  1. so i am tivoing this game at home and have caught some of the 1st half. Have I missed much? :P
  2. I am getting excited now. Tivo set and I will (hopefully) have some down time at work to enjoy some of the game. At least the seahawks are fianlly getting some love but I still don't get how people can discount the #2 rated passer in the NFL, saying that Hasselback can't get it done. And last time I checked the Seahawks have the MVP in their backfield and even at 75% he is better then the 3rd string Goings. And the upcoming Jones pancake block on Peppers is going to be fun to watch!
  3. Go Seahawks too! Its kinda funny to see Alexander in the press conferences this week. He seems so much more personable while concussed. THe team as a whole seems very relaxed and motivated. I disagree strongly with Mizzou (no offense) that this game will be boring. Both defenses "fly to the ball" and are known for their athleticsm. The Seahawks offensive line vs the Carolina D line should be a good matchup and Jones vs Peppers should be a highlight (it will nice to see a pancake by Jones). My prediction: 17-13 Seahawks. Hasselback 19-28 257 1TD to Jurevious and Alexander has 16 rushes for 82 yards and a score playing less and giving Morris/Strong another chance to shine. Delhome has a decent game but gets picked twice (once by Trufant on a pass to Smith) and Smith will finsih with 5 catches for 68 yards. Trufant and Boulware will shut him down (relatively) but Goings will have one run to make Seattle nervous.
  4. There was a comment earlier that stated that the Cubs had an opportunity to form a dominant team. I just can't see how this is possible. The market was poor this season and the Cubs did nothing to hamper any future acquisitions. IMO they acted appropiately with their resources. Why spend the cash just because you have it. In this offseason, it was better to wait and spend it wisely then to waste it on overpaying for medicority like quoted in someone's signature.
  5. I don't know how much conversation I will be able to carry 'cause I will be working, but I will check in all afternoon to root for the Seahawks! I can't believe the criticsm Hasselback is getting. The best QB in the NFC and 2nd highest rating to Palmer this season and he is ranked 4th best QB left in the playoffs. Stupid ESPN.
  6. Well Good luck to the Panthers (ndistops) but I predict a Super Bowl in the Seahawks future! Can't wait for next week. Should be a good game!
  7. for those of us working stiffs (like me D'oh) can someone provide a full recap at the end of the night? Much obliged.
  8. I think we will see what many of the Cubs fans think about this topic after the convention and I think management does as well. For me I think that I want a complete coaching overhaul next offseason. Not that I am hugely against the current team's management but I think that it is a good time for a fresh face and new eyes seeing as how next offseason we will have many new faces. I will still stand behind Hendry with any outcome this summer. Hendry is the kind of GM that doesn't stop trying and doesn't let fan pressure effect him. If there is one thing that a GM must do its to make a firm decision and not waffle. Hendry has his faults but he is also the best GM we have had since Green (and in some ways better). Seeing what else would be out there and available inhouse I still think Hendry is the right man for the job.
  9. For those outside the Chicago area and what more info on the convention, tune to XM 175. They will have shows from the convention all weekend.
  10. repeated violations involving dangerous actions should be looked at and addressed no matter what company you work for. And if you are a public figure then your indiscretions should be accounted for as part of your job performance. For example, if I embarrass the casino I work for with something I do on my own time, I should be reprimanded. No point to have a label be associated with an organization if it can help it. Look at the Portland trailblazers. People still look at them in a negative way even though there is only 1 player left on the team from the "jailblazer" days.
  11. Bye Corey. I will still root for you to do well!
  12. Go Seahawks!
  13. He would be a perfect fit for the LA Angels.
  14. So if Arod broke his hand in a meaningless spring game that would be alright? Are spring training games a joke then too? The WBC is nothing more then exhibition games against different opponents and has the added bonus of being patriotic for players involved.
  15. I suppose there's some hypothetical limit for me, but it's tough to envision a scenario in which that limit would be surpassed and the ballplayer would still be roaming the streets ready to play baseball. Overall, I'd prefer to have the legal system take care of legal issues and the team take care of baseball issues. Reagardless, separating the two wouldn't be right either because his job has something to do with the way that he conducts his life. I'm not saying that forgiveness is not possible but if one team wants to release a player based on his indiscrestions, why would we want to sign him?
  16. I think that trading Williams for Brandon Wood is like offering Pie for Byung Yung Kim
  17. so what is the fascination with players that break the law but can play baseball allright? There was Bradley, Lugo and now Freel throughout the offseason. Am I the only one who would not want a player on the team that has a history of making mistakes and not learning from them, especially given the dangers associated with them? An interesting question here is what is the limit on our compassion for a player? Sure Bradley & Freel put up great numbers, but is that all that matters?
  18. Morales played mostly at 1B last season in A and AA. He seems to be the flavor of the month for many LAA fans now but will likely not make it to the bigs until midseason. The angels I don't get. One of my buddies is a huge fan and they are probably my fave AL team. But their offseason has been dreadful and they have nothing really on the horizon. They left both Byrd & Washburn go and haven't replaced them. I am not sold on Escobar coming back strong right away and who knows about Colon. The 5th starter is still a hole and their depth in positional players is great but their pitching is pretty weak. I can see Kevin Gregg and Jake Woods (who I am high on) could slot into the rotation but they really need some depth there. I would imagine that they should be hot after Jeff Weaver who would fit perfectly especially seeing that his brother is close to the bigs. As far as their infield depth don't forget about Macier Izturis who is a pretty solid option as a 5th INF. There have been Patterson rumors who would be an excellent fit for the Angels (hitting 6th behind Vlad, GA, Alfonzo) but they are a team that rarely deals and they hold onto their minor league talent with a vice grip. I don't know how Morales, Kotchman, Alfonzo, McPherson, Rivera will all fit together but Kennedy could be shopped.
  19. i don't believe that encarncion is available for ROY either.
  20. if anyone else has XM they were playing part of the Oriles FanFest which is similar to the Cubs Convention. It was kinda funny when an angry fan got on the mic begging for the team to take a risk with a FA but one fan asked point blank about Tejada and Flanagan answered. [paraphrase] He said that they have fielded many offers about Tejada and that they just wouldn't give him away. He went on to say that accroding to the organization Tejada signed a long term deal with the team and that's what the organization thinks will be the case. [/paraphrase] The "homeplate updates" included a sound bite on this so I am sure that if you listen throughout the afternoon you will hear some of it. Since XM caters a lot to Buck Martinez they might replay some of the O's intros (Buck is a PBP guy for the team).
  21. Player C seems to have had a pretty long and slightly above average career. I would pick this player for consistency purposes I think. Also player A and F are locks.
  22. There was an excellent article a couple of years back from Rob Neyer (Don't have insider so I can't search for it) but he basically outlines why Portland would be a great spot for a team and I wholheardtly agree. I grew up and spent 21 years in various parts of Oregon and I know how fanatical the people can be about a sports team. Look at the Blazers. They set the NBA record for consecutive sellouts. I wonder where Aneimc Offense is getting his info from on the economy and the market. The TV market is one of the biggest that still doesn't have a team and Portland metro is still in the top 20 of fastest growing communites. The impact on Seattle would be marginal at best. I would think that adding a 3rd team to the Virgina/Carolina area (Washington & Baltimore) would be more detritmental on that front then Seattle vs. Portland. Seattle is roughly the same distance away from Portland that Vegas is away from LA. No one is concerned about the southern california marketplace for their 3 teams with adding Vegas into the mix. I think that Portland has one of the best opportunities for baseball left in the US. A downtown ballpark would fit right in with the revitialization plans and it would be similar to SBC in feel as it would be built right along the waterfront of the Willamette/Columbia rivers. As far as the colors & mascots are concerned I would say that burnt orange and dark green (major colors of the 2 universities) would be 2 of the inital choices. As for the mascot the Beavers would be a top choice but I would think that the Timbers would have a say too. How about the Portland Lumberjacks?
  23. Because he cost more then Neifi and is basically Hairston with a little more power.
