  1. Phil's putting will probably level out somewhere between what he did Thursday and Friday. Still he's striking it well enough and his approach is such that I think he's the man to beat heading into the weekend.
  2. In safely at +4 and 7 strokes back.
  3. Am I the only one who gets tired of the discussions about what someone's legacy is while they still have a few years left? Of course everywhere you turn you hear the "what is Kobe's legacy?" talks but last night at halftime after discussing that, Stu had to ask "what is the legacy of the big 3 if they win?" Can we just get to the end of the game if not closer to the end of their careers before we have these grand "legacy" arguments?
  4. By scoring 3 points in a span of more than 6 minutes to end the 3rd and begin the 4th. In fact the Lakers had more offensive boards (5) than the Celtics had points (3) in that stretch so the Celts only had about 12 possessions.
  5. Stuart Scott is intolerable.
  6. What a lousy game 7. I guess it had intensity but yikes. Boston couldn't even get a good look in the last 15 minutes until they hit those 3's late. Except for when Allen missed a virtually uncontested layup. Kobe should not win MVP.
  7. I see a difference. CU was terrible and then had a tremendous 7 years before returning to their more natural state. Iowa has been pretty consistent over 30 years. I'm pretty sure they have the third best record in the Big Ten since Hayden Fry arrived in '79. They don't have the status CU had in their run but 4 top 8 national finishes in 8 years isn't too far off. I think the Big Ten is less at risk to go down than the Big 12 North schools were. I think it's a little more stable with longer track records. KSU and Wisconsin were very similar historically but Wisconsin has been able to survive their legendary coach's departure while KSU went down and is still a question mark.
  8. Saw this Buzz Williams video linked on another board. There's some bs but he's a little different than I thought and he can sell a room. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ua_hhOO8lE&feature=youtube_gdata
  9. It was, but if Iowa and Iowa State can't play each other every year, what's the point? That rivalry could have been HUGE. Now they'll never play...
  10. The visual of Pebble will offset the audio of Johnny Miller. At least somewhat. I picked Phil to win The Masters and I'm more confident he'll win this weekend. Sounds like dry, windy and difficult conditions. The players were having a hard time keeping it on many of the greens and expectations are that it will continue to get firmer through Sunday.
  11. It was clearly a bad idea but their situation is fundamentally different from Chicago's as you hinted at. They knew they weren't going to get any of the big fish this year because everyone has cap space and none of the studs were going to choose Detroit over Chicago/NY/Miami/LA, etc. The problem was the contracts he gave to them. Joe was trying to re-create his early 2000's success. That's tough to do with no big man and no true point. Everyone being hurt didn't help this year either.
  12. As jersey pointed out it's been quite a while since Wisconsin sucked for long stretches of time. Iowa hasn't sucked for long stretches of time since Hayden arrived. In the last 30 years Iowa has two 3-year stretches where they were .500 (one under Fry, one under Ferentz) and one 3-year stretch where they sucked (Hayden's last year, Kirk's first two). And that was the time where Hayden stayed on too long and left things bare. 5 losing seasons spread out over 30 years compared to 15 top 3 finishes and 19 times in the top 4 of the Big Ten. 4 of the last 8 years they've finished ranked in the top 8 in the nation. They're not going back to sucking for a long stretch under Ferentz which should be a while.
  13. The amount of ass those guys have to be getting is just obscene.
  14. I know for a fact that A LOT of Aggie fans are sick to their stomach at their fave schools dependence of Texas. The ones I know were screaming to go to the SEC, but apparently the TAM leadership didn't listen what the fans wanted, but what their pockets wants. As for the Big 1+11-2 Conference, 5 years is highly unlikely. I'd give them half that time, before other schools in the conference have buyer's remorse and jump ship. like who? OU, aTm, and UT have no reason. They're making money hand over fist, and every other school is willing to smile and take it. Outside of Mizzou, no one else has any options to go. We've seen pretty clearly that no one is knocking down any doors to grab KSU, ISU, KU, or Baylor. Tech and Okie Lite are only worth a crap if they tag along w their big brothers. The conference will be fine as long as the big 3 are happy with their dough. Big three? There is not a big three. There are 2 teams in the big 12, OU and Texas. To put A&M on their level is hilarious. A&M sucks at football, basketball, and baseball. The only sport going on right now is baseball; OU is in the World Series, Texas made it to qualifying but lost to TCU, and A&M didn't even make it to qualifying and barely played .500 in the conference. At least Texas Tech had one good football season before OU put that down, A&M has always been worthless. If they suck at basketball right now then what is OU? The last 5 years they've at least made it to the second round of the NCAA's while OU has done that twice with two terrible seasons mixed in. And they cheated to get 13 wins this year. Though I doubt that Capel cheated as much as your previous coach who is barred from the game. Well done. They have not always been worthless. From the mid 80's to the late 90's they were a top 20 program. ETA: From '85-2000 they finished in the top 10 five times, from 10-20 five more times and from 20-25 three times. They've still got the tradition, resources and budget to get back there, they just need the right coach.
  15. I'm not the guy who gets into race-baiting arguments, but I think it would be different if Kane weren't a blonde kid from Buffalo. If a black NBA/NFL player had the cab incident, was celebrating the cup mostly with his posse away from the team, had his shady cousin around the entire time and made some of his comments, average Chicago fan would have a completely different reaction.
  16. Boers and Bernstein were talking about this yesterday. There's nothing wrong with partying and having fun right now but it sounds like some people are a little concerned. He could probably do without the cab driver and shirtless jokes also.
  17. So...basically Texas could decide next week to leave after all? With each new leak about the new Big 12, Beebe comes off a bigger buffoon. This is awesome. I don't understand how anyone agreed to this. Truly baffling. Well 7 of them had no options if Texas wanted to stay. This was the best they could do if they didn't want to risk going to the MWC or CUSA. Texas and OU agreed to it because they have an even bigger advantage financially and basically have one game in October to get to the BCS. No championship game also makes it more likely to get 2 BCS teams. Plus they can take off in a year if they want. A&M is the only one I'm not sure about if they had the offer from the SEC.
  18. Tell me you're not serious about those networks. Yeah, when the Big 12 lost their 3rd best and most valuable program as well as another big market, as well as at least one game every weekend as well as their most profitable day all year, that screams "more profitable than before" to me. UT is running your league even more than before. It's just Tina coming back to Ike because he gave her a bigger ring after he slapped her and bought himself a new car.
  19. big surprise. It's over, at least for now. A few years from now, maybe it rears it's head again, but for now, it's a done deal. Maybe, but it might not wait a few years either. Here's CFN's take: http://cfn.scout.com/2/977369.html
  20. I can't understand the hate for any of those people. Rivers I'll give you. Rondo I've got no problem with since I'm not a Bulls fan. But you can't understand it with Pierce or KG? Come on.
  21. It would have been funny if A&M would've said "go to hell" after all of this and still left for the SEC. Overall I'm kind of glad though. I warmed to the idea of 4 super-leagues a little bit but hated it early on. I like the Big Ten staying at 12 at least for the near term. I just have no idea how the Big 12 got this tv contract. Outside of UT, OU and your father's A&M and what do you have? Half the league is ISU, KU, KSU, Baylor and TTU. They lost their 3rd most prominent program, a huge metro area and also have two fewer teams equaling one less conference game every week. Unless ESPN was really, really desperate to keep Fox from landing the super Pac-16, I don't see the logic.
  22. Waiting for tadow to tell us that BYU/Air Force would be stronger than CU/Nebraska.
  23. My understanding is that ESPN wants the Big 12 to stay alive because they were afraid of a huge Fox deal with a 16-team Pac 10/Big 12.
  24. Because it's kind of like an NBA vs. NFL thing. College basketball just isn't very big nationally until March.
  25. Exactly. They can have a title game now but they downgraded to get there. Not great for the MWC either if they just end up with a Utah/Boise swap.
