Yeah, I don't understand the negativity towards Sandberg. The guy has never spoken poorly of the organization and generally represents the Cubs very well. When the Cubs got rid of Dusty, he showed interest and Hendry played the "no experience" card and gave him a job in class A. It looks like he's done everything the Cubs have asked of him, so it's understandable why he would be unhappy about not getting the job. I doubt he says anything derogatory about the club and his Cub legacy will probably not take a hit. I certainly wish him the best. It's also possible that once Hendry is gone, Sandberg may be considered again. Anything is possible. At the same time, I understand why the cubs were hesitant to hire him. What baffles me is that Quade was given a 2 year deal.
this is the kind of thing that pisses me off. Damnit, don't half ass it by signing a piece of garbage like Nick Johnson. Either sack up and buy talented players or take the next two or three years and get rid of the dead weight and do a complete rebuild. Just commit one way or another. . . . . . the Cubs will never learn.

71 in a 65 is probably an officer thinking "hey, here's an easy contact and I'll write the guy a warning." Officers don't have to have ticket / arrest quotos but they do have to make a certain amount of contacts each month or week and a speeding warning is an easy contact.
I think it was '99 that the cubs pulled within 3 games or so near the end of July or august and then went on an epic fail streak -- something like 9-30 to piss away another season. I've been watching since I was a little guy -- '83 I think. 85 was tough, but I was way to young to fully understand the crapiness. Most years in the late 80s through the early 90s were very similar. No one expected much and if they approached .500 people were relatively happy. 2006 has been the worst for me. There was nothing good about that season.
Would love to see a teary-eyed scene when Ricketts says, " I just. . . just didn't. . .. just didn't realize how much Jim (Hendry) sucks at things, but we're gonna have to let him go."
I don't get the hate, either. I hope you all didn't think I was trying to put the guy down. I just recalled a lot of distaste for him, but it looks like he's playing well.
Seems like Fukudome has been swinging a good stick lately. Is it a fluke? Does it make him more attractive as trade bait? What do you think the Cubs will do with him?
That book was written 15 years ago. . . . .still in the dark ages of baseball statistics. It's entirely possible that he's changed his mind. Not that I'm for him being manager, however. . ..
when I see this guy http://www.bearotic.com/img/2009/02/eastbound-n-down-kenny-powers.jpg I think about this guy http://multimedia.foxsports.com/thumbnails/cached_media/0001/0001224/0001224349/images/thumb.jpg
My thoughts exactly. I love Ryno. Hell, I named my kid after him. I'm not thrilled with the thought of wanting him to be fired in 3 or 4 years (or sooner). I've never thought of him as the manager type. . . bench coach or hitting coach I could see.
I'm thinking Kirk Gibson in 1988. edit: I misread the question. Gibson didn't make the all star team (or any all star team in his career) in '88. I'm not sure if any other MLB MVP failed to make the ASG the year he won the award.
If Ricketts bring back an [expletive] like Hendry, then the organization might be taking quite a few steps back. I guess we'll sit back and watch. . . . . uggghhhh.
do people sincerely think Wrigley has more drunk fans than other stadiums? Granted, I've only been to a handful of stadiums, but Wrigley hasn't cornered the market on hammered fans. . . .. those morons are everywhere. But they are rich morons. . . . can't imagine getting sloshed at $7-$8 a pop.
While this has been an absolute train wreck of a season, it's also true that the cubs are not the worst. I mentioned on another board that the cubs had not lost 100 games in a season in my lifetime -- people argued with me. However, they've not. I don't think they've lost 100 in a season since the early 60s. It could be worse, but it could also be a helluva lot better.
