  1. The Cubs have some guys they're going to risk loosing in the rule 5 draft if they don't make any room on their 40 man roster...especially if they make a run at a couple of FAs like Furcal, Giles, Howry, Saenz, etc...I'm guessing they're trying to showcase him so they can use him as a trading chip. I hope he keeps his AFL streak up and raises his value. If he does well in the AFL, I'd be willing to be he probably gets traded this offseason. A lefty that can occasionally get guys out can always find work in the big leagues. Koronka could likely make Kansas City or Pittsburgh's rotation right now, though granted that's not saying a lot. I wouldn't say that about Pittsburgh. They have some quality arms (all LH too) in their rotation.[/b]
  2. I think we can all be fans of good baseball and the White Sox certainly pitched good baseball. Bummer for the Angels but they looked like they never caught up on their sleep.
  3. I would agree. I don't want the GTD 4th year on any Giles deal. I would take a 3/36 with a 14 mil option and a 3 mil buyout
  4. Well cancel any availability for the A's. It says on the ESPN News bottom line that Macha signs 3 yr deal. As does this link
  5. Not to mention the benefit of learning about a really good movie!
  6. The problem with the "off Day" was that they would have had the off day if not for the rain out in NY. The general feeling is that iff a game is called due to weather (or other uncontrollable concern) the schedule should be addressed such that both teams have a more fair starting point to a series. SOme might say that by giving the Sox until Thursday to start the ALCS it would give them an advantage but they earned that by sweeping. They didn't earn the sleeplessness of the Angels by sweeping, they lucked into it by mother nature, FOX tv and MLB. As far as the issue surrounding this thread, I think that the 15/15 vote for replay will be more lopsided now. Especially after the game tonight. The bad call on Grudz where the replay clearly shoes that it went off his foot will further convince people of the benefits of Replay.
  7. To avoid the $50 million loss from the renovations, couldn't the Tribune sell the team and keep ownership of Wrigley and then have a lease with the team? This might keep the team in Wrigley for a more definite period of time and could be an immediate recoup of the renovation cost. The new owner would like this as well because he could lease Wrigley and then use that as a term for when the new owner can build "New Wrigley". As far as the Trib not selling the Cubs because they are a cash cow for them, this doesn't make sense. WIth a debt that needs to be paid right away, the best thing to sell is the one with the most value. That is the Cubs.
  8. wow, 20 pages of controversy about a team other then the Cubs. Is this a record?
  9. Are you kidding? That was a GREAT call. Yes, I'm a Jet fan :D Erggh...I'm still not over that call. Unreal how big screwups can get.
  10. Hampton is out for the season with TJS. It will be covered by insurance so that will help somewhat.
  11. shall we return to emergency NSBB again? P.S. Thanks Tim for your continued efforts!
  12. I didn't say that. I'm still a big believer in his potential. It depends on if you think Richie Sexson is a star. Dope is at best gonna be a less athletic Sexson. Sexson's a former All-Star and a very good player, but I don't think of him as a superstar. Just curious about how much his lackluster season cost him in the eyes of some of the prospect watchers here. Sexon is probably a good comparison and I wouldn't mind that at all.
  13. The LA sports media are bashing the ownership hardcore. They all liked Tracy and have used this as another example of a calssless organization. They claim that DePo just was a puppet to control. They believe that the odds on favorite is Terry Collins of Houston fame. Apparently he was a roving Minor League guy (similar to Little for the Cubs from I can tell) and is well liked by the organization. And we think Baker is bad. Collins is far and away worse.
  14. He had a rough year in 2005 but he seems like a guy like Farnsworth who has good even years and bad odd years (or the opposite for Farns). I wouldn't mind Mays for about 3-4 million if Williams/Hill had already been traded. If they haven't then I say stick with the youngsters as they would be just as productive.
  15. And Bowden's contract? Whne does it expire? I remember it being only for 1 year when he left ESPN.
  16. I read the Miami papers this morning, and many down there believe he'll end up being the Marlins next manager. Hoops This would make sense. I guess that Freddi Gonzalez doesn't get an opportunity this season.
  17. Against draft picks, and other rehabbing players, though. Actually this outing was in the AFL a couple of days ago.
  18. So no one still thinks that Dope has superstar potential?
  19. Updates like this would be appreciated throughout the season. Thanks fellas. Anyone know if a player is keeping a diary like Harris did a couple of years ago?
  20. what is interesting about these lists are the number of Cub prospects on them and snubbed. For those that say that our farm system i snot where it was, i understand but to call it week i would take exception to.
  21. Actually according to LA Sports radio and the sporting news Macha is not on the short list for LA.
  22. This is actually a pretty good site to visit
  23. Trot Nixon. Why would Trot Nixon be anywhere close to available? Since the prevailing thought here is for Giles but the odds are against the current regime of signing him, then who else? No offense but Prior for Cabrera would never happen. Why would the Marlins trade away Cabrera for anyone at this point? I could understand if he was making some money but his salary isn't even in the 1 million dollar range yet! I seriously doubt that he is a concern for the Marlins. So in the real world, who is an option if Giles is not available?
  24. this is the reson i voted for "other". Injuries to key players.
  25. I think that a brick would be a nice thing to have on my desk. I'm in! :D
