  1. I'm assuming that there is no more game, and that Len and Bob are having a televised discussion on the validity of the '06 Cards.
  2. Check again. That would be the team that's right on their heels in the standings - Tampa Bay. Yankees have given up 52 runs and are at a +12 differential. On that note, while Tampa Bay leads the majors in allowing 89 runs, they also lead the majors in runs scored   (The two closest teams--Toronta and Florida--are two runs behind and have played one less game, but still surprising.)
  3. That's the going rumor. The cubs.com stats page has his ERA listed as 2.65 as well. That can't be right. :)
  4. Indeed. I'd love to see Miller join the competition in trying not to be labelled the goat of the rotation. On that note, I'd like to mention how much I enjoy the fact that Marquis and his 6.20 ERA for StL last year, especially in light of the notoriously good production they get from their pitchers, has translated into sub-3 for the Cubs this year. He was the preseason favorite for whipping boy, and hopefully Miller will be on his heels soon.
  5. Well I looked at it from the standpoint that, if the Cubs were to win it this year, it would be a couple years before I started getting antsy again, so I decided that if I were 120 years old, I probably wouldn't have started worring until '11 or '12. Though in that case, the last 62 years would have been more than enough to make me drop dead from baseball alone, biological limitations aside.
  6. I think we need a "when can we officially worry about the lack of no-hitters?" thread. We've needed that since 1972. How about "When can we officially worry about the lack of World Championships?" :D :D I like the concept, but it would be a short thread. Answer: 95 years ago. The End.
  7. I hope Maddux gets a good welcome back to Wrigley from the fans, then a rude one from the Cubs.
  8. Soriano scored in the first inning... Has that happened yet this year??
  9. Here we go again with the lousy offense making him look like Cy Marquis...
  10. I don't. It's going to be cold out there. I think they are just being cautious. Same here. I'm also totally fine with them being extra cautious with him. Yea, I don't think this is the Prior brand of cautious, so I'm not terribly concerned. The outlook has always been day-to-day with him. When they resume scratching him from the lineup 3 to 5 days in advance, I'll start freaking out, but right now doesn't seem like the best panic time.
  11. I'd definitely like to see him enjoy enough success to see plenty of playing time this season. His BA is only a little behind Soriano's, so it's almost time to pay him $17mil, right?
  12. A few days late, but thanks for the vote of confidence. I heartily agree.
  13. The latest in a never ending quest for quality advertising. I've, uh, been a little surprised at some of the ads. Stumbling across this thread at 3am reminded me to click on the ads once in a while, and when I did, it navigated away from NSBB rather than popping up in a new window. How long has it been this way? I've always been partial to the popping link, personally.
  14. I can't stop laughing at this, no matter how many times I read it. Color commentary at its most colorful.
  15. Did Piniella even get ejected very often when he was with Tampa? If not, maybe he only takes it out on the umps if he thinks his players are doing well? If that's the case, maybe this pool should be changed to pick which player he kills first and when.
  16. Sammy update: S Sosa - 10G, 7/40, 2 HR 7 RBI, 1/8 BB/K, 3R, .175/.195/.325
  17. Current OBP among outfielders, total AB in parentheses: Murton: .278 (17) Soriano: .280 (47) Floyd: .300 (29) Jones: .326 (41) We all know the drawbacks of using RBIs as a meterstick. In terms of OBP, though it's close (and pathetic) among all four OF, Murton has been at the bottom of the list. He hasn't gotten anywhere near the same opportunity though. The other three have a combined OBP of .302 thru an average of 39 AB. I'll keep that in mind for when Murton reaches his 39th AB, which, at this rate, will be in the neighborhood of the first of May :x
  18. The same way they won their first day game and their first home game this year? sorry Well.... we haven't lost a night game yet this season !! Kerry Wood and Mark Prior haven't given up any hits, walks, runs or homeruns yet either. They're neck-and-neck for CYA !! Or should I say, shoulder to shoulder?
  19. yeah..... ask yer mother about this. haha, I've definitely herad the stories. I've even tried talking her into jumping, but we know how well that worked out. I have one very distinct advantage over her: it's not the early 70's anymore. Parachute design has come a long way. Topic-related comment: They were shut down by Sabathia though. We were shut down by Kyle Lohse. Kyle. Lohse. :puke: My thoughts exactly. How does this story keep repeating itself for this team, regardless of players or coaches?!
  20. Yea, I seriously hope that Ramirez and DeRosa come back soon so that getting Riot the ABs he's earned is at the expense of people that seriously need to stay out of the lineup.
  21. The same way they won their first day game and their first home game this year? sorry
  22. I just don't understand why anybody would jump out of a perfectly good airplane !!! Reasons: 1) I'm a control freak, and landing is the scariest part of flying. It's easier to trust myself to land safely under a parachute out in the open than to trust a stranger who has me trapped in a multi-ton chunk of metal that also happens to be full of jet fuel. 2) More legroom outside. 3) Better view. 4) The adrenaline rush and blast of cold, thin air to the face is GREAT for hangovers, so if you make it up to altitude and out the door without refunding breakfast, you're set to go! 5) There's no such thing as a perfectly good airplane. (Just don't tell the Air Force I said that - I'm up for promotion this year.)
  23. I'm glad I spent the day skydiving and only had to come home to a crappy box score. If I had watched the game first, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the parachute.
  24. I'm currently 11th on the list following the 1-0 loss in Lilly's gem against Cincy. There are 14 games left in April. If I'm due to start before the beginning of May (a possibility of which I have a very real fear), I quit.
