  1. You don’t expect the Cubs to advance? You mean beat the Padres? Why is this? You talk about the Cubs starting pitching as if it is bad, but what about the Padres? Exactly why are the Padres better than the Cubs? I will take my chances with Imanaga, Boyd and if needed, Horton, over whatever 3 pitchers the Padres start. Padres are not particularly good against lefties and they will also be starting all right handed pitchers. Cubs don’t have to worry about a left handed starting pitcher. SD also has issues with hitting home runs. Have you been following how bad they have been doing? Sorry, this is just the sort of thing that bugs me. People cutting down the Cubs for not being able to compete with whoever they are going to play, without really looking at the competition and their issues as well. They may very well lose the series. But I wouldn’t say I expect that to happen.
  2. I think he goes to the money. So that would be the reason to think they didn’t try. At least most players go to the money. But at his age and already financially secure maybe location does matter? Maybe he did like Philly more than Chicago.🤷
  3. Just looked at the standings. Instead of hoping the brewers lose and a long long shot chance of the Cubs passing them, I have decided to hope the Brewers win. I want them to beat out the Phillies for the top spot. Much rather play the Brewers if we win a WC round, than play the Phillies. Lead is only 2.5 games.
  4. How is 40-24, .758 ball. It is .625. Far cry from what the. Brewers did over 60 games. Doesn’t matter. The whole season counts. But 40-24 isn’t that amazing for 64 games. Also in 23 and 24 you can probably find a 50-60 game stretch the Cubs played .625 ball. Considering they were at one point in ‘23, 10 games under .500 and later that year were 10 games over .500, I am certain they had only over .625 ball for a time.
  5. Was it? I don’t remember that. Didn’t they trade him where he wanted to go? I am sure a few negative comments were made, but I don’t remember an ugly exit. But you might be right. I just don’t remember it that way.
  6. 270./323./427/.750 against left handed pitching. Way better than Busch. I don’t know why this comes up every time Turner plays for Busch. He has been fine against left handed pitching. There is no charade and no reason to cut bait. But they should only use him against a lefty pitchers. He is useless otherwise.
  7. Honestly, it isn’t the job of Cubs players to make there fans feel good about their chances. As was pointed out to you before, there is a good chance whoever they are playing will also be playing just as poorly as they are going into the playoffs. For the record, 14-10 in their last 24 isn’t playing poorly. It is around a 94 win pace. I think Cubs fans are very unrealistic in their expectations of what good is. And, honestly it doesn’t matter anyway. Cubs can go 8-2 and play a Padres team that goes 5-5 their last 10 and lose. Would that make you feel better than the Cubs going 5-5 their last 10 while the Padres went 8-2, but the Cubs beat them? Playoffs are pretty close to a flip of the coin. Period.
  8. Exactly what I was going to say. Everyone focusing on the Cubs, obviously. But with SD, the likely opponent in round 1, 10-13 in their last 23 games, they must have people lacking in their production. Same with the Brewers or all the other teams except for the Phillies. I understand chibears point, but it goes for every team. There handling to be a struggling team win a playoff series. It is just going to happen.
  9. Besides that a ball in the stands is fair game. I mean, he didn’t wrestle it away from her. He came over, saw the ball and picked it up. She was 100% wrong with what she did. Just ridiculous.
  10. I didn’t hear Counsell’s comment. But based on what you said it does appear to be a canned manager response. That said, if the Cubs think he is one of their 10-12 best pitchers at the end of the year, I don’t have any issues with them bringing him up and having him on thr playoff roster. I am sure they can maneuver the 40 man accordingly.
  11. I agree. Cubs are holding him back for an extra year of control. Just like they didn’t hold Horton back for that reason. It is all about load management. He isn’t going to be in the rotation from the start of the season. He might not even be the first man up, if that man is needed before June.
  12. For all those doomsday cubs fans suggesting they will lose in the playoffs because of how poorly they are playing going into the playoffs, the Cubs and Phillies are the only 2 teams currently in the NL playoffs that have played over 500 ball since 8/15. Granted, I picked a random date to show these numbers. And the Cubs can very easily lose in the first round. But if/when they do eventually lose it won’t be to a team that played great leading to the playoffs. Obviously there are almost 20 games left, so a tr could get hit. But so can the Cubs. What has happened the last 22-25 games has no bearing on playoff success.
  13. He is also the guy who has pitched 3 very good games in a row against good teams. Nap maybe “right now” he doesn’t suck.
  14. I could see Wiggins brought up. Why not? Mets brought up 2 young pitchers recently. One started in A ball this year. Why not Wiggins. Maybe him and Horton work a piggyback start hoping to get 7 innings from them. If Counsell likes what he saw and wants him I wouldn’t have an issue with it. I mentioned it as a possibility weeks ago.
  15. They won 95 games in 2018. Tied for the most in the NL. It counts. They just didn’t hit in either playoff game. Brewers won the last 8 to tie the Cubs who went 5-3 in their last 8.
  16. Cade will be over 120 innings if he makes all his starts, maybe even getting to 130. That is enough. He may not win it, but I don’t think only having 22-25 starts is going to hinder his chances. Now if the Cubs take him out of the rotation now, maybe he doesn’t win.
  17. Yes, that was me. It is natural to only focus on flaws the team you watch has. But they all do. The Cubs probably have a 50/50 in any series they are in. No team is clearly better, but there is also no team the Cubs should obviously beat. All the money the Dodger and Mets spent didn’t make them any more likely to win a ahort series tha. The Cubs are. Hopefully good fortune is on the Cubs side this playoffs.
  18. I remember that coming out of Harry’s mouth. But I think the wind is tougher for PCA. I have seen him misplay more than one ball on windy days. Maybe there isn’t wind in Southern Cal.
  19. Let’s see how it plays out if Tucker does go on the IL.
  20. How have Warren and Patrick been better than Horton? Horton’s era is about 1.5 lower than Warren and .75 lower than Patrick. I get that some don’t believe Horton’s results, but his results are what they are. Way better than either of those guys. The ROY award is going to go to someone with actual results. Not someone who should be better, but his numbers do not reflect it. Horton has also gotten better as the year has gone on. Yes, early his K rate was bad. But he has gotten much better there. He is the better pitcher now and will be a better pitcher than either of those guys going forward.
  21. Even if the IL him I would guess Cassie doesn’t get much playing time. I would guess you would see Santana as DH or Castro play some. Maybe Cassie get a start, but he isn’t a sure start, IMO.
  22. Yep, if the Brewers had 10 less wins, which would still be a team in the playoffs and better than most expected them to be, the Cubs would have a comfortable lead and this site would be much less anxious. Cubs have had a very good year. And yet people find all kinds of issues with the team. They are not a great team.’they are flawed. But no more that any other team in baseball.
  23. Civale, Rogers, Rea. I don’t think Turner is left off the playoff roster. I think they go 12 pitchers and 14 bats.
  24. Plenty of time. And he doesn’t even have to go deep into the center of the circle. Just be a 6th inning guy. They have Kittredge, Theilbar, Keller and Palencia to cover the last 3.
