  1. So were the Colts. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods have been on it more than a few times, too. Odd that you bring up Tiger. Sports Illustrated in 2002 did a cover story on its own curse and here is what they found: So while there is rock-solid proof that the cover curse exists, the fact that it's happened 37.2 percent of the time is something of an oddity. No that is not "rock solid" proof of anything. The rate is less than chance levels. I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, just a typo. Anyways, what would be the chance rating for this case? I don't think it was a typo Chance level is 50%. It's like someone making a prediction once a week and being right 14 weeks out of 52. Or, if someone were to bet based on the SI cover they would lose 6 bets out of 10. Golfer's aside from Tiger rarely ever win and their performance often fluctuates from week to week. It's an asinine theory made for people who believe in horoscopes and UFOs Yes, it was a typo. I was merely pointing out that there is a weird correlation that happened disaster befell cover subjects more than 1/3 of the time.
  2. Can someone please check on Karl Ravech and make sure that he isn't in the garage with the door closed and car running?

  4. Hey, the Bears were on the cover of SI right before the Super Bowl and we saw how well THAT worked out. Personally, I think it's the East Coast media trying to keep the Midwest down.
  5. And you wonder why the guy was on the verge of having a grabber! He needs to plan better so he isn't stressing himself out so much!
  6. Where's the love for Kenny Lofton?! The guy grew up in East Chicago and was a Cubs fan!
  7. Hendry and Zambrano's his agents were scheduled to meet yesterday (in person or over the phone) and again today. Representatives for Cubs pitching ace Carlos Zambrano met with general manager Jim Hendry on Sunday night in an unsuccessful effort to reach agreement on a one-year contract and avoid a potentially nasty arbitration hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The sides are expected to resume talks today as the Cubs enter the final 24 hours before what would be their first arbitration hearing since 1993 (Mark Grace). http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/263259,CST-SPT-cubnt19.article According to http://www.chicagosports.com Big Z says he's "85% signed for a one year deal". I have no idea what that means. Maybe we can get Roger Clemens to come in and address the issue of percentages since he's currently 80 percent sure he'll retire.
  8. If Marquis can come through in the clutch in a late September game akin to Estes that helps us win the division, I'll take back some of the bad thoughts I've had about him.
  9. I just saw this in today's Sun-Times: Seriously? What does this kid have to do to guarantee a rotation spot? I have to hope that this is just conjecture on the reporter's part.
  10. You need the address of Mark Shapiro, a bottle of 151, a digital camara, and a goat. Shoot, if that's all, I'm already half-way there!
  11. How do we convince Cleveland to trade Pie + Weurtz + Ohman for Grady Sizemore? :)
  12. Kerry Wood injured. Sun rise, sun set.
  13. Not for nothing, but Rob Neyerdescribes Grady Sizemore as the best overall player in the MLB. And compares him favorably to Duke Snider.
  14. Slap a saddle on that horsey and ride him hard. Well, that painted an uncomfortable image in my head. . .
  15. Am I the only one who immediately thinks of Seinfeld episode where George starts talking about himself in the third person every time an athlete pulls this? George is getting angry!
  16. Andy always reminded me of Skip Graperis from Major League. "Ball hit. . . caught."
  17. I understand the lighthearted nature of the promotion, and on their face, they're harmless. However, Cubs fans in particular are seen as "who cares about the game as long as the beer is flowing." This does nothing to change that stereotype.
  18. Thats a pretty ridiculous comment. In so many ways. It most certainly is not. This is the type of po-dunk, two horse town stuff you would see relating to a minor league team, not a major league franchise. And name one other pro sports franchise where this sort of thing would happen. Even though the Red Sox and White Sox had streaks approaching 100 years, they didn't go down the road of bringing goats to the ballpark, blowing up a baseball(!!) and now trying to get a seance-type dinner for one of the most obscure "curses" I've ever heard of.
  19. God bless the restaurant for having some brilliant marketing schemes, but this is getting ridiculous. What's next? Blowing up the corpse of Frank Chance while toasting a black cat that crossed Ron Santo's prosthetic legs? When people think of Chicago as an uncultured and prototypical Midwestern city, this should be a leading example. You would never see this sort of thing in any other major sports city in America.
  20. I think the only right answer is Edward K from Indianapolis.
  21. Not that I don't love accusing the Cardinals of juicing, but is there any evidence of Cardinals pitchers breaking down in a steroid-suspicious manner, or for that matter, completely falling apart after leaving the team?
  22. I had to vote for Walton simply because of his commentary during the Jordan-era NBA Finals. If you listened to him, you seriously would have thought that Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan not only killed his dog, but had carnal relations with the corpse, set it ablaze, brought the dog back to life and killed it all over again. Sometimes hippies should stay in the 60s.
  23. Unless your girlfriend isn't telling you something. . .
  24. Has anyone heard from Steve Stone recently. . .
  25. Looks like the Rockies may be headed out east. Offense hasn't been the Red Sox problem in recent years, but I can't imagine any pitcher looking forward to facing Helton/Manny/Big Papi/Drew.
