  1. Either. Guess the one in the Orioles would be easier. They will be here on 8/1. Trade for Morton and Urias and they can just come to the home clubhouse.
  2. To be clear, I wouldn’t be happy with one rental pitcher and Urias. Now if they did add Iglesias and instead of Urias it was Castro, it is ok. But even then, I would hope for a second pitcher. Kelly, Soroka, Castro and Iglesias would be a fine deadline upgrade. All rentals. But with other teams wanting people too, they still might cost more than we think.
  3. Looks like if anything happens it will happen on Thursday. The issue I have with this is with the Cubs supposedly eyeing controlled pitchers, there really isn’t a reason whoever they are talking to needs to come down on their ask. If they don’t get it they can just keep the pitcher. A rental is different. Trade him or lose him next year. More urgency to move that guy. I am beginning to think Cubs end up with one pitcher who is a MOR starter and hopefully a bench bat. Maybe something like Kelly and Urias. Which doesn’t move the needle much for me. Maybe also a middle relief pitcher or Iglesias.
  4. That’s not the point. The point is there was no way Boyd was going to come out after 3. Can’t blow the entire pen in one game. So he would have used the non circle of trust guys and got bombed. Like they did after 5 innings.
  5. So the guys that wanted Flexen in the 4th inning, how does he look now? There was a reason CC left Boyd in. Flexen sucks!!!!!
  6. My concern is the Cubs want a controllable pitcher. With those the team trying to dump can just decide not to do it if the Xubs don’t match the price and try trading that pitcher next year. It isn’t like a rental. If Az doesn’t negotiate with a team trying to buy either Gallen or Kelly they lose that guy for nothing next year. Same with any rental. So in that case something is better than nothing. So they may lower the cost. If the Marlins want Cassie for Cabrera they could take a lesser package from the Cubs or just keep Cabrera and have him next year. So they don’t have to lessen their price. I am just using Kelly, Gallen and Cabrera as examples. This goes for all rentals versus controlled pitchers.
  7. This has nothing to do with what the post you responded to was about. We were discussing Assad. You are talking Hoyer. Long day, lots of threads open. I get it. But this isn’t for here.
  8. Huge difference between Assad and PCA or Palencia. Those guys had special talent. PCA was and is a 5 tool guy. Palencia throws the ball 102 mph. Assad has no such talent. He is what he is. A solid #5 starter who has lucked into numbers that would make him look like a MOR starter. There is very little reason to assume he will get better because PCA and Palencia did.
  9. this is a problem. I agree. And that is why probably Thursday is when everything will happen. Trams won’t keep guys just to keep them. So prices will go down and guys will be traded. Might still be artificially inflated prices, but not what they are now.
  10. Or two starting pitchers and the one get better because Horton moves to the pen.🤷
  11. Actually Shaw is starting to catch up to him offensively. And at the time of the Astros series Cam was destined to be a multi year all star and Shaw a bust. Doesn’t appear either is the case right now.
  12. I think it is absolutely easier for him to maneuver now. I said that when it was suggested he would sign an extension at the ASB. Trades will be easier and so will negotiations with Tucker and PCA. They know the guy is here for a bit. I know Jed gets cut down by fans that honestly are pretty unfair about where they place blame. People suggesting he has more assets don’t want to hear that Ricketts doesn’t allow him to use the assets the large market teams should use. They just want to bitch about Jed. Sure, he makes mistakes. But he does way more right than wrong. And complaining he hasn’t made the playoffs since he got here is not seeing what he had to do when he started, and what TR allows him to do. The Cubs were not going to get anyone better, who would go along with Ricketts plans. I am glad they signed him.
  13. Count me in as considering this a good move. I said it earlier that he would sign soon.
  14. He was coming back and injured it again. Normally it doesn’t take this long.
  15. Cubs are said to be looking at controlled starters. . Strider and Iglesias🤷
  16. With the Braves now getting Carrasco could they be getting a few starters so that they can trade one at the deadline? Besides Iglesias what starter would be of interest to the Cubs?
  17. I trust this must have come up before since you are singling me out for saying something about Ward playing 3rd. But damn, you must really scrub peoples comments to remember I said that. That said, I will stand by it. Ward is not a 3rd baseman. But I will say, Ward would be a nice bench upgrade. I also like Jansen and Soriano. Problem might be the cost.
  18. Couple of points based on several different opinions and statements. First, Assad is a fine #5 starter. He is not better than Taillon. Next, he will be ready to be back on the team by mid August. And he could start then. He will do more than pitch in relief and it will be before September. I know many just look at era and determine the guy is good or bad. I know several fans couldn’t care less about peripherals but they do matter. The fact is Assad has been luckier than he is good. He has pitched to MOR counting numbers but with actual underlying numbers that suggest he is a #5 moving forward. This isn’t criminally underrating him, it is just speaking the truth. He is a bit better than Rea so that should help. But he isn’t someone I want pitching game 3 of a playoff series.
  19. I have championed the pen for most of the year. But I do now see some warts. They need another pen arm. They have Flexen, who probably has run his course, as well as Kristie (or whatever his name is) that they can improve on. I am also not so confident in Pomoranz as I used to be. They can definitely add a pen arm.
  20. Maybe Assad comes back and starts. I know that is basically the same thing.
  21. Don’t bother with this. People want to assume he sucked and the Cubs were stupid for making a trade for a MOR starter. They don’t want to be bogged down in facts like he was very good then they traded for him and actually did very well with them the year they got him.
  22. Ok, how about two best teams in the United States? Canada isn’t our 51st state…..YET!!
