  1. I was listening to that interview too and it was actually Jim Duquette who said it. And Kevin Kennedy followed it up saying that he was 2nd to Brooks Robinson in that era for defense and was clearly the better offensive player in all categories. Jim then continued by saying that Ron matched Schmidt in many offensive categories. Regardless, good to see Ron finally get the accolades and respect that he deserved. Too unfortunate that it came too late for him to hear. RIP RS.
  2. How does Huff getting 2/22 affect what Berkman, Dunn and Pena are asking for? Huff's deal would seem to set the bar for these types of players now
  3. This is correct. We are talking about replacing Hoffpauir here really with an option of a guy who plays both corner IF spots for a backup (at most) catcher. Davis seems to be following the career path of the guy that many people like here - Alex Gordon
  4. I've read this post twice and my first suspicions were correct; literally everything you said here is wrong Actually, its not but thanks for taking the time to contribute absolutely nothing to a thread.
  5. Umm. No! I give Hendry lots of credit for the mediocrity of the Cubs. This. A lot of the Cubs problems can be blamed directly on poor personnel moves by Hendry. So could a lot of the successes... The Cubs in the '00's have not been mediocre in comparison to previous decades
  6. Sometimes the prevailing thoughts on this board makes no sense. On one hand, people are fine with paying an overrated pitcher too much money that will have a bloated and bad contract 2 years in but on the other hand a contract for a mediocre player making $1 million gets the blacklist and boos. Lee's contract will be considered the same as Zito's, Soriano's and Zambrano's within 2 years. No pitcher is worth $20 million a year in a contract longer than 4 years. Not one has worked out well for the team. Heck, CC Sabathia's contract is already considered bad. Stay far away from the big names and the team will likely be in better shape for the long and short run. Look at the payroll this year. If the Cubs were to sign Lee only the Yankees and Red Sox would have 2 pitchers making more than $18 million on the same staff.
  7. Ahh.... thanks for all the wonderful memories guys. Can't wait til I have more horrifying memories of this one too
  8. As the resident Seahawks fan on the board, I will Take the Seahawks and the points this weekend. Marshawn Lynch will help and 2 big plays downfield from Hasselbeck will seal the game. 2 INT from Cutler will help too
  9. for lack of a better place and not needing to start a new topic, I have a question. What is the point of putting Soto & Colvin on the 15 Day DL at this point (Both were today) and why DFA Atkins now? Since Tennesee's season is over are we going to see more call ups?
  10. Enjoyable Seattle/49er game. Nice to see Seattle not quit after a horrible 1st quarter like they did so often last year. Hasselbeck looked like he was back. The TD to Branch where he threw it to the back shoulder was precision. Pete Carroll getting pulled off the field by the Ref was classic. I don't care what everyone says, I enjoy his enthusiasm.
  11. Thanks to those for defending my statement. Ultimately, my point was that Hasselbeck is better than average but not elite anymore. I think McNabb and Hasselbeck at this stage of their careers are very similar. Both are capbale of winning games for their team and having a huge game, neither are likely to do so often enough to be counted on for excellence in every game.
  12. This might be the first seven-win division champion. And Seattle is awful the same way the Rams were awful last season. Hollowed out roster with zero playmakers on either side of the ball. Wow, that is a huge overstatement on Seattle. They are nowhere near as bad as the Rams last year. You have Trufant, Thomas, Tatpu, Curry all playmakers on the defense. Hasselback is still better than any QB in the division and likely better than most in the NFC
  13. What did he say, exactly? he Said that he had a conversation with Trammell before the game and told him that since he wasn't an option for next year he didn't want to get his hopes up by being the interim manager.
  14. So watching on WGN, Hendry was pretty harsh on Trammell. anyone else catch that?
  15. Wow, Holy overreaction batman. After Nady on the team right now, who else can play 1B? Shouldnt they prepare some semblence of a backup option?
  16. We should have a thread for an update on all the prospects recieved so far
  17. I don't want to see Soriano anywhere near the infield. why? a 1B has to Catch the ball. Soriano can't catch the ball. Problem
  18. I must have missed the green font, otherwise this makes no sense...
  19. So I work at the resort that Sponsors Corey Pavin on the tour. He visits here often and is an extrememly nice guy. I asked him last month about Tiger on the squad and he looked at me and genuinely said that he would take a young guy like Rickey Fowler over Tiger if he had to make the call right then. If anything since that time, his decision has gotten easier.
  20. Couldn't this be considered the proverbial "Vote of Confidence"
  21. What happened to Alan Trammell?
  22. It probably won't completely derail but it really knocks his chances of being a successful starter next season since he can't log 120+ innings next year. Would he have been in the big leagues next year as a starter? Does the MLB experience help him ease the transition from AAA to MLB as a starter? He likley wouldn't start this year with the Cubs. Could he in 2011? Probably. Can he Still? Probably. Does the MLB bullpen experience help him and the Cubs this year? YES. Good move all around actually. That's the point. He's not starting with the Cubs in 2010. If he starts with the team in 2011, he's never thrown more than 100 innings in a season; that's not going to cut it for someone in the rotation for a full season. You ask for anything more than a standard bump up of 20 innings and you're begging for major arm injuries. But it's ok, the Cubs like to do that with young aces. I understand that his arm is not conditioned for more than 120 innings but even he he got to that total this year, would you still expect 200 in 2011? Likely not. 150, more plausible. If he throws 80 this year, 120 next year is within the realm of possibility and that is a starter's load fora rookie pitcher anyhow. Like the Jabba rules right? I dont understand the big deal of pushing him up in MLB and only getting 80 innings this year. To me the 80 innings plus 4 months of MLB experience is better than 120 IP in Iowa. I think what the issue really is the Cubs history of arm injuries with these cases and not the inning totals. Obviously there are ways to condition an arm without having to throw innings. All MLB does it every spring.

  24. I actually wanted the Seahawks to get this guy. He will be practice squad for the 1st season but a good blocker and a thumper could be a mean "protection" guy
