  1. As Pat was pointing out that "Izturis drove in a run earlier," I was subconsciously finishing his sentence with "... with his GLOVE, Ron!" I hope this lead holds, Lilly def deserves the win.
  2. Anyone think we'll see Murton now and then switch Riot and DeRosa? (in case I'm behind on this, I'm listening on gameday, no TV)
  3. "Ted Lilly coming up with the bases loaded" is going to become the most hated phrase of the season... :)
  4. Babe Izturiz to get the offense going...
  5. There's something we didn't see much of last year.
  6. Thanks to having lived away from Chicago since enlistment 8 years ago and restricting my baseball interaction to these boards, the annoyance of the White Sox has been much closer to a non-issue for me. I would have gone nuts in '05 if I had been local. Plus, every year when I would catch the Cubs in Atlanta, I never had any trouble meeting large bunches of Cubs fans.
  7. WGN programming as a whole, outside sports coverage, is a complete joke. They show crap movies, crap sitcoms, and crap series. I can't fathom the idiots that have to be behind those choices in lieu of Cubs, Bulls, and (shudder) White Sox games. How do they get anyone to watch that channel???
  8. Blue blue blue. We bleed cubby BLUE, not cubby road grey. Pinstripes should be the standard at home, and I don't care if blues are only the alt used once or twice every week or two, but they belong here. I don't understand how so many of you could dislike the blue uniform to the point of complete banishment.
  9. I'll be in class today, so I'll only be able to catch the middle third of the game on my lunch break. If gameday works, I may be able to sneak peeks otherwise. The 173-game winning streak starts today!!
  10. Big Z goes yard twice, and so does pretty much all 8 of the position players. Cubs set a baseball record by scoring 45 runs on opening day. Harang's ERA will be infinity, as he will not retire a batter before allowing 18 runs and being pulled in the first inning. GO CUBS!!
  11. One year, ironically the one with the most hope 2004, we only won 7-4 In that case: REDS: 147 CUBS: -08 http://myspace-306.vo.llnwd.net/00709/60/38/709878306_s.jpg
  12. I'm really not sure what can realistically be expected out of him in a situation like this. The guy was drawing a media circus right out of college, made the bigs after just nine minor league starts, puts up those numbers in '03, and now he can't even make the team after being around for most of ST. The desire for him to start yelling and getting mad and "showing that fire" don't really make sense, because it would just come across as a childish tantrum. Stating that he's "just an employee" means he understands his place and he has been rightfully humbled. I can't imagine I'd even show my face if I were him, and I think he's taking it well.
  13. If those numbers hold through the first few weeks of the regular season, I'm on.
  14. That is outstanding. This makes me want to start reading a local newspaper, just so I can find an excuse to plagiarize (sp) this and send it in. Hilarious!!
  15. This makes sense. Good move Tim.
  16. I'm in class right now and can't listen to the game, and can only check up periodically, so to those who are providing such detailed updates, thank you for your faithful service to Cubs nation!
  17. I'm not gonna get to see or listen to any of the game, but I'm sooooooo freaking pumped. I miss the Cubs.
  18. That's just crazy talk.
  19. I know the Cubs approached this offseason counting on getting nothing from Prior, but he's still the biggest x-factor on the team, and this news is getting me unbelieveably pumped for the season to start. I still haven't learned my lesson about optimism either.
  20. I'm definitely pulling for him in Texas. I'd also like to see him face Prior when the Cubs go down there. It's a shame that showdown wouldn't occur in Wrigley. I miss the Sammy days as well, and I think it would be great to see him succeed for another season before he's done.
  21. Sweet, thanks for the link! I've been looking around for sites that tell us more about Barrett, and I was truly disappointed when I couldn't find any mention of him here.
  22. I instinctively punched the monitor just now. And threw up. A lot.
  23. Aramis is late because he's eating babies.
  24. The fresh start for some reason always makes me optimistic. It's baseball's own New Year's resolution. We all know that 90 percent of the people who start new diets on the first of the year have fallen off of them by the first of February, and a large chunk of people who are optimistic about their teams right now are going to be disappointed and off the bandwagon no later than the start of August. This is just the time of year when everyone gets to believe that things will be different for them this year. Of course, this is also the time of year when people remember it's been a hundred years since the Cubs began their most recent run as WS champs. I hate this team.
