  1. Ken Rosenthal was the first person to report on the story last week. From there, everyone else starting picking up the story.
  2. Either way, neither would be an adequate replacement for Prior. Zito comes close, but certainly hasn't had the type of success he had a few years ago.
  3. "Dude, if it's one thing I know about pitching, it's how to hit it. And the world will swallow our entire lineup if I don't go r-l-r-l-r-l-r-l-stupid pitcher can't hit."
  4. Yeah, it sucks when I forget to take my "don't rob stores" pills. So do the cops who caught Reardon get credited for a save for recovering the cash? The case isn't over yet, so it's just a hold. The district attorney's office needs to come in and close it out. Maybe if Reardon gets Michael Jackson's attorney, the D.A.'s office will get stuck with a blown save. And as we all know, defense is what brings wins.

  6. I hope you're right. I also pray that we're all being a bunch of worrywart message board posters who have blown this all out of proportion. I also pray that a garbage bag full of money falls onto my front porch. . .
  7. Dusty has never been a fan of pitchers. He doesn't know what to do with them, both starters and relievers (of course he doesn't know what to do with hitters either). The biggest thing that concerns me is that no one in the Cubs organization has come out to refute this rumor. When Hill and Pie were bandied about during the winter meetings, Hendry came out and said that they were untouchable. I would like with a star pitcher like Prior he would have called up Levine/Rosenthal and said the same thing. [desperate wailing] BUT I DON'T WANT PRIOR TO GO!!! HE'S MY FAVORITE!!![/desperate wailing]
  8.    Only 23? How can you sleep at night! At least you know what the World Series looks like. Hah, honestly I thought 23 years would seem longer to you guys! I do vaguely remember 02, it was glorious. What I wouldn't give for having a 23 year gap between World Series wins! At least then we know it's attainable in our lifetimes!

  10. Actually, I think that "Grudz" was a nickname he picked up in the mid-90's when Harry (wisely) decided to take a mulligan on pronouncing his name. Or as Ron Santo called him "Grunz"
  11. Why are still rumors that the Cubs would trade for Tejada? With the Jones signing, we have one of the most powerful lineups in all of MLB! - Edward K., Indianapolis, Ind.
  12. I'm not a stat guy, but those projections don't look bad. Am I wrong?
  13. I love the official team site and message board! It always seems to have the latest news and signings from around the league, and is rarely wrong! --Edward K., Indianapolis, Ind.
  14. Why didn't the Cubs re-sign Jeromy Burnitz for the RF job after the season? He was better than anyone in the free agency market! --Edward K., Indianapolis, Ind.
  15. He won't trade Garland and McCarthy. That would leave them thin in the pitching department. it's probably one or the other. Apparently the Sox have said that they won't have McCarthy pitching out of the pen, so that means something has to give... If that's the case then what would Baltimore desire more? Garland for one year (or trade him mid-season for some more prospects) or Williams for a couple years? Garland has the potential to net Baltimore more, both in the initial trade and at the trade deadline. Williams would be a good cheap arm that would be useful in a rebuilding mode. I think a more important question would be, would Baltimore rather have Cedeno or Uribe. I say this because Baltimore is going to need a SS and it would make sense for the Sox/Cubs to send them one.
  16. But he can really catch the ball. . . I mean that literally, it's his main job.
  17. You're right, but customized jerseys aren't considered "in-stock" items. They have to to individually embroidered at the warehouse, then shipped out.
  18. I was thinking 866-4-FELDCO Those commercials make me lose faith in humanity.
  19. Your buddy may want to look for a new Christmas present. I tried ordering a Ryan Dempster customized jersey today on mlb.com and it would take 7-10 full business days before the jersey would even leave the warehouse. That was on top of the 5-6 business days for ground shipping. Just a word to the wise. . .
  20. Kevin Millwood also has had some negative things to say about Mazzone.
  21. Tejada for Mulder & Wainwright and move Eck over to 2nd. Why would the Cards want to trade Mulder? Sure he has one year remaining on his contract, but the strength of their rotation hinges on a Carpenter/Mulder repeat, especially if Marquis is used in a trade and/or Morris signs elsewhere. Additionally, your offense is already ridiculous. Why must you insist on trying to make fools of us all with Tejeda?
  22. I don't think this has been brought up in any other Tejada thread, but if Miggy comes to the Cubs, would anyone be comfortable with Patterson in right field? I'm figuring either Cedeno or Walker would be moved in the deal (O's would hope for a middle infielder) so the lineup could conceivably be: Pierre Murton Lee Miggy Aramis Walker/Cedeno/Neifi Barrett Patterson Or do you think the Cubs would still need to trade for a right fielder?
  23. Just throwing it out there (not sure if it's been discussed previously): Manny for Tejada straight up. Salaries would be something of a wash. Offensive production would be similar, and it fills holes for both teams. Thoughts?
  24. This all may go beyond the amount of money being offered. If Furcal was as close to signing with the Cubs as media reports say, what does it say to his character that he was willing to sign with LA? And I'm not talking about chemistry. I'm talking about someone who wants to play for your team. We see where his priorities lie.
  25. That inaugural Rangers season was pretty special. I think President Nixon was in the stands that game. . .
