  1. Tommy Harris’s injury is why the defense fell off. They went from a dominant unit to very mortal after his season ending injury in week 13 of 2006. Ron Rivera leaving may or may not have made a difference but they never really played at a high level until signing Peppers.
  2. Besides all of the above, Burden and Loveland were given limited snaps in the first 7-9 weeks. They’ll both be a major focal point in the offense starting week 1. Their availability is an upgrade from 2025 much like Gordon and Jaylon, barring health
  3. What’s the word on Terrell smiths recovery?
  4. That explains why they traded for Bradbury.
  5. Wright was a liability in coverage and a glorified Zach Bowman, feasting off terrible quarterbacks in my opinion. They’re replacing Flus’s guys more than anything outside of Wright. They’ll stay a ****** unit with of without Byard unless they hit on d line at 25.
  6. If they knew free safety would be a need this year then Xavier Watts would’ve been really nice at 62 instead of that rotational lineman with a metal rod in his leg.
  7. I think Allen wants more speed at safety and will address it through the draft. It’s much easier though to make sense of replacing Brisker with Bryant because of his positional versatility and he’s much better in coverage. These defenders brought in are scheme fits more than lateral moves.
  8. Brisker didn’t even receive an extension. Hindsight or not George Pickens, Alec Pierce and Trea McBride were passed on. He traded pick 32 for Claypool instead. One home run pick outside of the top 10 is too much to ask for? The only positive spin here is if Claypool is worth half a horsefeathers they might’ve finished 4-13 and no Carolina trade.
  9. I trust DA+quality assistants over the awful coaching staff that Flus hired. Can’t say for sure though. Off to a bad start with Dayo/Jarrett and Turner.
  10. Ben Johnson will be in Poles ear. I’ll bet he has as much or more say than Poles.
  11. Tyrique and Dexter won’t receive a contract extension without a major leap in 2026. Not looking good for Brisker. 3 players cut before the regular season of their third year and Kiran might join that list. Traded pick 32 for Claypool as well. Brutal.
  12. At least there’s enough arms to withstand any drop off in production with a healthy Assad, Horton and Cabrera part of the opening day rotation. This would concern me more from 23-25.
  13. Sweat finished the season top 10 in defensive EPA. He’s an elite complimentary edge and paid accordingly. The issue is trading pick 41 and possibly higher with a 2-7 in 2023. It would’ve been easier to swallow if they kept pick 32 that Poles pissed away on Claypool. Poles half assed the rebuild by trying to open a bolt locked championship window. Two less top 40 picks on rookie deals that forced them to use more cap on mid level veterans on positions of need that would’ve been filled with those 2 picks.
  14. He burnt picks 32, a 3 and a 4 on receivers who were all cut after 2 seasons. If either of them had developed into a capable WR2/WR3 maybe they draft Edge/LT at pick 9 instead of Odunze. If Zack Pickens is a capable rotational DT then maybe Poles wouldn’t have signed Jarrett/Dayo to $32 million AAV out of desperation. The butterfly effect of his horrific mid drafting particularly in rounds 3 and 4 has put the entire roster in a hole by restricting resources to sign premium talent and positional flexibility in the draft to varying degrees. Right now our hope is having a coaching staff with excellent talent evaluation.
  15. WR3 is still a need. You can’t roll with Walker and pencil him as WR3 with such a limited sample size.
  16. What was the plan if they won the bid for Crosby with $35 million less to spend and without the 25th pick where you’re expecting your rookie to start day 1? How much money can they restructure?
  17. It’s a big advantage, so is Will Witherspoon and JSN’s $5> million cap hits. It was more of a phenomenon back in the 2000’s when teams valued running backs while the league was still transitioning into becoming pass friendly. The rookie contracts were longer in length where you had an extra couple years to build up your roster with more cracks at a Super Bowl. Intentional “rebuilds” weren’t as common either. Philip Rivers is a Raider instead of Robert Gallery if teams valued quarterbacks back then like they do today. He wouldn’t have won horsefeathers (he didn’t) but neither would Big Ben/Eli in Arizona. It’s more of a phenomenon for Super Bowl runner ups than anything over the last decade plus. It’s been exaggerated a lot with how different the process of drafting is today from 20 years ago. We can disregard Brady’s pay cuts which aren’t a realistic blue print to follow. I wonder how many less rings he’d have If he was paid according to the market.
  18. Mahomes was the last qb to win on a rookie contract back in 2019-2020. I agree. If they hit on their picks on defense they can easily build a championship team when Caleb gets paid. Hurts just won after getting a max deal because Baum, Smith, Laitia, Carter, Sweat and Dejean (Too lazy to find find the correct spelling) were all on rookie contracts.. Cheap star talent on either side of the ball is the ticket.
  19. Taylor Decker or Cam Jordan I can live with. I think it’ll be a transition year where they’ll stockpile picks to infuse an aging and expensive core with future replacements in the draft. It’s an odd pivot from offering Vegas 2 1’s for Crosby.
  20. The Bears have zero future blue chip defenders and they haven’t drafted a defender in the first round since Roquan in 2018. They need an influx of young talent badly. The good news is if they hit on their picks they’ll be in great shape with the cap when it’s time to pay Caleb.
  21. Much of it depends on Calebs year 3 growth. It just sucks that the division is so tough. No free rides to the playoffs like for Mahomes previously or Allen. Teams with high level quarterback play are always in the playoff mix though.
  22. He’s not a top 60 prospect for his glove, defensive versatility or speed.
  23. Trading for claypool was senseless. My thing with trading Roquan is that they were a few defensive stops away from 4-13, no first pick and no Carolina trade. The ends justified the means.
  24. Another dumbass error on my end. They do. The first part is true.
  25. They also drafted another injured lineman with a rod in his leg at 62. To their credit found some valuable contributors off the street like Wright, Jackson and CJGJ. I’ll try and give DA a pass here since he was basically given breadcrumbs to work with. The offense was prioritized first in the draft and free agency/trades.
