I have to wonder how all of these reports are coming out. They have a private company making calls trying to gauge interest in the position. Nobody is getting offered an interview (let alone the job) if there is not mutual interest. Plus, I would hope like hell that they wouldn't have interest in Marshall to begin with. What I think happened is that the search committee contacted everyone Iowa may be interested in. They talk to the coach or the agent and say something like "Hey would you be interested in discussing the Iowa job for somewhere in the neighborhood of $___ million?" The coach then says yes or no. If they say yes, the search firm passes it on to Barta and they decide who they want to interview. At least that's what people who know how these things work (reporters, coaches, people in the AD) say. Supposedly the number they threw out to Marshall was $1.2M which is what they paid Lickliter. He's currently making around $1M at Wichita and returns most of his team so he said he wasn't interested. I'm pretty sure they can go over $2M for the right guy, I just don't know if they can find him. At this point I'd be happy with Barbee. The way things are going I might rather have Lavin, Chris Collins or Steve Forbes than some guy like Jim Boylen.
