  1. The way it works. He's going to birdie 18 here and be extremely happy at 6 under. Pulled the birdie putt left to finish at -5.
  2. First real miss of the day. Terrible tee shot on 17 but great recovery and then lag putt which would have made it a great par. Rory was just on point with everything. Should have made his putt on 17 for 62. Still going to be lots of low scores today.
  3. Up a couple hours early for my favorite golf tournament of the year and John Daly is playing like it's 1995. -7 through 14 and has missed some opportunities on the last few holes. Scoring conditions are pretty easy this morning. Cool and misty with soft, slow greens and not a lot of wind. Tiger is off to a decent start (-2 through 7) and I like his chances better this week than the previous two majors. He'll be able to hit driver without penalty on most holes even though he's gone iron off the tee on a handful of par 4's this morning.
  4. Sorry about the word nobody. I'm sure one out of every 500 kids may have looked at it once. The number may have grown for kids of the 2000s, with all the information about stats readily available to everybody. But the vast, vast, vast majority of kids never looked at a baseball card and subtracted AVG from SLG to determine which players were power hitters. Again, because I feel the need to say this one more time... I never did that to determine anything. I simply noticed the correlation. The thing I took issue with was hawkeyecub calling me a liar. For something so plausible (even if somewhat rare), I don't take kindly to accusations. You suggested I didn't understand basic math at a young age. I don't take kindly to accusations. That is extremely offensive. You're just being a jerk to be a jerk. God, please deliver unto me imb! I think I deserve a better nemesis than this. Look at your reactions in this thread. You are not ready for a nemesis.

  6. Does it really matter before the season begins? It's much easier to have discussion in one thread just like the Blackhawks/NHL.
  7. If they were in a 3rd party city, yes...it would be completely different. If he was 30, not 25 and wanted to win it would be completely different. If Wade and Bosh were not top 10 players in the league it would be different. So basically LeBron is a villain for not being arrogant enough to not want all the credit by being the undisputed leader. It's not like him, Wade, and Bosh are going to change what they do on the basketball court just because they are in Miami rather than some other city. It's only who the public gives credit to that will change. So LeBron's legacy is diminished, but do we really want individual players making decisions about what will be best for their legacy? I don't think it's about making the decision solely for the sake of your legacy. When you're the most freakish, naturally physically talented player of all time, you should not think you have to go with a top 4 player in the league and an All-Star big man in order to win a title. It's weak. If you want to make that move, you automatically erase yourself from "greatest of all-time" discussion. You're gone immediately from that and have been since Thursday. You care more about being a [expletive] "global icon", please.
  8. You know some pretty smart 12 year olds who are talking about ISoP I can distinctly remember sitting in my attic with cards laid out and and subtracting AVG from SLG. The best of these would be my "Sluggers" when arranging my cards into batting orders. I had no idea it had a name, it just seemed like something worth doing. I'd also subtract AVG from OBP to "see who walked alot" amongst those with decent averages. EDIT: This may have been later. Thinking back, I imagine lots of kids did very similar things. I stand corrected if Im really in the minority with this. When I was that young my brain didn't comprehend stats beyond wins, losses homeruns, rbi's and averages You're not, you're just the one being honest.
  9. WTF? Tell me that's not Chris Paul wearing capri's and lime green shoes.
  10. But if he stayed with Cleveland and he never won a championship, wouldn't his fame take a good hit? That's why Chicago was the perfect situation - he could have won and been the man. In Miami I don't see him doing both. He's 25. If he were 30+ and made this move to grab a title, I think everyone would understand. Essentially throwing in the towel right now and saying "I'm not good enough to be the alpha dog, elevate the guys around me and lead a team that's already won 127 games the last two years to a title." All the people who said he didn't have it in him to be a killer or a closer? Yeah he's trying to prove you right.
  11. I love Scully. Maybe that would change if I heard him more than 10 times a year.
  12. I don't know if I would agree with that. Though I am pulling for all three of them to need microfracture surgeries by November. Bosh is the one who is really annoying me now. You're not that good. You don't play defense, you've never really been a key in a meaningful game and you were a dick to Toronto. Plus your eyes are set really far apart and your head has an odd shape. Depending on the day I think you either look like a half-alien or just some really, really dumb guy. Stan Van Gundy nailed it.
  13. That Mike Beasley Sr. tweet is too much. I love how this Delonte West situation went from being a really weird, seemingly untrue rumor to fact so quickly. I don't know if it's possible to get tired of jokes making fun of batspit crazy Delonte West with LBJ's mom.
  14. ESPN analyst, former NFL exec (and Denny's son) Jeremy Green was arrested for kiddie porn and coke in a Connecticut hotel. Didn't see that one coming.
  15. Are you kidding me, SSR? Gimme a break. I didn't say Rose was better, all I said was Rose wasn't a "worse point guard." If you are talking about "worse point guard" I assume you are talking about guys like Toney Douglas, Baron Davis, Andre Miller, Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson, etc. Derrick is a step behing Deron, just like Deron is a step behind Chris Paul, but Derrick has the talent to at least reach Deron Williams status, if not surpass it. What the hell are you talking about? Rose is worse than Williams so yes he is a "worse point guard". Toney Douglas and Rondo on the same list?
  16. I don't know what to think about that. AI2 is talented, but he can't shoot either. A backcourt of he and Rose really leaves a lot to be desired in reguards to perimeter shooting. And Deng at the 3. You have 5 guys on the floor whose have mid-range ability at best. EDIT: I missed that Deng would be leaving. I don't know if that's much of a move either though. Korver is exactly the kind of guy they needed, I just don't think he's good enough to be their primary 2.
  17. So the Bulls are trying to recreate Utah with a worse point guard? That'll end well. I was calling them the poor man's Eastern Conference version of the Jazz like 20 something pages ago and then they do this. I don't know if I like him as a starter there at the 2, but it's a pretty good deal.
  18. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-bears-biggs-0709,0,352900.story The organization of that seems funny to me. "This system picked the Bears to go to the Super Bowl last year but they didn't come close to the playoffs and it undervalued the Packers and VIkings. Well this year while some people are picking the Bears 3rd in the division, this system picks them to be less than a half win worse than the Packers and less than a half win better than the Vikings. So yeah, there's that."
  19. Simmons was all over that yesterday. This is the scene of last night's mayhem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H76DwHgOwpA
  20. I'm thinking about adopting the Bulls as my team. It's either the Bulls or the Thunder. The Thunder are incredibly easy to like on almost every level. The fact that they don't have any history in their current city makes it easy for a bandwagon jumper also. I'm stuck with the Pistons in the regular season but like to watch the Thunder if they're on national tv and of course they're my go-to in the playoffs.
  21. Baring injury it's impossible for them not to win multiple championships. It's possible. Next year it's very likely that they aren't ready to deal with the Lakers and it's possible that the Magic or Celtics knock them out because of limited depth and learning to adjust. It's also very likely there's a lockout in '11-'12. Then by the time they come back in '12-'13 Wade will be 31. He's not going to age well and will probably begin his decline around that season. WARP projects James worth 14.1 wins this year, Wade worth 14.5 and Bosh worth 10.2. But then in '12-'13 James is worth 15.5 while Wade is worth 9.3 and Bosh only 6.8. I'm not completely sold on those numbers but Wade will decline fairly hard at the end of the deal. Maybe by that point the Magic are able to put more talent around Howard or the Thunder are able to rise up to that level. The problem is they'll probably have the Wolves lottery pick next year and then will be able to use the MLE on average-above average free agents every year.
  22. I used to like him and always defended him in arguments vs. Kobe. The left handed free throw, his play after that in the Celtics series and some of the things he said made me wonder. This whole circus makes me really not like him and it seems to be pretty common. I don't really have a reason to dislike Wade that much although leading the Bulls on is kind of shitty. I think Bosh's personality is a lure for these guys, they all seem to love him. He is getting pumped up more than he should be though.
  23. Yeah that sucks that the Heat will get a lottery pick but it at least makes a little more sense that the #2 pick from 2 years ago is worth something. The Knicks sent Isiah Thomas to Akron last night to give a last minute pitch on their behalf. How is that a good idea?
  24. PUT HIM ON "LIVE" TV WITH AN INTERVIEW NOW! THE "IRON" IS HOT!
