  1. No, marc maggard is a joke. Doesn't mean he's wrong, but he's not very credible. Elaborate, I had never heard about about him until today. He's all over the Iowa board pimping Steve Forbes for the job. He, along with an Indiana AAU coach rave about Forbes' recruiting and say he would have multiple top 100 kids to Iowa within a year. I think I'd rather have Forbes than guys like Brownell or Boylen. Though I think Gregory would be a really good choice.
  2. how are they going to do it? i'm pretty sure there still aren't lights on the top of michigan stadium. They bring in temporary lighting. Iowa has done it many times in recent years.
  3. Come on Illinois. I want every possible candidate at Iowa still alive in the postseason to lose ASAP so they hire someone and I can get on with my life.
  4. He was my favorite mid-major. I was always kind of skeptical about Iowa hiring a Calipari disciple though.
  5. I have to wonder how all of these reports are coming out. They have a private company making calls trying to gauge interest in the position. Nobody is getting offered an interview (let alone the job) if there is not mutual interest. Plus, I would hope like hell that they wouldn't have interest in Marshall to begin with. What I think happened is that the search committee contacted everyone Iowa may be interested in. They talk to the coach or the agent and say something like "Hey would you be interested in discussing the Iowa job for somewhere in the neighborhood of $___ million?" The coach then says yes or no. If they say yes, the search firm passes it on to Barta and they decide who they want to interview. At least that's what people who know how these things work (reporters, coaches, people in the AD) say. Supposedly the number they threw out to Marshall was $1.2M which is what they paid Lickliter. He's currently making around $1M at Wichita and returns most of his team so he said he wasn't interested. I'm pretty sure they can go over $2M for the right guy, I just don't know if they can find him. At this point I'd be happy with Barbee. The way things are going I might rather have Lavin, Chris Collins or Steve Forbes than some guy like Jim Boylen.
  6. Well I guess I'll be watching because Brian Gregory, the coach of Dayton is supposedly in the mix for the Iowa job.
  7. UTEP people saying Tony Barbee interviewed with Iowa in Atlanta today. Other media reports had him interviewing with Auburn today also.
  8. Barta is in Atlanta apparently meeting with up to 4 candidates who are done with their season. Jim Boylen from Utah, Fran McCafferey from Siena are two that are reportedly there to see him. Paul Hewitt is another guy who was rumored to have met with them but it looks like he's going to St. John's. I wouldn't mind McCafferey all that much but it sounds like DePaul and Seton Hall may pay him big. Some rumors that Brian Gregory from Dayton and Gregg Marshall may have turned down a chance to interview for the preliminary price passed on by the search committee. I would rather take more risk but hope for higher upside and go with a top recruiter at a high-major than an average mid-major coach with average recruiting.
  9. Really thought about "that guy" but going in a different direction. Has to be some kind of record, we'll have 3 Yellow Jackets drafted in a row. The Vikings select S Morgan Burnett from Georgia Tech.
  10. Now the Iowa talk seems to be shifting to more underwhelming candidates. I fully expect to be letdown and I did not have outrageous expectations like some.
  11. Did you have Villanova? I only got 7/16 and have 4 of my Elite 8 (lost Kansas, BYU, Georgetown and Wisconsin) teams still alive. The worst I can remember doing in years. Fortunately most people in my pools had Kansas winning it all so if I can ride Duke to the finals and get WVU and Syracuse to the Final 4 I may have a shot. Go Tennesee, Cornell and Xavier. I missed on Kansas, Wisconsin and Butler (I had UTEP). I still think Wisconsin is better than they showed this weekend (heck, Kansas too for that matter). Oh, so you had Wisconsin in the final.

  13. There are few things in the tournament as annoying as Jim Spanarkel saying "just then" 100 times during each game he does.
  14. I say it every year and it never changes. I will never understand it.
  15. UNI was a blocked field goal (or two) away from the biggest upset in D1 football and basketball in the same season. South Carolina over Kentucky was a bigger upset Impact
  16. The only real negative to the UNI game is that Iowa fans everywhere will now want Jake to be hired at Iowa. Even though he and Lickliter are practically the same guy.
  17. False. Lickliter wasn't here when he was in high school. He went JUCO because he only had D-2 offers. By the time Lick got here his mom was fired and irate at the university. He wasn't going to Iowa if we offered. Oh and UNI was his only D-1 offer.
  18. True. It's too bad Ernie Kent can't coach. He would get a hell of a lot of talent to Iowa from Illinois.
  19. DePaul, yes. Supposedly they may pay big money and everyone says it could be a good job because of the talent in Chicago but that program is dead. I think Oregon has more potential than Iowa because of the insane money and the Pac-10 being down. Iowa can pay over $2M and has a $40M new practice facility and Carver renovation that will make it more attractive but the coaches in the league are ridiculous and you can't really cut many corners in the Big Ten.
  20. Anything on the DePaul and Oregon jobs? It sounds like there is some mutual interest between Iowa and Scott Drew which is a little surprising. I know he's hated by Big 12 coaches and most of it seems to be centered on negative recruiting. I think Pearl can be ruled out but one of his assistants, Steve Forbes might be in the mix. He's from near Iowa City, was a JUCO head coach and has been an assistant under Gillispie at A&M and Pearl at Tennessee. He's supposed to be a stud recruiter and is campaigning for the job.
  21. I'm pleased to hear that Tony Barbee is reportedly high on Iowa's list. It sounds like Auburn and DePaul are both hot after him also. So far most of the names trickling out as "expressing interest" are fairly positive.
  22. There's no one I like in the West and only Duke that I like in the South. I'm having a really hard time not going with all chalk after the first round.
  23. Keno wouldn't piss me off as much as some but he wouldn't be one of my top choices.
  24. With Wes, his Chicago contacts and the proximity and Iowa being a Nike school, he would be able to recruit really well. He also would probably underachieve in most years. Craig Robinson would be able to recruit here and might be willing to move but having an even slower coach than Lickliter might not be ideal.
