  1. am i making too much of it, or was it weak for him to say that? kinda sounds like he's making excuses for a goal that is all on him and definitely not carle. that shot just can't go in under any circumstances in a stanley cup game. that was worse than any of his 5 in game 1. Agree. Whether he was able to walk in or not it's still a Ben Eager wrist shot from 40 feet with no traffic or screens. Stop the puck or pull yourself. You give up a goal like that you shouldn't say a word about the turnover.
  2. Tough for me to leave Bolland off. 1 goal, 1 assist, +3, 4 shots, played over 20 minutes and was better (though still 50%) with faceoffs. Incredible that in a game with 11 goals scored, the top line for each team was held without a point and were a combined -16!
  3. Out of curiosity, who's the player? Ray Allen and Fisher. Though I guess it wasn't completely true because I still love me some Sheed due to his Pistons contributions. I don't really hate Artest/Odom or Rondo either. I guess there are just so many players from each team I hate that it overshadows all of that.
  4. In the same vein of Jesus Havlat Christ, tonight was time to refer to him as Jesus Marian(d) Hossa.
  5. Well this sucks but I guess the good news is that the Stanley Cup should get higher ratings for game 2. I wish there was more than one player I liked from either the Celtics or the Lakers.
  6. Yes but as someone said on the Second City roundtable, the Flyers aren't going to roll over at any point in the series. They're mentally (and physically I guess) tougher than any of the previous opponents. They'll keep coming. well i didn't really mean it that way. philly definitely will keep ocming. i'm just saying that we played about as bad as we could have, but still won. You're right. I guess I was just thinking that allthough the Hawks had a ton of breakdowns the Flyers had the skill to take advantage. Briere missed the tying goal by about 4 inches with 7 minutes left. Your point remains though. Even out the penalties, have the D's play the way they did last series along with the 1st line showing up and it's not a one goal game.
  7. Yes but as someone said on the Second City roundtable, the Flyers aren't going to roll over at any point in the series. They're mentally (and physically I guess) tougher than any of the previous opponents. They'll keep coming. When Ladd is healthy I would put him on the 4th line in place of Eager. Huge for Kopecky to step up the way he did. Same way Brouwer did after the layoff.
  8. Hossa seemed like the only guy who brought it on both ends tonight. He's my favorite player. [expletive] the meatheads ragging on him for not scoring goals. Thank God Leighton sucked tonight. D was terrible, ton of breakdowns, didn't clear the rebounds, the first line was a TOTAL no-show and yet we won. The Flyers are slower but they're skilled and will make the Hawks pay if they continue to have breakdowns. Of course the penalty advantage was huge though.
  9. Nate Robinson just made the Celtics more hateable than the Lakers which I didn't expect after last night's game. Someone punch him in the balls.
  10. I wonder what jaydee said when KG chopped/punched Howard's arm away twice in a row then whined about the call.
  11. For [expletive]'s sake Vince, do something. You hear the criticism. Stand up for yourself. Don't shrink for once in your life. Stan is awesome.
  12. True. However Ali is UNI's best shooter and was hot. UNI was turning the ball over nearly every possession prior to that. Artest is basically the 5th option on the floor for the Lakers and has shot 24% from 3 in the playoffs.
  13. You could get on him for not putting a body on Artest but that's a shot that came up 3 feet short. That was sickening.
  14. He should have gotten a body on Artest but in fairness that's a shot that came up 3 feet short and he just got out-muscled at the end.
  15. I dunno...Dan Bernstein and Dan Mcneil, at the very least, are big hockey fans. I'm sure there are some guys that are uncomfortable with the hockey discussion...I don't listen to ESPN 1000 down here because it's got a weaker signal than The Score...but there are a few that actually do know what they're talking about. It's just that I think these guys typically are directed to talk about other sports because hockey doesn't draw listeners...or at least it didn't used to. Bernstein is not a big hockey fan. He doesn't really watch other hockey besides the Blackhawks and didn't watch them until the last couple of years. He poses questions for the die-hard hockey fans because he's a casual fan.
  16. I'm guessing it's Gorz especially after getting knocked out in his last start and tonight.
  17. Isaac Bruce had career highs in catches (119), yards (1,781) and TD's (13) his second year in the league. He followed that up with 1,338 yards in his third year and averaged 16 yards per reception. He was then banged up for the next two years and only played 17 total games before the Martz/Warner years. His point still holds in some cases though. There are guys who just work within a certain system. You could see a decent-but-not-great guy on the Bears put up big numbers for a year or two if everything clicks. Sustaining it for many years is likely more the realm of the truly great. Of course. The Bears WR's will put up good numbers because of the amount of targets they get and the fact that Martz knows the passing game. They're talented enough to put up really nice stats in that offense with a super talented QB. His Lions WR's compiled numbers because of that, although they weren't overly efficient and took a ton of sacks. I'm just saying Bruce and Holt were great talents who were picked 6 and 33 and Bruce had his best season before that. Having them combined with hall of famers at LT and RB along with his development of Warner into a hall of famer was what obviously made that offense.

  19. True. A lot of that disparity belongs to the play in net. Nabokov wasn't bad but Niemi stole one and you could make an argument for two games. I could never get a feel for what San Jose was trying to do defensively. They never really forechecked and only went to a semi-trap for brief periods. Especially when the Hawks had their 4th line out there with Sopel/Hendry, the Sharks should have had that second line fore checking like mad. Or at least that's what I felt with my elementary understanding of hockey strategy .
  20. Worst NBA playoff season ever. The Finals should at least be a good matchup but totally hating both teams makes it less desirable.
  21. Castro's route took him about 12 feet away from the ball. That's why you practice wrong-way turns, Starlin.
  22. Side note, the UC sounded a lot louder on the TSN highlights than it did on Versus.
  23. It's not really weird. He would have been about the sixth or seventh guard on the depth chart. It's not weird that a guy who is less than 12 months from graduation and gave up basketball a year ago to focus on education is transferring schools? Oh man, he's pry in big trouble if his family has to pay for an extra year of school or two. Come on he's rich beyond his wildest dreams and has a career at Nike waiting for him whenever he decides to take it. Of course financially there's no concern. It's just a bit strange that a kid who decided to give up basketball a year ago but wanted to stay in school at Illinois is now deciding he wants to transfer to play and finish school elsewhere when he has only one year left. I'm not trying to act like it's something fishy and 21 year old kids tend to change their minds. Maybe he just really wants more playing time before he hangs it up. Surprising is probably a better term than weird or strange.
  24. Yeah I didn't think they were pulling that one out going to OT. [expletive] Niemi. You could legitimately say he's stolen 2/3 games so far although I think the first game was a little stronger. Bolland takes 3 penalties including a couple of bad ones yet scores on a breakaway and makes a great pass for the game winner. Toews was a man again, what a pass to Sharp. Kane can be so frustrating sometimes but his postgame interview on CSN made up for it. Hossa is easily one of my favorite players and he's making some outstanding plays on the puck but my god he's gotta put that puck in the net when he's on the doorstep. I'm hoping he just needs to break the seal, get some confidence and then he'll put in a few more.
