  1. I like this. Bad for Iowa (not that it matters next year) but good for the Big Ten. I like McCamey even though he's made me look like an idiot for doubting his draft stock earlier in the year before he went crazy for a handful of games. I thought Davis was going to be a stud a year ago and then he was just a guy last year. I guess it's worth going through the process but unless he's a total fool he wasn't going anywhere this summer.
  2. fine, we'll take him i wouldn't mind seeing randle play at iowa. i grew up watching acie earl and brad hopkins play at moline and i was glad i got to see them play in college and in the pros. i'll root for him if for no other reason than he's a quad city guy. Well tell Chasson that. He obviously has some legit interest in Iowa though. He kept coming last year even though Lickliter never even talked to him. And that's not an exaggeration. He said he never talked to Lick. Even though we had a top 50 recruit an hour away and he was interested enough to come a handful of times, he left it all to his LaVall. Unreal. Fran is making him priority one. He visited him twice within five days on his first recruiting missions. It's the closest school to home, in the Big Ten and the only one of his schools that offers him the opportunity to be the man from day one. Ultimately I think he ends up at Illinois or Purdue though.
  3. Saw this linked on an Iowa board: http://www.illinihq.com/chats/2010/05/03/jeremy_werner_recruiting_chat__am_monday/ Good to hear on Randle even though it's still probably a total longshot. I still can't believe they already offered and brought Uthoff in on a visit when everyone says that 2011 class is loaded in Illinois. He also wouldn't fill that need for a big man.
  4. Beyond the fact that they played so well and the power play was outstanding, I'm most pleased with the way they kept their composure tonight. Let those clowns goon it up, take the pp and go to work on a scared Luongo. Vancouver came out with their hair on fire, hitting and looking really sharp early. Then they got dumb, we got some nice bounces and the power plays were too much. Close this beyotch out on Sunday night.
  5. Haven't read the previous pages but my god what a bunch of goons. That was despicable. Or at least appallingly stupid. Honestly Canucks fans can't really like Burrows can they? If a Hawk played as idiotic as O'Brian I would be livid with him. They lost their minds and could've been popped for a couple more. I would be worried about that last goal but I'm convinced we're scoring again. Luongo is awful.
  6. Same here. I hate change anyways but I don't see the idea of these 16 team super-conferences being good in any way other than money for those few leagues.
  7. I feel like I watched a different game than bcl or Second City Hockey who was also high on Versteeg's play last night. His penalty was atrocious.
  8. That was awesome. Niemi made some really nice saves and was solid in the last 50 minutes or so. Power play was weak but penalty kill was outstanding. Hossa can't get many opportunities but I thought he played really well. Kane was quiet. By the way, what percentage of Buff's open shots end up on goal?
  9. Can someone with a better understanding of hockey strategy explain Brouwer to the first line for me? He's been bad and he looks awful so far.
  10. Buff back to defense, Brouwer on the first line and Bickell out? Burish and Eager are in and Hendry is also out.
  11. I really hate the idea of 16 team super leagues.
  12. Wow, what will Pavelski do next? He's been an absolute stud. Pavel Datsyuk is one of my favorite players in the league to watch on both ends.
  13. I'm fine with the Brust ruling. I wish he were coming to Iowa but I think it's fair when a coach leaves. Hypothetically if Iowa was a finalist for a recruit in the Big Ten and their coach left, I would be pissed if that player wanted to come to Iowa and the rule didn't allow it.
  14. I jumped on the "Mavs to the Finals" bandwagon. Good call. Then again all summer/preseason I said the Spurs were going to the Finals so I've got that going for me at least one more series.
  15. the trip was caused by the high stick though. Ehh, looked like the other way around to me. Trip first, followed by SJ player flailing like he was shot, causing the high stick. I dont have the game recorded so I cant go back and look at it...I may be blinded by homerism, but that is not how I remember it My recollection is the same as yours.
  16. Illinois offered Jared Uthoff from Cedar Rapids, IA in the '11 class today. I posted about him a couple pages back when Indiana offered. Butler has now also. The Illinois one surprises me. He's a 6'8 guy who is way too skinny to play inside but I question if he's athletic enough to guard any 3's in the Big Ten. He's kind of a skinnier, slightly less athletic version of Gordon Hayward.
  17. An Illinois fan posted the same thing on an Iowa board the other day. His reputation seems to be a lot greater than the results he's produced.
  18. And you call yourself a Crusader... I asked a question about him like two weeks back when he was rumored as a possible assistant under McCaffery at Iowa. Doesn't look like that's happening though.
  19. Leaf is the bigger bust. I really thought he was going to be a good NFL QB as did a good percentage of football people. I think more people expected Jamarcus to be a bust than to be a stud.
  20. He really must have. I was hoping the Vikings would look at him for RG but they had no interest. Neither did the Bears, neither did the vast majority of the league. I pretty much only watched the Jets in the playoffs last year and while their o-line in general was very good, I never really focused in on him enough to tell.
  21. he's being mentioned as a candidate for the coaching job. can't say i'm on board with that. Not sure I am either, but you might want to get used to the idea... Hoiberg Next ISU Head Coach He's not called "The Mayor" for nothing so he should excite the fanbase, but the lack of coaching experience isn't good, and it's gonna suck if it doesn't work out. It's like the B.J. Armstrong to Iowa stuff but worse. At least B.J. is in with WW Wes. There's upside but there's also high potential for a total bust. And that results in you complaining about one of your favorite players of all-time and wanting him fired because he's a failure.
  22. Stay away from Fran.
  23. The Mavs and Nuggets series are shocking me. The Spurs and Jazz were the two best teams in the West over the last two months of the season, so it's not completely surprising to me. Not to mention that the difference between the 2 seed and the 8 seed was what, 4 games? The Jazz series is surprising to me because of their injuries which I thought would give the series to the Nuggets.
  24. I don't see why thats necessary in addition to drafting LeFevour. They're obviously displeased with Hanie and Basanez. I don't know about that. They could conceivably sign a back up veteran, still keep Hanie, have 3 QBs on the roster, and keep LeFevour around on the practice squad. I think I'd prefer to have 2 QBs again, so it comes down to Hanie vs other veteran (I've heard them linked the McCown) as the backup, with LeFevour on the Practice Squad. If LeFevour shows anything he'll be snatched up by someone else when the Bears try to sneak him to the practice squad. The Vikings drafted Tyler Thigpen in the 7th round a few years ago, he had a decent camp, they tried to put him on the practice squad and the Chiefs signed him so he could start games for them in a year.
  25. WTF? Who takes a step down like that on his own choice? He was a dead man walking next year. A lot of people thought he may have been fired after his assistant Robinson left for Houston and Chris Colvin transferred (on top of losing almost every other good player) but his buyout was too big. It's very similar to Alford leaving for New Mexico. You think you may be fired in a year so if you can get out of town with a long term deal and land softly at a good mid-major, you take it. ISU has to be thrilled and it's great for Greg. Now Fran can get to work on Wes Staten.
