  1. Are you convinced that Clausen isn't the answer or is it that you just like Luck that much as a prospect? I agree that Luck is the best choice for a first pick if he comes out, but is he the best choice for Carolina? I've seen a lot of mock's send Green your way.
  2. Hiring Jim Harbaugh would be great for your franchise, but if he chooses to leave CFB, he's gonna probably have his pick of the Dallas and Minnesota jobs too. Or at least 1 of them. Gonna be hard to say no to coaching teams that already have that level of talent to work with. I'm not sure Dallas would go after Harbaugh. First, if Garrett can 4-2 over the remaining games, the job will be his to keep. Winning four more games is going to be a steep climb due to the schedule, but if he pulls it off, he would have gone 6-2 over the games since taking over and I can't see Jerry giving the job to anyone else. He may get to keep it just going 3-3. Anything less, and it will be a toss up. If Garrett is not retained, I think Jerry goes after a name coach like Gruden, Cowher, Billick, etc. Also, if the VY stuff in Tenn leads Fisher to opt out of his contract, I think Jerry would go after Fisher as his first choice. Harbaugh's name could be in play for Dallas, but I don't know that he would be Jerry's first choice. If Jerry goes college, he's more likely to try to get Saban.
  3. Should have been a facemask instead of a horsecollar. They called the wrong foul, but either way the result was correct. He's not just grazing the facemask, he's got fingers locked in it.
  4. I'm all aboard the Cam train. I can talk myself into Newton, Mallett or Locker. Or Stanzi in the 2nd/3rd. I just really want a QB I can have hope in. Will Newton be willing to take a paycut to come to the NFL?
  5. No, but the building could become an eyesore if the owners did nothing to maintain it.
  6. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/25909428 Ricketts could use that fact to his advantage. The state would love paying millions a year to keep up an old, empty stadium. But Ricketts (or whomever he sells it to in this scenario) owns Wrigley. Why would the state be responsible for the upkeep on a privately owned building? Does simply having a building with landmark status entitle it to funding? I may be wrong, but the landmark status limits you from tearing down or making changes to the building, but it doesn't legally require you to spend for upkeep.
  7. I think if needed, Selig could get involved and twist the arms of his buddy Reinsdorf to make it happen. He knows Wrigley needs repairing and it's likely he could use his best interest of baseball clause to force it through.
  8. I don't know how much truth there is to that report, but if there is, then yeah, Auburn is likely done.
  9. I always assumed they fight against the ham.
  10. First, let me begin by saying I don't think the Cubs should move from Wrigley. I think the Cubs staying in Wrigley and renovating it makes too much sense. On the other hand, I think Ricketts should stop saying that he's staying in Wrigley no matter and begin making legitimate noise that all options are on the table. It appears that the civic leaders believe that Ricketts/Cubs should pay for improvements to Wrigley without any outside help because of the Cubs profitability. I believe the position that Rickets should begin to maintain is that it doesn't make economic sense for him to pour resources into a landmark and that if he's going to invest millions into a stadium, it should be a new one that doesn't have the restrictions of Wrigley. Whether or not he believes this, it should become his mantra. He could say that if the city and state want to guarantee that Wrigley remains the home of a baseball team, then they will need to assist in its upkeep. I don't know if it would work or not, but I think right now, everyone knows he doesn't have many options.
  11. What if Ricketts decides to add more external advertising to raise revenues? It would look tacky as hell, but he could sell advertising banners to put up on the outside where they had all the player banners last season. The neighborhood would hate it and maybe it would bring enough complaints to get people to the table about helping with the renovations.
  12. Per my understanding, the only recording may be of Kenny Rogers calling another Mississippi State alumni saying he is with Cecil Newton, and Cecil is wanting to know if the 'there is going to be a deal.' You can't really prove you're with someone and are calling on behalf of someone with a voicemail. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/kenny_rogers_says_cam_newtons.html Auburn hasn't been directly implicated in any of this. I guess the worst case scenario related to what is on the table so far is that real evidence of Cecil shaking down MSU does surface, Cam is ruled ineligible, Auburn has to vacate wins associated with the 2010 season, Barrett Trotter becomes AU's qb, and things return to 'normal' next season. I'm not even sure we'll have to cross that bridge. Cam is playing football tomorrow against Georgia. edit - i guess the FBI is interviewing Bond and Rogers next Tuesday, so I would expect that we'll know more about Cam's future eligibility soon after that. I doubt they find a smoking gun that says Auburn paid Newton. In fact, there's no reason other than speculation, that Auburn did. But, if what I'm reading is correct, the soliciting of funds from Mississippi State could be enough to make Cam inelligible. With all this shitstorm, I'm pretty sure Cam leaves Auburn after this season for the NFL. The only question is how long will it take the NCAA to rule on Newton. As slowly as they move, it's likely this season will play out before any ruling is made. AU is probably hoping to finish the year with Cam and if any wins are vacated, they will still have had the benefit of letting the season play out.
  13. This was a great game.
  14. Rogers did an interview on ESPNDallas today and claims he had contact directly with Cecil Newton on Cam's behalf. Also, there are rumors that Cecil Newton was contacting many people about Cam's services. Supposedly there are text messages and recordings. I don't know what is contained in those, but it isn't looking good for Newton. From what I have heard, even if Auburn didn't pay for Newton, if he shopped himself to other schools, he could be ruled ineligible and therefore has been ineligible for the past nine games. I guess now the only question is whether the NCAA rules soon enough to impact this season or not.
  15. A blog that has almost no credibility reports that Jerry Jones has met with Nick Saban about the Cowboys job. Link I'm just going to go ahead and say it, if this happens we must unban Redflash so we can get his uncensored reaction.
  16. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5786315 SEC compliance officials knew about this last January, so AU officials had to know about it around the same time. AU has already indicated that in their due dilligence they didn't find anything to validate these claims, and they chose to play Cameron Newton this season. They had the opportunity to remedy a potential problem before the player ever stepped on the field. Short of proof, I'm not going to believe hearsay. Who are the sources in this article, btw? Regardless of whether the accusations are being made erroneously or all/some of it is true, the story further tarnishes the SEC's reputation as it pertains to athletics. Either way the story ultimately leads, it's ugly and sad. Why are MSU boosters, 'recruiters', etc. speaking to the press about this now instead of months ago? I can agree with much of what you have said. As to your last question, Cam wouldn't have been as big a story months ago. Now that Auburn is undefeated, atop the BCS, and Cam is in Heisman discussions, the story has legs.
  17. I promise to use the term frequently during my unit on research this spring.
  18. You shouldn't write an article unless you name your source? .....not exactly what I meant....it's more of an ethics question I guess. Students' academic records are protected by FERPA laws. Wouldn't the author's source have broken the law by providing such information? Should one write an article that slanders a kid when the information was obtained illegally (if true) and circumstances don't allow the accusations to be confirmed? Well the issue is with the source, he should be the one in trouble for violating the FERPA laws, not the journalist for reporting on it. That is my problem with it. Should one be able to report upon information that is illegal to share while using an unnamed source as a shield from legal consequences? ...well, my other problem with it is that I'm a fan of the team that it indirectly, negatively portrays....but that's obvious to everyone. I guess there's twp sides to the issue. If the reporter trusts his source, he is reporting what he believes to be facts. The source is breaking the law and is being protected by the reporter who doesn't name his source. In this case, it's a bad situation for Newton. The accusations cannot be proven or disproven because of confidentiality laws. It's innuendo, even if it is true. On the other hand, I'm not sure where to draw the line. Should news people not report on stuff illegally obtained? I guess that's a sketch ethics issue.
  19. Joe Morgan will do everthing in his power to get Conception in there.
  20. I'm attending my first LSU game in a long time Saturday, as the wife and I are going to watch them play ULM. I have no idea who I'm rooting for. LSU would be embarrassed with a loss, but I love my Warhawks, even though our biggest win in the last few years was at Bama. I think I'm just going to go, have a good time, and enjoy the game regardless of what happens.
  21. It's gotten really bad in Dallas. I'm not sure I could give away my remaining tickets if I wanted to. Jenkins has played horribly this year. It's hard to tell at this point where the problems are talent related or players not giving 100%. Either way, give me Patrick Peterson in the first, Marcus Cannon in the second, and Dunta Hightower in the third.
  22. For everyone who thinks Sandberg deserved the job, how many of you would be happy if we signed a HOF player who played his career for another team with only 4 years minor league managerial experience? The fact of it is, if he weren't Ryne Sandberg, no one would want a guy whose only experience was managing once at each level from A-AAA. His experience as a coach/manager is still very limited.
  23. I love that site. I think he does the mock draft each week all year. I would be thrilled if Dallas gets the players he has going to us.
  24. Mock Draft Time!
  25. i'd be embarrassed and very unhappy about it if AU did anything wrong. I understand the SEC hatred is thick on this board...but let's see how this unfolds. auburn has a history of penalties in the past. this could be interesting. I don't see much of a chance that they'd axe a very prominent program. Alabama has probably done more in its time and it's still around. At worst, they will declare Newton inelligible, forfeit some games, and ban them from a bowl.
