    I answered the question based on results on the field. 92 wins and one win away from an NLCS is a successful season. Doesn’t mean I was happy with the season. I don’t like that they aren’t even considering Tucker now. I don’t like so many players going into FA next year. But just answering the question as asked, 92 wins and one win away from the NLCS is a good season.

    Wish I had your confidence. I don’t. I think it will be one more. Probably Gallen. Maybe a cheap bat who can play 3rd a little. But I wouldn’t call that 2 significant moves.

    I think it is an either or, not both. Hoping for both. And if it is both I would think that’s a trade for a pitcher and maybe sign Okamoto. I don’t see Bregman as their significant FA signing. And if they sign Imai, I don’t see a significant trade for a bat.

    Thawv, come on man. Give it a rest. Every damn post is so negative. You sound like a white Sox fan. Cubs are a good team. Sure, I would like to see better. I would like if the FO spent more. But this continual assault is getting old. We get it. You hate Jed, you hate the owners, the FO is stupid, all they care about is making money. Ownership, FO, manager, scouts, and coaches all have no idea what they are doing. Did I cover it all? My question is why are you even a fan if you have this much constant distain for everything they do?

    To be fair, it isn’t exactly a Dbacks run that happens every 4-5 years. If you win 90 games you are good. How many did the Blue Jays win last year, 93? Cubs won 92. Every year a team right around 90 wins makes the WS. If they continue to win 90 they will eventually win. And, 90 wins is a good season regardless of what happens in the playoffs. If you only consider AA good season one that gets you to the WS, you are going to have an awful lot of bad seasons, even if they spent a lot of money.

    Willis coming in was something the Bears had not prepared for, I am sure. All week they practiced for Love and then during the game an entire new QB with a diffeent skill set played. If, by some chance, they face the Packers with Willis at QB again, and they are prepared for Willis, they will do much better.

    I don’t disagree, except I think their goal is to make a team capable of winning 88 games, not 82.

    Probably because this isn’t the place for this talk and, frankly, no one here is going to change anyone’s mind so why bother. I have to separate politics from entertainment. I come here for entertainment. I would guess a lot of people not speaking in this are similar to me. But, because it doesn’t happen often, I have to say I agree with CubinNY on this topic😬. I just don’t feel like discussing politics here.

    The downside of the Sox signing Murakami is they were not a team the Cubs had to worry about spending money. Would have liked to see the Red Aoz get him, as an example. All the teams that spend money still have the same amount to spend.

    They have to move Cassie or Mo as the headliner. I think the issue is people not wanted BOTH moved for him.

    Honestly I have wondered this a long time. Even when someone says a player is good against fastballs. Heard it a lot with Swanson. But how is that measured? I get being able to tell someone’s EV on stipulate pitches. Or their rate of contract. That is also easy. But how do they come up with an actual BA?

    Maybe a stupid question, but how is that measured? If he takes a strike on a ball at 95 mph is he 0-1 against that speed. How about a swing and a miss or a foul ball? Or do they only determine his average on the final pitch of the AB? Or with 2 strikes?

    Then you do you. I’m with hot sauce on this one. I love baseball. I love the Cubs. I will go to games and watch as many as I can. I don’t think of it as supporting the owners. I think of it as supporting my well being and enjoying my life. But if your life or anyone else’s life is better by not going to games or spending money because you dislike ownership, that is perfectly fine. We all should do what we enjoy.

    Me too. But you said worse owner. And since most of this discussion has been about humans with terrible beliefs, I was wondering what you meant by worse. Is a MAGA supporter who spends money feeely better than someone who may share your views but not spend money? I also would prefer an owner who spent money but was silent about his views, but that isn’t the question. Point is I don’t care about my owners political views. I assume a billionaire will have a different agenda than me. I want them to spend and win. I only judge the owner based on his ability and desire to spend money and put a winner in the field.

    Worse humans or worse owners? Would you rather have a cheap owner who is very liberal or a MAGA owner who spends money like the Mets?

    I won’t criticize you for your opinion, but what do you know about any of the Rays prospects to even make a statement like that? That is where I feel you are wrong. How can you make that assessment considering, I would assume, until the deal was made yiu had no knowledge of any of the Rays prospects? In the end yiu might be right. None of those prospects may ever develop. But to say so positively that the O’s won the trade easily now is setting yourself up for criticism.

    I agree. Plus Baz comes with one additional year of control. He also has top prospect pedigree behind him, like Gore. I wouldn’t part with Shaw, Horton or Wiggins and only 1 of Cassie or Ballesteros for Gore Then add either Brown, Assad or Wicks and maybe a younger lower level prospect or 2 and that is it. If that isn’t enough move on to someone else. I would make the same offer for Cabrera, who comes with an extra year of control, or Ryan. There are probably a few other options as well. But the package above would be the highest I would go for anyone they can realistically get.

    No judgement. I just can’t sleep during a Bears game. Same with the Cubs. I get too amped up.

    But it isn’t pointless really. If I think he is a #2 and someone else says they think he is a #3, you and everyone else here understands I think he is better than the other guy does. Used that way, it has a purpose.

    Yes, once the season starts just have guys who can go out every 5th game. But there is a reason to call someone a #2 or #4. Just a way of suggesting how good you think a player is. If the Cubs are talking to the pirates about Skenes they are looking for a #1 and an ace. If they are talking to them about Keller they are looking for a MOR starter or a possible #3. Used as just a guide to determine a guys talent,’it has a place. Less meaningful during the season.

    I think the idea of Gore is to raise the ceiling. Again, I understand people having issue with Gore. I’m not totally sold on him either. But if the Cubs traded for him it would be because they believe there is more there. And he could be a #1.

    Honestly, I didn’t think we would get much substance. Been an “inside the clubhouse” listener a long time. They like teasing people into thinking they have info to share and then don’t really have anything.

    Right. I forgot about the opt out options. This is a terrible deal for any team except the Padres. We obviously know worst case scenerio is him getting hurt and having him on payroll for 3 years. But really what is best case? If he pitches well you have him one year and he is gone. You lose a second round pick and IFA money for one year of King. Just not a good idea.
