    It sucks. Believe me, I was there and left very early. But it is one game. Would it have been better if they lost 5-4 blowing a 9th inning lead. One horrendous game. Turn the page.

    Do you want the pitchers to further dominate the game? A raised mound will lead to 1-0, 2-1 games. I don’t want to go back to 1968 again, except now with guys who throw over 100 mph. How does a raised mound help the game?

    I don’t see that stopping guys from throwing as hard as they can and not worry about injury. Do you think it’s will start throwing 120 pitches a game. Mis throws 104 mph and throws over 100 pitches. How is limiting pitchers going to help him? Any pitcher is going to do whatever is necessary to get a guy out. Worry about the next guy after you handle the guy up. I don’t think they will gear down.

    I don’t think it is a good idea to make hitting harder. As it is, guys strike out 25% of the time.

    How are 40,000 fans notified? Not everyone is talking baseball or expecting a game to change a start time. Logistically it just doesn’t work. Which is why it is extremely rare they change game times. Add to the fact that is is supposed to clear around 4. There are windows where they can plan. To further add, I am sure the Cubs want to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the Cardinals. If they could have played at 1:20 I am sure that would have been something the Cubs wanted to do. Playing a night game isn’t to the Cubs advantage.

    This is where I am at with losing any of the 3 mentioned. I don’t want them traded for a rental. Otherwise any could go. And if the starting pitcher coming back has enough time of control left and is good enough, I am fine with 2 of them going. Save someone like Kepley or lower for a rental, if they go rental.

    But I doubt they would throw easier or softer. I think they go full throttle until their arms go down.

    This is also probably true. I will be there today. Went Tuesday and am also going Sunday. Only in Chicago area for 5 weeks but I will get to 8 for sure, and maybe 9 games in that span. But they won’t get money in beer sales for me. Seldom buy anything at the game. Do eating and drinking either before or after the game.

    How does limiting teams to 11 pitchers help pitchers health. I am not sure I understand that logic.

    I agree. I want someone with at least 2 years beyond this year. If you have to lose two top 100 prospects plus a high ceiling young guy, so be it. If Shaw has to be in it instead of one of the top 100 prospects, that is fine too. This team deserves a chance at winning this year. Their offense and defense is good enough to be a serious threat in the playoffs. Get a good pitcher with time left so that’s one less thing next year as well as helping now.

    I am surprised at how many times people suggest changing start times. Honestly, how often does that even happen? I don’t recall it but for rare exceptions of hurricanes. Yet every time weather appears to be a problem people suggest just changing a game time as if it is just some easy thing to do. There are 40,000+ people who have to change plans if a game time is changed. Not that easy and not done that often.

    Weather looks rough for this one. But I have to think the Cubs will do whatever they can to play this game. Cardinals had a night game in Atlanta last night. I am sure they got in very late. So Cubs will want to take advantage of that.

    They were more the rule in the 60-70’s than the exception. Maybe not the degree the guys we are talking about, but there used to be 4 men rotations. Guys did start close to 40 games a year. 240 innings was not rare.

    I know he hasn’t really shown it yet this year, but I think Cabera is more than just depth. That said, we still need a solid starting pitcher added from outside the organization. I agree with that.

    Kremer is an option. Not sure he is a better option than anyone, but he is a low end buy. I sure hope they do better than him. Of the above options, I like Wacha thr best.

    There is just no comparison when looking at pitcher today versus the 70’s. Ferguson Jenkins had 7 years of 20 or more CG. Started 37 or more times , 9 years in a row. He actually completed 30 games one year. Over 270 innings 8 years in a row. I understand it was way different then. Guys weren’t throwing as hard. There were bullpen specialist, etc. But Fergie never got hurt. He pitched every 4th day, just like the guys BTB mentioned. Bob Gibson pitched in 3 WS. In each one he pitched 3 games. In those 3 games he threw 81 innings.

    I think you are way high on Ayers and Kepley. I can definitely, at least, see the argument for where you have Hartshorn, Ramirez and Rojas. But I think there is a large gap to the next two. If they are even top 100, IMO, they are near the back of it, 85-100.

    So is it inevitable that guys like Miz, Skenes, Skubal and Burns WILL get hurt. Not “if” but when they get hurt someone else will step in? I have noticed the Brewers let their young pitchers throw more than 100 pitches a game. Miz did it against the Cubs and just a few days ago Sproat threw 106. Will they be regretting this soon?

    I will admit I was shocked when I saw 5-0. So I looked at the box score, only to find 4 unearned runs. I understand the excitement to see a 5 spot on Miz. And really don’t care how the Brewers give up runs, as long as they give up more than they score. So I get it. But he did pitch well. I was hoping a bad start would start a downward spiral. Now all we need is for the Reds to hold on.

    Couple of things here. They didn’t lose yet, and Miz didn’t get rocked. 4 unearned runs. But, yes, right now the Reds are winning. Miz pitched 5 inning and gave up 1 earned run while striking out 10. That would not qualify as rocked to me.

    I like both pitchers, but your give is excessive. Empty the farm system for 1/3 a season for Ryan and then maybe, if they play in ‘27, one more year? He will cost, but not emptying the farm. And no way do you give up Shaw for Gray. That is a crazy overpay. For a rental like Gray or even Mize, I would be ok with Kepley or someone around that level. Maybe, if you had too, add another lower level prospect. If Shaw is traded he has to bring back a guy with at least 2 years AFTER this one. Maybe Detmers. Even if you have to add to Shaw, that is fine. Other options are Wacha, who has a team option after this year, Soriano(who has 2 years after this year) a Peralta deal for a rental and maybe a low end trade for Lugo. Guys with multiple years left consist of guys like Cameron, Early and a few others. Those would start with Shaw and work from there. I like Ryan too, but not for Shaw.

    What you just said is why I said one back end relief pitcher, not 2. Of course 2 would be better, but unless they are getting an established pen arm having a good/great year the pen guy probably wouldn’t be any better than Webb anyway. Basically a roll of the dice on a team that has many dice to roll.
