    Honestly, I couldn’t care less about the Brewers. I am only concerned about them when we play them. They are going to win the division. I have made peace with that.

    I don’t think that is close to fair comparing Howard to Patterson. Corey actually did make the majors and did play well until getting hurt. He was also a top prospect. Howard never proved to hit, even before the injury. One was an absolute bust of a pick. The other was a good pick who got hurt and never overcame his injury. I do agree the 2020 draft was a crazy draft with little to go on. Basically you had to get lucky with who you took, based on limited input.

    It does suck. I had no idea it was a night game until after I made plans this evening. Typically a very safe bet the Cubs are playing early on Sunday. Damn it.

    He has 36. He can absolutely get to 40. If he does 40/40 he has to be mvp, right? Even if a Ohtani comes back and pitches well.

    I’m not sure what this means. Are you saying Counsell has to manage better the last 27 games. Are those dates he made good managing decisions? I don’t think any of this is on Counsell. The Cubs just have to play better. Period.

    No doubt losing Swanson hurts. And also no doubt they are not playing as well without him. But they are still very much in a solid playoff spot. Yes, not as sure as I was a week ago, but still ok. Would love to win the first WC spot and have home field advantage, but if not, it doesn’t really matter to me if they come 5th or 6th. It’s either Phillies or Braves on the road. I might actually rather play the Braves. 🤷 They just need to get in. As Brian said, it has been a roller coaster of a season. But when they are good and if they get pitching from Gausman, Holmes and Boyd, they can beat anyone.

    Overreact much? I would say so. Dismal season? Come on man. They are probably going to win 90+ games. If you want to follow a team with a dismal season follow the Rockies. But if you follow the Cubs at least have a clue. Also CC and the coaching staff aren’t even close to sucking at their job. Again, get a clue. They are struggling right now. Act like you have some knowledge of how baseball works and realize they are still very good, but things aren’t going great now. And stop being so fricken overboard.

    I know Thornton sucked so that means the entire pen should be burned down. But if the Cubs don’t give the reds 5 outs in the 7th it is a tie game. Can’t play bad defense AND have a bad pen.

    Is there a rule that after 26 outs the Cubs have to give up a homer. Wish they would stop that.

    I would be fine with it. I also don’t know for certain he would take it. Most likely he will end the year with a WAR over 3.0. That will be his 5th straight year where he was between 3.0 and 4.5. I am not sure he can’t get a 3 year deal at $57M to $63M. He might take the years over just a one year deal.

    There are worse things than Happ on a one year deal. I don’t think they would be playing a “bluff” game. I think they would be fine if he took the QO.

    I think the problem with Madlock was more the position than him not being here long enough. Cubs had 4 guys whose best part of their career was with the Cubs and all very good. And only being here 3 years probably also was a factor. But has he been a second baseman. As an example, I would think he would be on the team.

    This in true. But they might give him a QO that he might take. That wouldn’t be terrible.

    And Hornsby won an MVP with the Cubs. You cannot honestly be arguing Madlock was anywhere near the player Hornsby was, can you? Plus, Madlock played at a position the Cubs had 4 really good players at, for a number of years. 2nd base, aside from Sandberg, really hasn’t had anyone that good.

    Tinker and Chance were on the team, so maybe Evers didn’t deserve it. You name several guys I don’t think are better than what is in the team. But the one huge miss in this is Reuschel. Honestly he is constantly overlooked. He has better numbers than a lot of pitchers in the HOF. Madlock doesn’t belong ahead of any of the 3rd baseman named. Zambrano shouldn’t be on the team either. But you are right, some guys make it because they are beloved Cubs (Wood, as an example). Jose Cardenal really surprises me. If there was any bias towards the ‘16 team I would have thought Fowler or Zobrist over Cardenal.

    I’ve pretty much given up on the division. Just finish strong and then beat the Brewers in round 2, after needing either the Padres or Phillies. If Gausman, Holmes and Boyd are pitching well come the playoffs, there isn’t a team the Cubs can’t beat. Doesn’t mean they will beat them, but they are much better positioned for a playoff run then they were last year.

    He is good against the Cubs. Always has been. Hope your words don’t come back to bite you. I do wish he wasn’t on the Reds.

    But then the Cubs would be in the hook for around $2.5M. That is a lot of money to spend just so a guy doesn’t play against you.

    He isn’t technically released. By that, I mean he may play against the Cubs this weekend. If no one claims him, which could happen, he goes back to the Reds. I don’t see the Cubs taking him, unless they want to make sure he doesn’t play against them. I hope someone does take him so we don’t have to FACE him.

    Cubs are a major market team. You can’t deem your first 7 or 8 prospects all as untouchable. They need to/should use the minor league system as assets to acquire real major league talent. I’m not suggesting all prospects need to be traded. But calling 3 definitely untouchable and then 5 more pretty close to untouchable, is just not what a major market team should do. I would say Ayers and Hartshorn are untouchable. Everyone else, including Ramirez and Shaw are available for the right player(s).

    Yes, Shaw coming back would help. He has to be close, I would think. Probably the guy that add when rosters expand.

    Are you saying Swanson is done for the year? I am not seeing that narrative anywhere. 4-6 weeks would give him back around 2 weeks to go to back for the playoffs. I think he is far more likely than Brown, to help the Cubs in the playoffs. If the injury is 4-6 weeks before even picking up a bat, sure, it could be a problem. But typically when I hear out 4-6 weeks I assume that is considering being ready to be back in action at that time. Not back to baseball activities-rehab. I’m not saying you are wrong. I am just wondering if I am viewing it incorrectly. I haven’t heard anyone suggest Sansby won’t be back.
