  1. So you don't believe in momentum at all. I doubt they'll score here. I'm just wondering. I think momentum only exists when runs follow a play like that on ESPN and the announcers decide it exists in order to fill the air waves with more worthless drivel. Or maybe it just exists with other teams. Definitely not on the northside.
  2. Does that qualify as an RGI (Run Gloved In)?
  3. That was short-lived. Maybe he was just getting warmed up, and now he's back to his old self again.
  4. 5, 0, 4, 1, 3, 7 ER in April '06 starts 5, 3, 6, 4 so far this April. In 3 starts and one inning, he's only 2 runs shy of 6 starts in his crappy last April.
  5. Good theory. Nice one Mcdunnough. :? I hope you're kidding He's either injured or way too superstitious. or a slow starter You're right. I didn't even realize that until I just looked it up. His career ERA in April is over a run higher than any other month. Is his career ERA in april or ANY month anywhere close to 9.50?
  6. Z has been charged with 10ER in his last 1+ IP since hitting a HR.
  7. Any chance Guzman can get to Atlanta from Iowa by the fourth inning??
  8. A 3-0 pitch following a walk is a perfect time to ground into an inning-ending DP. With the occasional exception of DLee, I'm really not in favor of the 3-0 green light.
  9. Anyone else using gameday audio get a message saying that their subscription from '06 wasn't renewed? I just bought the package at the beginning of this season, and now it looks like they're going to try to make me pay again for the '07 season, even though that's what I bought.
  10. Also, I definitely like the lineup. If KoJock and little Cezar can take the night off from being automatic outs, life could be good.
  11. Lou's philosophy regarding Ohman is that the guy needs to get more playing time so he's gonna keep handing him the ball and letting him figure it out. He's also big on going with the guys who are getting it done, which, statistically, is pretty sound in how he's approaching Murton and his playing time. I can't think of specifc examples from last season, but it seems Murton has managed to find his way on the short end of double standards since he's been up.
  12. Isn't that pretty much guaranteeing a fine or suspension? Should a major league manager be carrying out vendettas for his fanbase and openly saying he's going to instigate something with another team because a guy hit a home run and hopped? Sammy rubbed it in pretty good and it was a meaningless homer. I would think it was pretty lame if a similar thing happened to the Cubs. See, I didn't see it happen, and I haven't seen a clip. Did he just hop more than usual, or did he walk down the baseline or something? He hopped and then kind extended his arms like he was an airplane as he ran to first base. It wasn't that big of a deal but I can understand why it would upset the White Sox. Eh. That's pretty weak. Sounds like he got excited that he belted a 3 run home run after the fans were all over him. If he didn't do anything to show up the other team, there's not much justification for post game rantings. Completely agree. I'm sure he knows all about Sox fans and the fact that they've been among the most vocal supporters of all anti-sammy discussion. If someone did the same to the Cubs, yes I think it would be pretty lame too, but if we welcomed someone the same way before they did it, I would completely understand. Players in any sport LOVE to silence hostile fans on the road.
  13. Wow. I don't see the point in that either, so I guess I just don't get it.
  14. I think it's just the hope. It just doesn't make sense to me to send him down if that weren't the case considering how well he's been pitching. Not just hope anymore. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-070417cubsbits,1,6444674.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines "Guzman will move into the rotation at Iowa and likely will make two starts before the Cubs decide whether to bring him back as a starter. With an off-day on April 26, the Cubs will need their fifth starter only one more time until May 1 at Pittsburgh." The writing is on the wall, Mr. Miller. Not to bring the idea down any, but you're just quoting Paul Sullivan's speculations. If this has basis in what he has heard from a team official, he certainly didn't present it that way. I agree that the only other explanation for the move is unparalleled ignorance, but nothing would shock me with this organization. I guess I'm just saying it's still just hope and speculation.
  15. Good. I'm glad he rubbed it in. What's the point of booing an ex-cub? If Toronto came to Wrigley, does anyone think Frank Thomas would get the same negative reception that Sammy got at the Cell?
  16. Last time I saw Z pitch was April 9th, 2004. It was in Atlanta, and I don't remember if his one run allowed was over 7 innings or 8, but I remember that Hollandsworth tied it on a 2-out HR off Smoltz in the 9th, and it needed more innings than today's game did before the Cubs finally won 2-1. Z needs to be just as effective this time around, and hopefully the offense will take a little less than 26 outs to show up. Edit - I'm sure I've seen him pitch since then, but none of the Cubs games I've seen since then have been worth remembering, so I'm standing by this story.
  17. The first time I saw this clip, I automatically assumed the assailant did it in the spirit of not wanting a repeat Bartman incident, though the third Monday of the season hardly compares. My favorite part of the video clip is zooming in on the slice of pizza still sitting on the edge of the stands with cheese sprawling from it. Beautiful.
  18. Exactly. Hendry of all people should know that if 7-10 days is the initial prognosis, 15 is almost a guarantee. He may not think that Cedeno or Ohman qualify as wastes of a roster spot, but now Sori certainly does.
  19. Class ended during the 12th inning, and last time I got in the car during a Cubs game was Z's 5th inning meltdown, so I stuck around to listen and make vocab flashcards until the game was over. Within thirty seconds of Ohman's entry into the game, I came across the words for both useless and trash. Hardly a coincidence.
  20. Don't you think it should be on whoever's bright idea it was to make room on the roster for Pie while deciding that both Ohman and Cedeno needed to stay?
  21. Ron (probably inadvertantly) sounded really disgusted going over the remaining available players when he said "Who do we have left in the pen, OHMAN?!"
  22. We could split off a 30-page rant that needs to be locked already. Cubs game anyone???
