  1. But I don’t think it is cheaper to get Suarez than it is a rental pitcher. Of the rentals maybe only Cease would cost more, and I have doubts Cease is available. Best rentals realistically available are guys like Kelly, Lugo, Houser, Soroka, Gallen. None would cost what Suarez costs. And the Cubs need a pitcher or two way more than Suarez.
  2. They are not doing this. There is a far greater chance Cassie gets traded than there is him playing left field for the Cubs this year while they fake an injury to Happ.
  3. Especially since we have seen this from him a few times. He has probably had 4 disastrous starts in the two years with the team. For some reason it happens to him. But for the most part his other starts are either good or great. He is fine. Just had a bad start. It happens.
  4. Yep. They are a team with a top 5 record in the league and they have absolutely no chance of winning the WS. They should probably sell. But then again, every team in baseball has gone through tough 20 game stretches. So I guess no team is going to win the WS this year.
  5. No problem. I think we both agree here.
  6. I know this. You probably should have responded to peanut, not me. He seems to think Cabrera isn’t an upgrade over Assad. Which he is. But if somehow Assad is as good as Cabrera it would be great to have two guys to turn to instead of Rea and a bullpen day.
  7. Why does Cabrera have to be an upgrade? He is, but even assuming you are right (you’re not), why can’t the Cubs have Cabrera and Assad?
  8. Who are you considering 3 great prospects. If they truly had to give up 3 GREAT prospects, I would agree with you. But if it is one top 100 prospect and two others between 12-25 in the organization I would be fine getting Cabrera.
  9. Maybe I am buying into to Jason’s explanation that Suarez won’t be as big a difference as we think he will be, but I think I would rather have Castro at a lower cost, than Suarez for his rumored/expected cost.
  10. Predicting it now. Like it or not Cubs get either Cabrera or Alcantara before the Marlins leave Milwaukee on Sunday. Whichever one they get starts Tuesday in Milw. If I had to pick the second pitcher they end up with I would say Kelly.
  11. Do the Cubs get Castro with just one of those guys? I might rather do that. I like Castro’s versatility. And it allows Shaw to play more.
  12. That sucks for the Sox. I am sure they want to trade him.
  13. Taillon being better is up to debate. But they can also just trade Kremer next off season. Or just start without Steele, who may not be ready in April and when Steele comes back you decide what to do. Injuries might make the decision simple.
  14. Based on what he suggested the Reds had to give up for Suarez, I am surprised it is just Wiggins. I would have thought he would say Alcantara or Cassie too. What an idiot.
  15. You trade someone?🤷
  16. Castro would be fine with me. Especially if the Dbacks are asking too much for Suarez.
  17. I am going to trust the Cubs on Alcantara. If they trade for him, IMO, he will do well here. If they don’t trade for him I am okay with that as well. However, I would also want someone else if they get Alcantara. A more sure thing sort of guy. Kelly or Lugo, as an example. But Alcantara would be the guy the Cubs would hope to slot beteeen Boyd and Imanaga. He is a high risk high reward guy.
  18. Why up? I would think the Yankees getting McMahon takes them out of Suarez. If it did anything I would guess it brought the price down. My guess is the Dbacks are asking too much now and the Yankees moved on.
  19. Really I was responding to someone who suggested more than one if the top names had to go for Cabrera or Alcantara. Maybe I read his comment wrong but I thought he was saying he didn’t like the idea of Alcantara or Cabrera coming to us but the Cubs having to headline a deal with Cassie, and either Wiggins or Rojas. My point is, I don’t think they need to do that much. But I do think either will cost the Cubs either Cassie or Alcantara. Marlins probably want a kicker too. That might be where the Cubs hold the line. I think those guys will not be cheap.
  20. I would actually like to see something so that Rea doesn’t have to pitch in the Brewers series. Lugo went against Rea so obviously he would be ready. If they are close to something for any other pitcher who might be scheduled for either Sunday or Monday, that is another option for Tuesday. I really hope something is done by the end of the day tomorrow.
  21. They can also move Cam Smith to third and be in on an outfielder. But I agree they will be checking on Suarez.
  22. I don’t see a trade for either Marlin starter to have more than one top tier guy. And I wouldn’t make it with Wiggins. I can see Cassie going for one of those pitchers. If there is more needed I think it would be come from guys not listed by tryptamine.
  23. I pretty much agree with this with some slight differences. First, Wiggins would only be available for Gore. No other controlled starter. As for the others in that group, I would just add the guy would have to be a pitcher. Not a controlled bat. Same with the next tier. I don’t think the Cubs have to worry about a controlled bat. I also think that is what you meant, just clarifying if the Cubs do get a controlled asset, it would be a pitcher. I agree with your breakdown, however. Nicely done.
