  1. While I would not want Frank Robinson to have anything to do with the Cubs organization, this would not have anything to do with why. There's no crying! There's no crying in baseball! http://i.rollingstone.com/assets/rs/95/72865/images/00099308.jpg So by that rationale, you wouldn't want Jim Leyland either? Or Joe Torre?
  2. It was put on hold due to rising construction costs. There's no timetable for its completion.
  3. Two words: Toilet Paper. That would be cruel to the toilet. Not to mention your hindquarters.
  4. If Rogers' was serious that the Cubs should consider this guy for the manager position, why would the Tribune run this picture on the front page of the sports section: http://www.chicagotribune.com/includes/printedition/09-28-06_CTC_SPT_240w_433h.gif Yes, that's our potential new manager holding a fish on the field. Kind of a mixed message, no?
  5. It's like the Alzheimer's patient that has a sudden moment of lucidity. It makes you yearn for more of it.
  6. I believe Prior was last seen huddled on a grassy knoll.
  7. It would certainly help with the Cubs inability to score!
  8. Problem with the Cubs is it's a country club for the players. Players have no accountability...If they win? BONUS! If they lose? WE STILL HAVE FUN! I really think you're making too much of this. Rookie hazing happens on every team in the majors regardless of record. I don't think you can use this as an example of no player accountability.
  9. He's only been on two teams in the past three years. It just seems like more because he always comes up in mid-season trade talks. I think he'd be a solid pick-up for the Cubs and a good placeholder until EPatt is ready to come up. I wouldn't mind a 2-year deal for him. Of course, the irony of his career is that he's a right-handed Todd Walker.
  10. I guess I should come out in the open with it finally. I've been having a torrid affair with Yosh Kawano. It's torn the clubhouse apart.
  11. See discussion in progress: http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=34584
  12. yeah, Baker wants 9 Pierre's on his team and 5 Rusch's in his rotation. World Series here we come!
  13. From things that I've read, the Red Sox are complacent with him staying on the roster at his current price. With Ramirez, they have one of the most potent 3-4 combos of all time. For a team that has to stay in contention with the Yankees, I can't see them trading a key piece of their offense. However, if this were 2004 and knowing now what we do about our pitching situation, I would easily do a Prior for Ramirez swap while picking up 3/4 of his salary.
  14. :D :)  :x
  15. It's clear he's thumbs his nose at Cubs fans who actually care about the future of the team. I understand if you don't like the team you're covering as a reporter, but don't patronize us with crap articles like this. It's insulting.
  16. Not to derail what promises to be an interesting thread, but I just want to compare the high quality of actual reporting and analysis that Bruce does to his competition from the Trib, everyone's favorite Paul Sullivan: 10 Steps to Change Cubs karma We should all be thankful that someone is actually taking the Cubs to task.
  17. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2597721 The Twins and A's are both going to the playoffs this year. Try another lame excuse. The Cubs will be sitting at home with their $95+ million payroll this October with the worst record in the NL. Try again Petey.
  18. Since it's an MLB-sponsored board, it's very loosely moderated. Anything bad usually has to be brought to the mods attention before action is taken. As it stands, I went over for a look and never felt dirtier. These are the types of amoral mouthbreathers that give rational Sox fans a bad name. Besides their rants against all things Muslim, here is a quote from a thread entitled "CUBS TROLLS" (all caps not mine): It's things like this that make me even more grateful for the community that's been set up for us here. A safe haven in the sea of rank stupidity.
  19. Eeek. Cautiously optimistic? That doesn't sound very re-assuring at all. If we lose Aramis to the Dodgers I will go a little mad. That would mean we lost Furcal, Aramis, Nomar and the 2006 D-Lee to the same team. Could the grudge Ned Colleti have against the organization really be that deep?
  20. It would be a shame for baseball if the Yankees fans and clubhouse sabotage the career of one of the greatest players of a generation. He should be traded to the Cubs and do it himself. :P
  21. pictures pleez? http://www.durmitorcg.com/pictures/daily_images/archive/13-08-2004.jpg    :D
  22. I remember taking the tour of Wrigley Field that Cubs Care puts on each year. In both clubhouses, there's a stand-up cooler (like you would see at a convenience store) full of beer. Miller, Budweiser, I believe even Coors was in there. And I mean stocked full! Maybe that's the reason Jacques boots throws into the ground. He'll have a couple before the game and in-between innings.
  23. I agree too. Just given a cursory look at the former number 1 picks of the past 30 years or so, the only names that truly became overwhelming forces in the majors are Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey and Chipper Jones. Everyone else was either serviceable or not a factor at all. Given the development time of baseball, the draft is a real crapshoot. Remember Albert Pujols wasn't picked until the 13th round in 1999. The number one pick? Josh Hamilton.
