  1. Honestly, it's probably the same. Buses are more sporadic than trains, but trains will run slower due to construction. Unless you plan on taking a cab, you're probably going to run into the same hassles. However, if you have a dirigible. . .
  2. Every time Joe Morgan smiles, a child cries. And a gritty player gets a hit based on hustle and moxy.
  3. 2009. And I'm not joking. Life's hard for the Red Line.

Well, now there's a healthy girl!
  5. I think it is just bad heading from downtown. The Brownline splits off before Addison so I would guess the Redline would be fine North of there. It's particularly bad in the middle of the day regardless of where you get on or off. Because the construction that's being done is centered between downtown and Wrigley, there are frequent delays both from the north and south. Since it'll be during the day, you should try and find regular street parking someplace west of Southport. It's only a couple blocks from Wrigley and you don't have to worry about the rush of people trying to exit all the lots at the same time. And you get to walk for a little bit! Get some exercise for crying out loud!
  6. I wouldn't recommend that at all. Taking the Blue Line to the Red Line takes you all the way downtown, just to head north again. And, with Red Line construction it will take longer than usual to get up north. Get off at the Blue Line Addison stop and take the bus east. It drops you off right in front of the stadium, and you're almost guaranteed to be riding with a busload of Cubs fans. The total trip should take you 45-60 minutes.
  7. This just proves that white trash is equal opportunity across the country.
  8. Probably the best move. Let Soriano rest that hamstring so it doesn't become a nagging injury and find out if Pie really can hack it in the bigs.
  9. Can we just talk about his girlfriend for a second... http://a515.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/15/l_b2d23883d31d59acd76308ddc70e5bca.jpg Hot cha cha.
  10. Could someone explain the significance of ERA+? I read the definition on baseballreference.com, but still don't get it.
  11. I'm guessing the honking red nose and giant shoes, but I've never seen the guy.
  12. As an aside, does anybody have some soundbites from Ronnie at today's game. I can only imagine his fuming.
  13. I was at the game today, and after watching the team (and I mean team, it wasn't just Zambrano gives up hits and walks) blow a 5-0 lead, the crowd deserved to release its frustration in a collective boo. I don't think it's inapporiate to show a team that disolving is a terrible way to play a game. Especially since it's been nigh on 100 years since a championship. I also wholeheartedly endorse the sarcastic cheer. I firmly believe that drove Wuertz to a perfect inning. :)
  14. I seem to remember there was a modest crowd at U.S. Cellular when the Marlins and Expos played there in 2004. Who knows? Maybe Milwaukee yearns to see American League action once more.
  15. Well. Not to badmouth Grady's Ladies, but some of those photos make me grateful for the calibre of women who show up at Wrigley. And by calibre I mean both the quality of their character and the size of their gun barrels.
  16. Whatever Reinsdorf charged would be easily and quicky recouped from the revenues from a new and improved Wrigley Field. I really don't think Soldier Field could be configured for baseball. And since Soldier Field is owned by the Chicago park district, I don't see it as a viable alternative. There was a big enough fight between the Bears and the city for the playoffs over who pays for the extra sod. I can't imagine tearing up a portion of it for a baseball diamond.
  17. And the park is now in the hands of a real estate magnate who makes money in his sleep and hates the Cubs. It ain't good. Not to mention Mayor Daley hates the Cubs, so that landmark status was disappear quicker than Adam Greenberg's major league stint.
  18. I disagree 100 percent. Living in the area, I can tell you for a fact that if they tore down Wrigley and put up condos (which would be the most likely scenario) property values would sizably increase. Single family homes in and around the area already sell for no less than $500,000; and that's with the traffic and noise that Wrigley brings in. The condos that would be built could easily be sold for anywhere from $400,000 to $600,000. The bars and other businesses that Wrigleyville are known for would take a hit during the summer, but they still do quite well for themselves in the off-season. Losing Wrigley wouldn't force many of them to close.
  19. Colangelo would have to be considered the front runner. He has the connections and has allies with current owners. Cuban would be my best choice. George Will called TLR a genius which is enough for me not to want him. I only like Cuban off that list. I like Colangelo as well, but Cuban would definitely be my #1 option. Yeah, but didn't Colangelo really hamstring the D-Backs with some bad contracts that they're now just coming out from?
  20. As long as WGN doesn't charge high fees I belive the Cubs will stay on for at least as much as they are on now. The question will be how much will WGN charge the new owner. When the Cubs were owned by the Wrigley family the cable industry was just getting started. Things are a lot different now. I do think Cub fans around the country should be prepared to have to pay to watch them when they are not on ESPN. It looks like we're okay for the forseeable future. Also, I don't see any reason why the team would jump off WGN. There are no local stations that could come close to making an offer to air the games. It isn't how much WGN is charging in fees because the ad revenue alone is worth it. In terms of the Superstation, TBS has shown that airing local market games can still happen in spite of the rise of the Internet, MLB.tv and DirecTV.
  21. Just for a little perspective, when Arte Moreno bought the Angels a few years back, he increased payroll, lowered the price of beer and overall has been a very attentive owner. The Cubs aren't likely to get Ebeneezer Scrooge as a buyer. I think the team will be fine.
  22. Whoa, whoa, whoa. It took this long for Les Walrong to be sent down to AAA? Why is he still on the roster again?
  23. "Dude, this $10 bill has seen a lot of play in the bigs and deserves to be used as often as possible. That new $20 bill still has things to learn before it can be used on a regular basis."
  24. Why should he have to apologize for running to first base. If anyone should have had to apologize it should have been Eyre for that garbage throw. Furcal was just running to the base. He doesn't HAVE to apologize, but it's just a little common decency. He's not apologizing for doing his job; he's just apologizing for the outcome. It's just polite. I know if I bump into somebody at the store, I apologize. I'm not ridden with guilt that I bumped somebody, but I want to let them know that it wasn't intentional and I meant no harm by it.
  25. QFT Not necessarily. I see more people liable to be carrying 10s and 20s than 5s and singles.
