  1. I would love to see this armless, eyeless track star you speak of. :)
  2. Or local radio personality Garry Meier?
  3. If that's the case, can you imagine the calamity in the Prior household if he stubs his toe or gets a hangnail?
  4. Does that make Gail Fischer Scully?
  5. Well, they didn't introduce him slowly in 2002, and shut him down in late August because he was complaining about shoulder soreness. It was 2003, with Dusty "Pitchers are my playthings" Baker where he was amped way the heck up. So Prior's been complaining of soreness going on his fourth year now. All of this may not be the Cubs use of him. He may just be susceptible to soreness that needs to be accurately addressed. Prior supposedly hurt his hamstrings in 2002 before being shut down. I never heard about him complaining of shoulder soreness that year. He was also in his first pro season, at 21, throwing 40 more innings than he had ever before. Apologies. It was his hamstring.

  7. One thing that I was reminded of last night (it was in a dream. . . how sad is it that I'm dreaming about this current injury), but one of the major concerns about Prior as he was brought up in 2002 was his ability to handle a major league pitchload. Up until his debut, he had never dealt anything beyond 150 innings in a season (I believe). If he has reinjured his shoulder, this may be proof that while he can be dominant, he may not be able put up 200 innings year after year. How long before the "Prior for Closer" threads start up?
  8. The design of the helmets is also supposed to help better distribute the force of getting beaned in the head. I remember Len and Bob talking about it when Jerry Hairston got plunked. Anything that makes getting hit in the head less traumatic is a good thing!
  9. It wasn't so much that Pettitte has been around longer, it was that Prior's career stats aren't as robust since he's only been in the league three years. And I was just throwing it out there for comment. I honestly would lose any argument with anyone on this board when it comes to stats. I'm just trying to keep up.
  10. I'm going to throw this out there and am prepared to take the heat: I'd put Pettitte in the rotation before Prior. Based on past performance, Pettitte will give you 200+ innings, a career ERA of 3.78 and WHIP of 1.34. Yes, I know Prior has career ERA and a WHIP lower than Pettitte, but he hasn't had as long a career. So, feel free to attack
  11. pfft...still a lazy, uncoachable jerk. i bet he got there early solely so he could refuse more autograph requests. Wait, Corey showing up early for spring training makes him lazy and uncoachable? Sounds to me like he's trying to get off on the right foot with his new team. I don't understand the unnecessary Corey-hate. He was being sarcastic. Ooops. sorry.

  13. I receieved my copy of the CD in the mail yesterday and just listened to it. Great stuff all around is you're a fan of the Pat & Ron banter. There are also some great calls by Pat; things like Sosa's drive to 66, the division title in 03, etc. But above all, you have the hilarity that is Ron Santo. They have an entire track devoted to him getting upset at Cubs miscues and bad calls. Well worth the $10.
  14. Prior was talking about in some article a couple days ago. Basically, he got really sick in the off-season and didn't do anything for a couple of weeks. It was probably nothing than the flu. But as anyone who's gotten the flu knows, it takes FOREVER some times to kick it completely. Nothing to worry about. Prior just needs to build up his strength and stamina gradually.
  15. I ordered it about a month ago and have yet to see it. And, there's no one to call to inquire to its whereabouts. Luckily, they haven't cashed the check yet.
  16. Days Noah was stuck on the ark: 40 Years the Jews were stuck in the desert: 40 Years since the Cubs have won the World Series: 98 It's okay. I've come to terms with the fact that God has deserted Cubs fans.
  17. This is probably the most exciting news I've heard today (granted it's only 11:15 right now, but still). Wonder if Milo Hamilton will be interviewed
  18. And let's never forget the 2003 home playoffs, when the entire stadium broke into the refrain to "Go Cubs Go." Of course, since those the only lyrics anyone knew, they just repeated it for about 5 minutes. Does anyone know if any other major league teams have similar songs? I know the White Sox have that "Go Go White Sox" song, but I know nothing about the rest of MLB.
  19. Not to bring up the ghosts of 2003, but it has always bothered me that more blame is placed on the "Bartman ball" for the Cubs losing the NLCS than Gonzalez forgetting how to field. If Bill Buckner and Leon Durham are immortalized for their mind-boggling ball handling, why is it that Gonzalez gets a free pass from the national media? GAH! Stupid Gonzalez!
  20. That's not true. Wrigley will probably still have the worst and fewest bathrooms in the major leagues.
  21. Let me get this straight: Sosa being signed by the Nationals is a good thing because the Cubs could obtain a fourth 2B who really isn't all that great to begin with? Dave Van Dyck makes me cry at night.
  22. Yeah, but remember that Chicago fans depised Rodman until he came to the Bulls. Then you had people buying his jersey for their little kids. That's the way it goes with "fans" these days... Well, yeah, but it also helped that Rodman helped bring a championship to Chicago. Bulls fans also didn't care for Charles Oakley when he was signed . . . and still didn't during his year here. Championships in the midst of a drought washes away all sins, past and present. See Kenny Williams.
  23. While that release is nice and all, I think any story about K-Gonz should mention the fact that he booted a tailor-made double play ball in 2003. Just for a sense of history is all.
  24. They're all very Cub-like moves. Hope for the best, and have no real plan B. All the guys they signed are high risk, high reward (with the exception of Overbay who's pretty solid. If it works out for them, I would love it just to keep Boston and NY down for a year or two.
  25. The Cubs will be so bad, they finish last in the NL West.
