  1. why does it seem everytime seattle is on national TV and play well the Refs end up costing them? no way that is a touchdown on 1st down and no way is that play on chancellor pass interference. Drive should have been over long time ago
  2. looks like he is leading with his left shoulder into him, since the shoulder is hitting lee first. and the block was necessary for wilson to get the sideline. Regardless, it was clearly a legal hit
  3. $21k fine for a legal block on a "defenseless" defender? I might be missing something here but a defender running after the ball carrier within 2 steps of him gets blocked in the chest without leading with the head or launching himself and he gets a fine. I realize that Golden Tate's hit to Sean Lee looks hardcore but it was legal in all stretches of the game. Not sure I get that one
  4. Seeing how Dempster was a Hendry guy, perhaps this is a politics move and making a statement about the new regime. It happens all the time in business
  5. This is true. he came in with fanfare from Tampa to replace Holmgren (who reliquinshed the GM Title) and was just as bad. Consistently reaching for players but Lofa Tatupu - while a reach at the time- worked out well. The Seahawks have yet to have a solid first round contribution in the last decade it seems. Aaron Curry, Russell Okung both hyped as awesome at the time have fizzled. Although Okung is more to do with bad ankles than skills. When he plays he can pass block like a first rounder (run blocking, not so much). However, Earl Thomas (same draft as Okung) looks to be the real deal. John Lynch comparisons (from Lynch himself agreed) Back to Ruskell. Avoid like the plague. The guy drafted 2 QB in his 5 years (David Greene and Mike Teel) UGH! Although, he does seem to find solid role players in late rounds with DE and OL
  6. hoping for a fun game like the last 2 in Chicago! If only the Seahawks hadn't lost to the Redskins they would be tied for a spot! For some reason i am enjoying this season with a team of nobodys seemingly having fun playing in college atmosphere. Beast Mode and Earl Thomas with the Heater in the middle, just a fun group
  7. I tried to read all of the thread and jubilation but had to stop at this post. Well said and a much better summary than any other blog or writer so far. In the 9 years Hendry was GM, the Cubs became more successful than any other time during my life. He had some colossal successes and some colossal blunders. However, many of those blunders are now seen with hindsight that I suspect even he would agree with. Looking at a "top 5" list of failures on another site, Hendry's mistakes are poor now but put in perspective of the moves at the time, weren't as poor as they seemed. Zambrano's contract was actually a savings from what the market value that year was (although the no trade clauses he always gave were poor management). Soriano was market value as well and despite many prognosticators being right on the number of years becoming an albatross, that deal was not Hendry's fault. The Willis trade for Alfonseca is hardly a bad trade and was pretty even at the time given Clement's success. I think that for all the jubilation about the dismissal (and justifiably so) we should be fair to the last 9 years and look back on the Jim Hendry era with fondness for all that went right as well as all that went wrong. The last 9 years have been some of the highest cubs fans have ever been and some of the lowest. At least it was always this low
  8. Fire Hendry now? Trades are what is has proven to be good at. let him be good at the deals and then let him go.
  9. Did it seem that the Russell Pitched innings weren't as bad as his line indicated. The defense went horribly wrong all over the place for him starting with the 1st 2 bunt hits and the horrible pickle play where the ump blew the baseline call. Given the circumstances, Russell didn't do too bad.
  10. would it be possible to stretch Marshall out?
  11. Perhaps something like this and the subsequent comments will go a long ways to develop camaraderie in the clubhouse. Not intending to start a team chemistry debate here but situations like this can endear a group of people with management and thus a better relationship is born. Happens all the time in business where a member of a team gets let go and the management gets some public flack about it. Then the remaining team go to bat for the management and mutual respect is born.
  12. What measurement is being used for Perez being a good CF? I wouldn't be surprised if he had a better arm than Johnson but what else? In the game over the weekend he was horrible in routes to the ball missing 2 entirely, giving extra bases both times
  13. You tell me. Take the high road? How when a supposed moderator of this forum does stupid stuff like this. How is this moderation? This is a perfect example of what I am talking about on this board. A freaking moderator decides to not be nice and agree that being nice is better than anything else but call out the poster who is trying to call out he other people not being nice. Thank you for proving yet again why something needs to change around here. All I am asking is for people to be nice to each other. Please respect this and moderate the discussion rather than continue to fuel the fire. Obviously I am asking for trouble, but this cannot stand from a moderator. I made a post to put an end to all of this yet it doesn't end. Rather, a moderator decides to continue the argument for no good purpose for the board If he wants to question the integrity of my posts that would be fine but in public serves no purpose but to condone the bullies
  14. The bottom line... Why not be nice?
  15. One would hope you wield a position of skepticism when considering the writing of any author, national or otherwise. Furthermore, assuming the authors present a more intelligent argument than that of our very own NSBB residents simply on the basis that they have published a book is, yes, unequivocally silly. Also, if you are going to decry name calling I suggest you refrain from doing so yourself. People joking off the cuff about a synopsis to a book on a private message board is not ridiculous. Taking their jokes and comments too seriously is ridiculous. Again, if you are going to decry bullying, I suggest you refrain from belittling others. Yes, perhaps. However, most around here already understand that statistics aren't the end all be all of the sport. We grew up loving the sport because of the players, because humans aren't always predictable and are capable of extraordinary efforts. Understanding the statistics and science behind the sport serves to foster a greater appreciation for those 'magical' moments. Jokes are fun. Being too serious is not. Also: internet. You should probably stop doing that yourself, then. You realize that you disagreed, repeatedly questioned others' intelligence and called them names, right? Such hypocrisy is the sole reason I bothered to write this reply. Your hypocrisy aside, I find these sort of sentiments increasingly tired. Yes, there are some who could try to be a bit more civil, but this is the internet. Things said here should hold no sway over you. Bullying and insults are only as effective as the victim allows them to be. Either kindly disagree or take their criticism as possible things you could work on. Complaining about "bullies and jerks" only serves to make you appear a victim. I am sure that splicing these quotes together took a fair amount of time. Thank you for pointing out my failings in my frustrated rants. I appreciate your excuses for the lack of civility from other posters here. However, I will disagree with your assertion that what people say here should not have an effect on someone else. Cyber-bullying is a very real and concerning issue that many youths struggle with. Texting has also affected this. No matter if it is typed somewhat anonymously or said in person insults, name calling, criticisms and off color comments are not something that can just be waved away simply because it was done on the internet. What I find out of sorts is that you are singling me out as a problem here because I called out several posters for having bad form. Perhaps a different approach may be more effective but I suggest that instead of taking the time to splice my quotes and complain about them, you should have spliced the multiple people here who acted inappropriate in response. Since you haven't I take this to mean that you are implying that their actions are acceptable and mine are not. If that is the case, we will never see eye to eye. There are some regular posters here who get joy from putting others down. It is clear in this thread and getting joy from hurting others is never something that should be acceptable.
  16. Pretend this part was written by FJM to Joe Morgan these two words just blew my mind: "an Slightly." why is an being used, and why is Slightly capitalized? possibly the most incredible two words in the history of internet forums. Wow, why even point this out? You are calling out a punctuation error? Seriously? What is wrong with you? For the record, I had a 5 month old baby on my lap while typing and he hit the keyboard and I thought I erased all of the errors he typed. I shall send him to bed without dinner for his egregious error. In the future, I will have you proofread all posts so any punctuation errors no longer offend.
  17. This message should probably be relayed to the authors of The Beauty of Short Hops. Have you even read the book? how do you know what the conclusions are based on? Perhaps you should read the book before assuming you know what the authors are about.
  18. Hopefully someone stops feeding you. I guess I should have expected as such from this board. Someone disagrees, calls you on your stupidity and the name calling ensues. Clearly missing the point as usual but masking it with some supposed "witty" reply that makes no sense. Thank you for adding to the examples in this thread of what is wrong with this community of bullies and jerks
  19. how silly of me to think that a national author knows more about this then a bunch of internet message board know it alls. The reaction here is ridiculous. I suspect the "NSBB debunking of all things" book to be released with great fanfare later this summer. Perhaps reading something with an Slightly open mind might be better than simply making fun of something without even knowing anything about it. Its ridiculous to completely discredit something without even reading it.
  20. is this game audio available online anywhere?
  21. I love this. Being a Seahawks guy I can tell you that Matt Hasselbeck is a great interview to watch. He is always on top of things and quite witty. I doubt this is the last of this.
  22. Most Overrated QB outside of Favre...
  23. Strange thing is that there is very little play on this anywhere. You would think that a team that made it to the divisional round would arrant some story when they fire a cordinator. But more play was given to Tom Cable coming in as OL coach and our DL coach leaving. Something is happening here. Bates was a reach to begin with and was a McDaniels protege so I understand that interest. I would rather go with a more west coast traditional coach given the roster that is set up.
  24. Seattle couldn't blitz Cutler because they were running the ball effectively and more often than passing it. Carroll's gameplan was fine, just executed horribly. He wanted the WR to try and beat them which is probably a pretty good decision considering the level of talent there. Unfortuantely, the blitzing options just weren't there after Olsen had his 1st half they had to keep LB in coverage. Typically the front 4 is able to get more pressure than they did (they were able to 1st time around). Seattle did what was expected of them, but they didnt play as poorly as is made out here to believe. They got beat. They are not as good of a team. But they didnt play the worst game in the world. Had they played better on the 1st 2 drives, it might have been a different story (both ended on drops with a short 3rd down coversion opportunity).
