Nothing moves into or away from the plate either so it’s easy to lay off pitches at the edges of the plate as well. If you don’t have pin point command you need more than a high school level sequence of pitches. He has no business facing any hitters multiple times.

And another platoon bat. Because the team has flaws, like just about every team besides maybe the Dodgers at full health. I’m not stressing over them but I’m not dismissing them either. They’ve been pulling 90 win seasons out of their asses for almost a decade.

Cubs don’t have a pitching staff that scares anyone either, should teams not fear the Cubs? Cubs have dropped all the way to middle of the pack vs left handed pitchers in wRC+ despite pounding them in April. Their lineup doesn’t terrify anyone, their base running fielding and pitching staff is a concern, especially in f Woodruff gets going. You shouldn’t dismiss them because they’re average at one specific metric.

wRC+ isn’t the end all be all win loss metric. Fielding and base running war are part of the equation. The 3 headed monster of Woodruff, Peralta and Mizroski are why they’re a problem and will be neck and neck with the Cubs for first place. Royals won the World Series in 2015 with a 100 wRC+. It’s an anecdote but there’s multiple paths to winning games.

I’m critical of a lineup that doesn’t score runs. Nice gotcha.

Today perfectly encapsulates what they’ve been vs left handed starting pitchers. They don’t struggle stringing together base runners but scoring runs has been scarce. The wRC+ is probably higher after today too but when they don’t hit home runs scoring runs is like pulling teeth. They won’t hit home runs either with Turner in the lineup who can’t catch up to a fastball anymore.

They probably raised their wRC+ today as well with all the baserunners. What about runs/game and power numbers specifically?

The expectation shouldn’t be for the pen to be Superman, it should be not stranding 10 base runners and the home run or bust habit.

I’m aware of all of that. Counsell gave up on Turner hitting cleanup back in April or may and now Busch is at the bottom of the order when the pen comes in.

By his logic, wouldn’t batting PCA 5th with his 75 wRC+ make the lineup objectively worse?
