  1. I get all of that. The assets you’ll have to give up for a guy like Cabrera vs a Lugo or even Mitch Keller who might cost less less considering the Pirates are always game for dumping salary at the expense of talent, I wonder if you’d have enough left over assets to make another splash for a third base right handed slugger without really having to sweat the cost too much, in the end they’ll grab a pitcher and I see little chance they make a significant upgrade at 3rd base in a trade.
  2. Being the number 2 scoring offense shouldn’t deter you from a needed upgrade, especially if and when one becomes available. Did the Dodgers not need Ohtani because they were the 2nd highest scoring offense in 23 with 907 runs? Another starter is a big need; that’s beating a dead horse at this point. The idea is to score more runs than your opponent, turning a hole in the lineup into a strength is just as effective. If Bregman becomes available he’d transform the offense to a significant enough degree to get by without a true ace in a perfect world. so with the information we currently about available players on the trade market, that’s the ideal route in my opinion and a hypothetical but more than possible scenario where the Redsox are shopping Bregman. This is also predicated on how much money the Ricketts are willing to spend and Tuckers future as a Cub, I’d feel a lot more comfortable with flipping an Owen Cassie if I trusted ownership to open their wallets.
  3. Joe Ryan in play at all?
  4. Any word on what he’ll cost?
  5. I assume the Marlins will ask for less for Cabrera assuming they’re not selling low on Alcantara?
  6. Only pitchers available are MOR arms who won’t quite move the needle like a true TOR stopper who can miss bats and win you that needed game. A MOR arm would certainly help, but an Alex Bregman would move the needle ans much as anyone on the trading block. This team will have to slug their way to a pennant and rely on defense and a rotation that can keep in the park at an acceptable level and let the defense make plays. The most glaring hole is third base and turning a weakness into a strength on a lineup that scores at a high runs/game clip, albeit sporadically would be a huge addition
  7. Sort of, the Dodgers and Phillies have flaws too, the defending World Series champions and the Phillies who lost in 6 to Houston a few years back with the same core. If they get the benefit of the doubt then no reason the cubs shouldn’t either,
  8. Tip of the cap to David Festa. Not much anyone can do vs a stud like him.
  9. Do We or don’t we need a third baseman? I get confused in here.
  10. They definitely won’t come back. Not against that bullpen.
  11. The one thing we’ve been able to count on all year long is the offense slapping around a number 5 right handed starter, the Twins have flipped that upside down the last couple nights.
  12. The pitching staff will be exposed badly without flawless defense like we’ve seen today especially with the amount of contact given up.
  13. Is Festa on the trade block? He must be good since he’s mowing down the cubs lineup. This team needs a dog in the rotation badly.
  14. Dansbys expected wOBA with RISP probably dipped into the .0900’s after the swing but we’ll take it.
  15. That’s a lot of intoxicants to take all at once over a weeknight cubs game. I’ll wait until the 5th inning at least.
  16. It’s only 11 innings in but the cubs have been Remarkably consistent this year, they’ll take 2/3 3/3 3/4 from the bad teams, slap around their bottom of the rotation starters and get blanked by their TOR starters, generally. So far they’ve bucked that trend badly.
  17. Tip your cap to Festa. He been making teams look silly all year.
  18. Outside of 2019 with Daniel Descalso being an automatic out for the first couple months at second base, it’s moot.
  19. A guy with a filthy slider who can locate it away vs Suzuki, what could go wrong,
  20. They’re first in position player bWAR at 26.2, Dodgers are in second place at 21.7. Meanwhile, despite being 14th in team ERA they’re 24th pitching with a 4 bWAR, which makes perfect sense when you adjust for park factors and PCA turning doubles in the gap into routine fly outs and Nico being an acrobat at 2nd base, They’re on pace to jump the 2019 Astros at 44.9 bWAR but it’s obvious a bit early to start bWAR watching. Only third in position player fWAR however.
