  1. I'd grab Iowa St, Missouri, and Kansas. Iowa vs Iowa State gives you a natural rivalry game every year, and so does preserving Kansas and Missouri. Then I'd go East: Michigan Michigan State Indiana Purdue Northwestern Penn State Ohio State West: Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa Nebraska Missouri Kansas Iowa State Notre Dame isn't going to give up their sweet gig, and Missouri, K-state, and I-State make a hell of a lot more sense than Texas does. Why the hell should the Big 10 care about preserving Big 8/Big 12 rivalries? Adding Iowa State makes about as much sense as the Pac 10 adding Baylor. Saying Iowa state makes a hell of a lot more sense than Texas does is so absurd I can't even begin to find words.
  2. I've been wondering about how ugly it would be if they just grabbed Nebraska. What a complete dud. Not as bad as just grabbing Missouri, but not the least bit impressive. I would like that better than grabbing Maryland and Rutgers. I think my ideal scenario now would be to add Notre Dame and Missouri and stop at 14.
  3. I imagine that if I were a Red Wings fan I would feel the same way about Patrick Kane that I do about Ryan Braun.
  4. Second City Hockey has the team photo with the cup on the front page. The caption underneath? "I only wish Kim Johnsson was alive to see this..." LOL
  5. Agree. He was a monster physically and without a doubt the best defensively in the postseason. He and Sharp are the two guys who I think have kind of been undervalued in the postseason. And of course Hossa but I think enough media people got on his bandwagon to change that.
  6. Too bad Tallon isn't part of this or doesn't get his name on the Cup. Dan Boyle is a putz.
  7. I think that's the biggest one. Would be fun in a week or so to randomly read a few pages in this thread from March.
  8. My Dad was 8 in 1961 and he's been there all along. The Hawks were good but not quite there my whole life until 1997 when the wheels came off. It's been a rough go, but it's all good now. Yeah it's kind of a weird feeling for me. Not nearly as intense as it would be with the Vikings or Cubs because I've only followed the Hawks since '07-'08 and only started watching every game mid-season. A ton of fun but also have kind of the guilty feel because the investment wasn't there. The peeps who have been there have to feel so rewarded but amazed that this came so quickly since the Kane/Toews era began.
  9. Can't imagine how this feels for the longtime die-hard fans who have been through not just rough years but almost total apathy during some of Bill's years. The Flyers have some marbles. You always hate a team in a long, important playoff series but that's a tough talented team.
  10. Seriously, it's all downhill from here. Unreal. Though I would be happier with him if he won the best forward and silver medal back in February. I loved seeing Q's interview. Totally ecstatic by his standards.
  11. Come on, you and CubsBears29 are the same guy. Oh and I told all you bastages to chill out after game 4.
  12. Holy Hell so strange. From the minute they tied it I was envisioning Doc's call of the game winner and then it ends in maybe the strangest way ever for an OT Cup winner. Unreal. I love how the post-game interviews showed how polar-opposite Kane and Toews are again. Great move he made to get that shot off. Tough angle, great shot.
  13. If it happens, one of those guys in the Indianhead is about to become immortal. Let it be Hossa. Or Toews. Or Sharp. Or Keith. Or Buff. Or Kane. Or.... Seriously I want it to be Hossa though. Not just because of the "curse" nonsense, he's just been so undervalued by the casual fan and taken unwarranted criticism.
  14. On that goal they had Toews forechecking and four guys across the blue line. Was just too easy for them to get the puck into the zone, which allowed for the crazy bounce they got. Agreed. I didn't expect us to play like that but it's hard to guard against. I felt like it was only a matter of time before they tied it up in the 3rd. Just thankful Niemi was able to save the winner. To quote a slogan from my last (and only) team to win a championship, "If it ain't rough it ain't right".
  15. It's been said already but my God, the Hossa penalty was just unconscionable. Sharpie is making a bid for Conn Smythe. He and Hossa have arguably been our most consistent forwards in the playoffs. Buff's goal probably gets him in the mix if he adds another one in the 3rd. Yeah I know we haven't won but [expletive] it I'm talking Conn Smythe, Just stay out of the box. They're going to be looking for a call here, play smart.
  16. Played well, controlled the play again but took a couple terrible penalties. For those saying the NHL wants game 7, the second Pronger penalty that led to our goal was weak.
  17. Considering Philly has only 1 SOG in 3 PPs - and unfortunately that one shot contributed to their goal - but I'd say 1 SOG in 4.5 to 5 minutes of PP time for the Flyers is not "atrocious PKing". perfect example of why SOG doesn't tell you anything So you'd be alright with it being 3-1 Philly, as long as the 'Hawks looked better on the penalty kill, IYO? I guess I just fail to see how 1 SOG in 5 minutes of PP time - that was only netted on the rebound by a surprised Hartnell that was sitting in front of the crease- makes a person so unhappy about Chicago's defensive efforts during PHI's power plays. Granted, my hockey knowledge is lacking, but I thought the first two PK opps by the Blackhawks were very good. Not perfect by any means, but no shots in 4 minutes of PP time is doing OK. Them missing the net or not making the right pass does not mean the Hawks PK was great. They had time and space and had opportunities. The PK has been poor all series.
  18. Nebraska will be kind of cool for football. I grew up near there and hated them with a passion for years so that's good. I'm still kind of surprised at how interested the Big Ten was in them though. Really all they add is tradition in football. Now just add Notre Dame and Missouri and call it a day. West- Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Notre Dame. East- MSU, Michigan, OSU, Northwestern, PSU, Purdue, IU. I hate the idea of Maryland and/or Rutgers. Yuck.
  19. i'm 100% against this for multiple reasons. so [expletive] stupid, and pretty embarrassing to the city Meh, why be so serious, it's sports and they were just having fun with it. They even said they would like Pronger if he was on the Hawks. Because beyond being juvenile it just doesn't make any sense. Looks like Tarzan skates like Jane? No, not really. We're going to give him a female name and put him in a pink skirt because of one bad game where he got hit hard? He's still one of the best players on the ice along with being the most physical and playing the most minutes. It would be like a Minneapolis or Green Bay paper doing the same thing with Brianne Urlacher. Or puting Adrian Peterson in a skirt. Or Erin Rodgers. It doesn't take any creativity, it's pandering to the lowest common denominator but most of all, it just doesn't make any sense.
  20. It's great that he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. That's a great strength. However, even if for some reason this joker was #1 overall on your draft board, if everyone else has him rated as low as he was, you're a freakin' moron if you take him with your #1 overall pick. That should have waited until at LEAST the 2nd round, if not the 3rd. With as loaded as this draft is, you could have still gotten two really good talents before Simpson. You have no idea where everyone else had him rated. None. All it takes is one team to have him ranked in the next 49 picks and the top guy you had on your board at 16 is gone. I must say I'm shocked that you would rant about this and call him "a freakin' moron". And why are you saying this draft was loaded? You have no idea.
  21. Agree, very good post. I laugh at the outrage though. 90% of the people in here had no idea who the vast majority of these guys were until they popped in this thread. Only a handful of people here have seen any of these guys play enough to have any kind of evaluation. Statistically it's tough to take much from a good portion of the talent base. It's a process that is extremely subjective and reliant on scouting. Add on to that the volatile percentage of 1st round picks to even stick and have an impact in the majors and it's hard for me to get wound up about it. Certainly Perfect Game (whom I've worked with), BA, and all of the scouting services have a value and are a great resource. But Wilkin has a good enough track record that I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. If he feels that strongly about a guy, take him.
  22. That 5th goal was such a thing of beauty. Sharp has the puck with 4:21 left and all 5 guys touch the puck until it goes in with 4:17 left.
