  1. I don’t think the Padres do anything different with their pen if it was 1-0 or 3-0. Sure, maybe something works out differently. I doubt it does, but maybe. That said, he used his top guys as if it was a 1 run game. Not sure how that would have differed.
  2. Did you just post something and then respond to your own post with a question?
  3. What does this mean? Do you think the Padres are trying harder? Or are you suggesting they used their best pen arms two days in a row so they are showing more urgency? I am talking strictly about this series. Whoever wins tomorrow didn’t have more urgency to win. They just won. Both teams will be playing as hard as they could. A bad AB or a bad pitching performance will not be a result of not caring as much as the other team.
  4. If they struggle tomorrow it isn’t because they don’t have a sense of urgency. Blaming not hitting , or a poor pitxhknf performance on lack of interest or drive to succeed is just silly. Both teams want to win. Both teams will give their all. Whoever loses didn’t try less. I guarantee that.
  5. I would guess that beside Kittredge, all pen arms are available. And, tbh, I wouldn’t totally eliminate Kittredge. If they win they have a day to rest. Then after one game, another day to rest. Soroka threw 5 pitches today. They might not use him so that he can start Saturday. 🤞
  6. Didn’t Taillon pitch Saturday? I don’t think he was ever an option for today.
  7. Well he isn’t going to use Keller, Pomarez or Palencia. Someone has to pitch.
  8. I agree it was a mistake to keep Shoto in. I was shocked he didn’t go to the pen or walk Machado. Pen was my thought, however. As for Kittredge starting and Happ in the line up, I don’t have an issue with those decisions.
  9. Too bad Arraez wasn’t playing winning, selfless baseball and could have gotten that bunt down in the first inning. Had he been better at sac bunting the Padres wouldn’t have scored in the first.
  10. Probably because the Cubs/Brewers are a better prime time game than the Mariners game against Guardians or Tigers
  11. Assuming the Cubs can win this series and outlast the Brewers, I would love the Phillies/dodgers series to go the distance and those team beat the hell out of each other. Cubs would clearly be the underdog against either team, but that just means they have about a 45% chance of winning it. I would take that.
  12. I would prefer the day game Saturday. But as long as they do play I will be watching. Typically I like to go to dinner on Saturday nights. The start time in Az is 6:08 for that one if the Yankees lose. Guess we will be eating in!!!!!
  13. You really don’t know if he tried to bunt and couldn’t get it down. Or if he failed and they got a force out. I also have no idea why you attribute a guy not bunting to thinking he is above it. The manager makes the decision, not the player. If Counsell or any manager before him wanted Happ to bunt he would have tried. To me, that is the most ridiculous point of this discussion. We can agree to disagree on the use of the bunt. What I cannot get past is this silly idea of a player being arrogant, selfish and not a team player if he doesn’t bunt. To bunt or not is a manager decision, period.
  14. 👍 thanks for clarifying.
  15. I never said $80M over 5 years was off. I am talking about Craig saying he made $23M already. He signed a 4 year $53M deal. Wouldn’t he have made $26.5 up to now. So wouldn’t the option be for $53.3M over 3 as opposed to what he is saying, which is 3/$57M. That is all I said to Craig.
  16. I am with you on all of what you said. But I think the numbers are off a little. Hasn’t Shoto made $26.5M over 2 years, not $23M. That would make the last 3 at $53.5, not $57. Or was his original 4/$53 structured to get different amounts per year?
  17. I do think they will keep him. But it isn’t a simple $13.5M a year decision. It is closer to $18M a year for the next 3. Sure the 5 year AAV works out to $16M. But the AAV for the next 3 years is $17.83.
  18. Isn’t Shoto’s contract a little more complicated than being suggested. I thought after 2 years the Cubs had the option of going 3 more years and his contract would total out at $80M over 5 years. If they do not exercise that option Shoto has an option to stay with this current deal. If he declines that option, he is a FA. If that is the wording, Shoto is definitely not a sure thing. Cubs have paid him $26.5M so far. Would they go 3 more years at $53.5? I am not sure about that. Would Shoto leave 2/$26.5 to test free agency? I think he would.
  19. I’m even worse. I live in Arizona. It isn’t even 6 AM and I am in the message board.😅
  20. Is this your attempt to suggest Happ plays selfish baseball? Because he doesn’t bunt? I honestly don’t know how many times he has tried bunting. But I am sure his arrogance or selfishness has nothing to do with him not bunting. And, again, bunting does not mean you are playing selfless, smart baseball. If has been proven time and time again that in many cases bunting is not the correct move. As an example, I was fine with Shaw bunting in the 8th. TBH, I would have been ok with Happ bunting when he came up with 2 on and no outs. But I wouldn’t ever say he didn’t because he was selfish and wasn’t playing smart team ball. He didn’t because Counsell didn’t want him to.
  21. And totally not true. Do you think Happ refused to.bunt? Seriously that is ridiculous. As for Heyward, he hit .210 that year. He should have bunted. Merrill is a clean up hitter. True, the bunt has been around for 100 years, and less bunts occur every year. You know why? Because stats show it is not a correct move. You are right, a bad result doesn’t mean a bad process. Same with Happ. He hit the ball over 100mph and happened to hit into a double play. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right call and doesn’t mean he was selfish (complete nonsense statement) to have swung away.
