Spring Training 2020 (aka Mark Gonzales blurry photo szn)
mhuber92211 replied to Brian's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Anyone going this weekend? I have been planning the trip since september (bday gift) and of course there is rain in the forecast. Only going to the Saturday game with my 7 and 9 year olds with me! Cool boys only trip! I will be in section 121 -
Im confused with the Willy trade plan. Why wouldn the acquiring team just sign Grandal if that is the Cubs big plan there? I get that 3 more years of control and such but at a high prospect cost would make less sense unless the team is severely cash strapped which the braves and padres arent. Perhaps the roster crunch in SD would be helpful there but if Willy is traded, its likely to make Caratini the started with an aged vet to be backup. This wouldnt be a horrible play depending on the return for Willy. I still think a trade to Philly for Bryant is more likely than Contreras.

not sure why there is any mystery here on this one. The guy chose the reds because one his his best friends is the Reds ace Trevor Bauer. The guy even tweeted it as reason #3. There are plenty of reasons to fret over the cubs. Losing a guy like this is a very minor one and likely not a loss. Flip it around and say "the cubs had a shot at this guy even though his buddy (no pun intended) played for the other team"
-
I get it. Bryant is one of the best 20 players in baseball. However, the likelihood of him staying past free agency and the fact that he has had 2 dehabilitating injuries 2 years in a row provides reasonable consideration to maximizing his value to help cover holes elsewhere.

When Bryce Harper went to Philly, I had the random thought that KB would be joining him when he reached FA. Why not start that move this off season? Trade KB for Nola & Hernandez & Pivetta/Irvin. Keep Castellanos and sign Rendon.

See this is exactly what I am talking about. "Minnesota" nice? "Horrid Thoughts and beliefs". My core belief is simply to do unto others as you would like done upon you and do least harm. I also enjoy the assumptions made about me here. Thank you for relegating me to "being one of them who is perfect for propaganda" because I point out how ridiculous it is to no longer care about something that you have been passionate about because of a large company's actions. as far as climate change - basing regulations and future assumptions on only 150 years of temperature data seems like a small view into a much larger discussion. As far as believing in a border wall, which i do not (especially given my penchant for spending money on worthless causes when I stated more important needs are there) , I do not understand the illegal immigrant situation. Perhaps this is something you can educate me on. It seems like such a simple issue that I just can't wrap my head around why it's so convoluted. Is there a legal way to enter this country and become a citizen? Yes? Then follow the rules. If you don't, then you don't get to stay. Literally the issue is called illegal immigrants. Well, if it is against the law, than the path to coming into the country is there. Follow the path and come on in. The argument is over someone breaking the law and we should just saw "oh well, they've been here for 15 years so no worries, you are good" is ludicrous. Regardless of political debate, the topic at hand is the distribution of Cub games so we can watch something that we are all passionate about. If watching this on a channel owned by a corporation that doesn't follow your political beliefs makes you no longer a fan, I urge you to look into some of the companies that distribute other content you enjoy. I doubt that you will find one that you will agree with and soon you will either choose to watch something or become someone so bitter about life you can't be happy.
-
Wait what?! Please explain in your paragraph here complaining about one side of an argument being propaganda by using propaganda as your defense. How is a differing delivery of information the same as state only news? It is absolutely insane to me how people who stand for something different are called bigots. It is not bigotry in most cases. I many it is holding people accountable for the consequences of their actions. As far as climate change, FYI a volcano just exploded in south america and in one day spewed 10 years worth of carbon dioxide in the air. This is a scientific fact. Now I will be ridiculed for not believing in climate change. I agree there are several arguments for promoting a healthier planet. However, the asine way that this presented is ridiculous. For example, spending $100 billion dollars in California for a "high speed train" to nowhere. Require all new homes built 2021 or later to have solar panels. Over regulation of this "problem" that is undone with one natural disaster is a waste of money better spent on more important societal needs like education, mental health, hunger and shelter. You know the basics of life. The water rights and access to water in the southwest is becoming a critical issue that many people pay little attention to. I would rather spend $100 billion on better aqueducts and infrastructure than a railroad in Fresno. Regardless of anyone agreeing with me the ultimate message should be about kindness. No matter what I believe or you believe, kindness and compassion should form the basis of society. This negative media and argument TV breeds discontent. Deliver your message in a better way and amazing results can happen.

My favorite part is that you think this is clever. Nope, simply matter of fact. Nothing clever about it. Educate me in how the simple statements are incorrect. Is the suggestion that Tribune media not biased? Or Comcast? I am keeping things as simple as possible. Perhaps I am naive but how can a giant company be considered "bigotry"?
-
So huge media conglomerate buys distribution rights to favorite team sends many fans over the edge, Ironic given years of horrible team ownership of favorite team by huge media conglomerate. All simply because new media conglomerate has biased viewpoints of current events. Certainly old media conglomerate didn't have media bias or is it that their bias was acceptable based on personal political viewpoints? How many people who are throwing their years of fandom away because of the company who is distributing the games care that they watch their favorite TV show on a local channel owned by Sinclair. Because favorite TV show is okay but cubs games aren't? Oh and let us not care to compare the alternatives for distribution. Amazon? Fox? Comcast? Somehow I suspect there are examples of horrible reporting there as well. Face it, there are opposing viewpoints than yours. You are not absolutely correct in what you believe and neither is the other side of the argument. Learn to live in peace and enjoy life, such as your previous favorite baseball team that you have obsessed over for most of your life.

Couldn't they just option him to the minors if he came back?

I couldn't take reading this board since game 3 of the NLCS. I had so much nervous energy all October. I remember this board back in 03 and 08 and everything in between. I have learned a ton from much smarter baseball people here but I knew I would be even more of a nervous wreck because this team meant so much more than any other team since I have been visiting this board and the Cub Reporter site. The only thing that compared to this team was some of my oldest Cub memories of when I fell in love with them in 87 and mostly in 89 and the boys of Zim. That season was so magical that I became a cubs fan for life following Walton & Smith with Ryno and Dawson. That team resonated so much because of the seemingly so much fun they had together. Looking at them as a kid it made me feel like what baseball makes people feel. As an adult and experiencing more Cubs success than ever before I felt like having a good team to root for was fun but the connection was never as solid. Sure Aram & DLee were awesome and Big Z had his moments but nothing felt, for lack of a better word, "pure baseball." I chalked it up to being an adult and losing some of that sentimentality. However, slowly I started to see and feel differently once this team came together. Rizzo is a key component to that being a player that I can confidently point to for my 2 young sons to clap for but its more than just a father's sentimentality. Somehow this team makes me feel more like my 2 sons. I realize now that before I rooted for the team to be successful. Now I feel that not only is the team's success something to cheer for but the personal success of the players is similarly important. Their attitude and genuine personalities with fans and each other makes being a Cub fan better now than ever before. I can honestly say that if this team never won and 10 years from now a different team broke the curse, I would still feel more love for this team than any other. Legends forever they will be to all Cub fans for their performance. Legends for me they will be because of them as people and how they are together. I still sit here in wonderment that we all can say we Cubs fans are at the pinnacle of baseball. It feels better than I ever hoped it would be. Heartfelt thank yous to Tim most of all for this community but to everyone else that make the community alive please understand that I appreciate you all and I cant wait to learn more from you for many more happy days like today.

wait huh? Read Doug Baldwin's twitter. This is so such the wrong response. How ridiculous. Do you hate everything? it's kind of hard to gauge the meaning/intent when it's also about 9/11, but as a response to kaepernick, it's [expletive] stupid. kaepernick is kneeling to say "hey, this is a problem. let's do something about it". the fact that he's ruffling so many feathers is why it's meaningful. the seahawks are singing kumbaya and saying "nah, it's fine. look at our togetherness!". it's meaningless [expletive] that does absolutely nothing. it's the exact kind of thing that racist people love because they can point to it and say "see, THIS is how you protest!" and because they know how nonthreatening it is. it helps pretend everything is fine. i'll admit that i haven't followed it all that closely, so i'm sure there are honest intentions from a lot of the people involved, but it absolutely flies in the face of what kaepernick is doing, and the NFL probably couldn't be happier about it. So your theory is one person protesting is better than 75+ coming together in an attempt to do the same thing - effect change and start a conversation? I don't see it.

Huh? How? What is this all about? they're basically coming out with all lives matter shirts wait huh? Read Doug Baldwin's twitter. This is so such the wrong response. How ridiculous. Do you hate everything?

Cubs add Chapman for Torres, et al. imb wishes we paid more
mhuber92211 replied to David's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I agree that part of the lack of general excitement is due to chapman's past. However I think part of the issue is that when you picture who is on the mound for the final out of the world series it just "feels right" to see someone like Rondon who was "homegrown" or part of the rebuild and not a "rental". That's why the extension mattered too. For how exciting a world series would be, forever having Chapman as the center of the celebration on the mound would look out of place. It makes me wonder if in that spot Rondon would get the call if the game was in hand. Sent from my XT1528 using Tapatalk -
Brad Ziegler from AZ... Cheap and still effective

Oh, By the way....I'm not sure about this honestly....In the trade offers I have sent other owners I haven't received clear replies but is it bad form to simply accept a proposed trade without conversation? If that is not cool, please reverse the trade. I did accept the deal as offered without any side conversation but I don't want to make the other owner upset or surprised if it adversely effected his roster this week. I traded with Calvinball...not sure the equivalent screen name is here....
-
So they get a warning and no penalties while I get shafted without warning and without clear justification of what penalty was applied to my teams? Maybe in the 5 weeks since my points came across where others can at least get time to make an adjustment? Perhaps the commish has grown a heart from the whovillians and learned from the mistake 5 weeks ago? Who knows? However, I find this an egregious example of my earlier points. I don't mind these 3 teams getting a warning and time to adjust without penalty. I only wish I was afforded the same. To avoid future random penalites, after tonight's accepted trade, is my roster still compliant? I ask since I am still locked out of the archives where I am to look for answers to my simple (?) questions
-
clearly the rules are Unclear as you don't even know the penalties yet you assigned them to me. Again, i state I have no access to the archives as I have stated multiple times. SO now if the expectation is that I search there for the rules and not on the actual site used for the rules I am at a loss as to how better to point out the problems with this system. bottom line is if you expect people to follow rules put them where the rules belong on the rules page of the league site along with explanations for penalties and expectations of owners.
-
This is ridiculous. You set rules up in the place where the rules are supposed to be on the league stating that you can have 6 reserves and then you arbitrarily apply some sort of penalty with no warning or reasoning. Yet you say that the rules have been told multiple times. However that is not true as I am new to league, the rules are not multiple times. I had an illegal roster by these standards and it did not provide any advantage or disadvantge in either week's play yet I am being harmed by following the rules on the site you do know you can write these rules on the league page to avoid all this correct? Wouldn't the more prudent punishment be to eliminate the points that the so called extra players counted for? Especially since that was the alleged competitive advantage?
-
I am not cool with whatever just happened. Somehow my record was adjusted to 2-2 with no information on why or how. Apparently the CBS rules are incorrect and I had to drop players. I did and now I am down a loss. Did the players I drop effect this? I'm confused and not understanding how a team's record can be unilaterally changed without justification and warning.
-
put me down for Dylan Cease
-
So I draft 7th? Still can't get on the other board...says I'm not authorized still to see the trades.
-
welll crap...should have asked the draft picks before taking the team! Oh well...anyone want Trout now>?
