do have games against DET and ARI. But they also have GB, PHI (2), NYG, IND, WAS, JAC I'll go 5 wins. DET, ARI, WAS, and then a surprise win somewhere. Maybe they beat the Jags next week -- but it might be too soon. I have us getting wins against the Jags, Lions, and Cardinals. That would have us at 4-12. That's probably bad enough for a top five draft pick.
  10. Here's the remaining schedule. Remember that Kitna who hasn't played regularly in 2 years will be starting all but the last 2-3 games. Which of these are wins? vs Jacksonville @ Green Bay @ Giants vs Detroit vs Saints @Indianapolis vs Eagles vs Redskins @ Arizona @ Philly I know the team has talent. But we went 1-5 through the easiest part of the schedule. Winning 6 games out of that remaining schedule would have been tough with Romo. Without him, it's even tougher. There are two, maybe three games there where the Cowboys will be favored. This team finishing 5-11 or 4-12 isn't out of the realm of possibility. It's a shame that we're at this point as we shouldn't have dug this ugly a whole with the undisciplined play, but they did.
  11. Wow, top 5? Really? There are 10 teams with 2 wins or less and another 5 with 3 wins or less. Dallas faces 3 of those teams the rest of the year, plus a bunch of other mediocre and/or injury depleted teams. I would think only the Giants and Colts games are really scary. The league, and especially the NFC, is filled with mediocre teams. I think Dallas stands as good of a chance of picking outside the top 10 than in the top 5. Dallas will be playing the next 6-8 weeks with Kitna at QB. We may beat Jacksonville, but then I can't see us beating the Giants or Packers with Kitna. So, assuming a win against the Jags, losses to Giants and Packers...then maybe a win at home against Detroit, losses to New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Philly...if Romo returns after missing 7 games, we would be 3-10 with three games to play. Those three games would be Philly, Washington, and Arizona. Is 4-12 bad enough for a top five pick? I don't know, but it's surely likely. It's the NFL, man. Teams rarely lose to all the teams they should and rarely beat all the ones they should. No Freaking Logic. I'd be surprised if Dallas gets a top 5 pick unless they just quit. Lame duck coach, team loses the QB, it wouldn't shock me at all if there's a whole lot of quit on this team.

The difference is Romo has some ability to elude rushers. The o-line hasn't held up well this year. Kitna is going to be demolished. Maybe he'll look better than he did last night after entering the game rusty, but it isn't promising. Romo may not be Peyton Manning, but he's a better QB than many give him credit for. The drop off from Romo to Kitna is going to be huge, I fear.
  13. With Kitna at the helm, Dallas may not get to five wins. If they finish 4-12, it's likely to get a top five pick. I agree that Carolina, Buffalo, and SF are likely 1-3 in some order. Oakland already has 3 wins, so if they win 2 more they are at 5. Arizona, St. Louis, and SF are all in the same division and still play each other. Someone has to win those games, so that likely ups their win totals. Jacksonville is already at 3. They play Dallas on Sunday. Will a Kitna-led Cowboys team who just got demoralized on Monday be able to bounce back? I don't know. Chicago is already at four wins...and still gets to play Buffalo and Detroit. Without Romo, I think Kitan wins 2 of the possible 6-8 games he will play (Detroit and Jacksonville). Maybe I'll be wrong, and as a Cowboys fan, no matter how bleak, I never root for my team to lose, so I will want them to win. I just don't see it. So, when Romo returns, I think we'll be 3-9, 3-10, or 3-11. Will Romo be able to run the table against Washington, Arizona, and Philly after sitting out all that time? If he has any setbacks at all...he may end up on IR. So, I think Dallas could do as poor as 3-13 with 6-10 the absolute best I could hope for. 6-10 likely puts us somewhere around 8-12, 3-13 and we're probably 3-5.

  15. This is what I would do assuming Dallas has a top five pick. 1st round: Patrick Peterson (1st choice), or Marcell Dareus (2nd choice) or Prince Amukamara (3rd choice). There's no linemen that are even close to being a top five, so I think looking at these guys who could be impact players on defense is a better route to go. 2nd round: Demarcus Love (1st choice), Orlando Franklin, or Quinton Carter. - If Costanza or Solder slips this far, I'd grab them easily, but with the lack of quality tackles in this draft I don't see either being there. It's a stretch to think Love will, but I can hope. 3rd round: Franklin could still be here, but if not Mike Pouncey, Duenta Robinson, or Jason Pinkston. I'd also cut Davis if possible and make a hard push for Mankins.
  16. Of course this is a [expletive] year to draft OL. Outside of that where is the biggest need? I agree that there's no o-lineman that look to be front-line players. I'm hoping to get Peterson in the first and then take o-line in the second. Maybe Jerry will spend in free agency and we can add Mankins there. Peterson or Prince would be fine with me. This looks like a potential trade down year. The problem with trading down is can you get enough value to give up that pick. I'm assuming we'll draft fourth or fifth. Top five will likely be Buffalo, Carolina, San Francisco, Dallas, and Detroit. Cleveland could also be in that group as well. I think Buffalo and San Francisco will go with QB's considering they don't have one. I don't think Carolina goes QB since they took Clausen last year, but you never know. Cleveland may also look at QB as well. Detroit could go in any number of directions, and they might look very hard at Peterson as well. If Peterson isn't available, I might strongly consider trading down or taking Dareus who could play end in our 3-4.
  17. Of course this is a [expletive] year to draft OL. Outside of that where is the biggest need? Head coach? LB and secondary? There will definitely be a head coaching change. Linebacker, I'm not so sure. The team took Sean Lee with a second round pick last draft. He needs some development time, but he'll be ok, I think. We're set at outside LB with Ware and Spencer. The secondary does need help. Letting Ball start at safety was a mistake. Even though Peterson is a CB, he would be my pick if the Cowboys can get him. He'll replace Scandrick as the third CB immediately and could push Jenkins and Newman for a starting position.

  19. Can we go ahead and start the draft thread?
  20. Well now that the Cowboys season is over at 1-5 and Romo out. I hope that instead of Kitna, they turn it over to McGhee. I don't think he's worth a crap, but I'd rather let a youngster have a chance to learn something rather than watch Kitna flail around out there.
  21. Well, with Romo out for what is likely the season, I guess I can now start hoping the Cowboys draft Patrick Peterson.
  22. Saw this on another forum and thought it was great. http://i390.photobucket.com/albums/oo350/ChoppinBroccoli72/Ref1.jpg?t=1288033380
  23. Not disappointing at all: Ok that's great!
  24. It's his deal. Back to the officiating that was just horrendous all game. They didn't call a hold all game, right? At most it was one. They blew the TD to Quarless but Childress still blew it by not challenging it when he should have. The back judge was standing 5 feet from Percy in the end zone and he wasn't even close to getting his right foot down. It was just terrible all around. The officiating was bad, but it wasn't any worse than the calls in the Dallas-Minnesota game. The only difference is this time the calls went against the Vikings rather than for them.
  25. I have tickets to game 3 of the World Series in Arlington.
