  1. Kris Benson should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Seriously, with that wife of his, he might. Benson is like a Gil Meche without the upside. He stinks, and he's far from a lock to be a 200 innings guy. He's okay for a back of the rotation guy on a team with a great lineup. Unfortunately, Hendry probably thinks he has a great lineup, which he doesn't. I can't see Hendry trading Jones until he has a replacement lined up. No matter what we think of him, Hendry thinks of Jones as a big cog in our lineup and would part with him for a pitcher like Benson. At least, I hope not.
  2. Assuming for a second that what you said actually makes sense, what the hell does it mean? Hendry appears willing and ready to go out and pick up as much trash as possible. The first drop in the bag being DeRosa. Man, are you always this negative? You ready to eat SERIOUS crow if DeRosa puts up good #'s next year? Dude! He screen name is "DISGRUNTLED Cubs fan" not "I love everything Cubs fan." :D
  3. So if Piniella wins the World Series this year with the Cubs, do you think it's automatic that he wins Manager of the Year?
  4. I can't remember where I read something along those lines (Sun-Times or Tribune), but DeRosa attributes his changed approach to Rudy Jaramillo. Here's hoping he doesn't fall into bad habits with no one to being him out of it.
  5. Even though the Red Sox have made him an offer, I doubt that he accepts it so soon after filing free agency. Unless it's overwhelming, I think it will do nothing but set the bar for his expected contract.
  6. Conveniently both his free agent contract years. So did he conveniently get plunked last year? Interpret as you wish, this guy can turn it on or off like a light switch. He's that talented. I don't believe in clutch, but this guy's as non-clutch as ARod's portrayed to be. His knees are damaged goods. I don't see him even coming close to 3/4 of a season if he plays centerfield. I think the reason he wants to play CF is because it's easier on the body. I don't understand that. In theory, CF cover more ground than a corner spot. Is it because more balls are hit to LF and RF as opposed to CF?
  7. That's the same thing from last night, and it's still Sullivan. My bad, didn't see it. No sweat, it wasn't released until late last night. Re-reading the post, my tone was too harsh. Stupid Sullivan. When in doubt, blame Sullivan. He's usually at fault any way. :)

  9. Andre Dawson had hit a liner into the outfield and the best Harry could muster was, "There's a man! Running the bases!"
  10. A quote from that NY Post article: Wow. The potential for a Frank Thomas/Gary Sheffield clubhouse in Oakland has the makings for a great episode of Dr. Phil.
  11. Check out this siteon cubs.com.
  12. Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Southern Illinois (like every good Chicagoan) :D .
  13. She must be out to win the Sox vote. [snarky South Side comment] Too bad none of those potential voters can read. [/snarky South Side comment]
  14. -cough- Chan Ho Park -cough- And before anyone says anything, I realize that Chan Ho Park wasn't very good to begin with, but if I'm Hicks I'm reticent for any big price pitchers who have yet to prove themselves in the MLB. What? I'm struggling to figure out any connection whatsoever between Chan Ho Park and Daisuke Matsuzaka other than being Asian. Park is not Japanese, and thereby was never posted. He had pitched for the Dodgers for eight years before signing with teh Rangers. And finally, he had put together good to very good seasons in four of the previous five seasons. So "not very good to begin with" is wrong, "yet to prove themselves in the MLB" is wrong, and pretty much any correlation with Matsuzaka is nonexistent. It had more to do with Hicks getting burned by a pitcher after signing him to a huge deal. Take it easy. I'm sorry that I got you all riled up.

  16. My hope is that Hendry overpays for Ramirez, but a lot factors into whether he wants to return or not. Should Ramirez go elsewhere, Hendry would have to overpay for anyone to fill that gap. Not only because he would have to in this market, but because any suitors would clearly see that the Cubs would be in desperate need for offense.
  17. If it's one thing that the Tigers have shown us, it's that if you overpay a player, they will come to you. With the potential of A-Ram off the books, as well as the Tribune kicking up the payroll and several other chunks of change from departing players, Hendry has the opportunity to overpay for talent. Given the dire straits the Cubs are in (if or when Ramirez leaves), that's the only recourse Hendry has. As you say, the Cubs don't have the minor league talent for trades, but they do have baskets of money at their disposal. I think the important thing to keep in mind is, will Hendry overpay for the RIGHT players. In that instance, I don't think he's the best judge. He's shown the ability to pay who he wants what it will take, but
  18. Funny, I was going to say the same thing about Rick Morrisey.
  19. Says the man who protested Julian Tavarez's pine tar-infested cap last year.
  20. Is it wrong that initially read that as Sinestro? Can we deem Sweet Lou's staff as the Legion of Doom?
  21. Yeah, Cabrera is already as good as ARod, and there is likely to get better soon. If the Yanks trade ARod and get Cabrera, that's genius. If they get Cabrera and Willis, that's outright thievery. And if they need a third team to provide the prospects, the Cubs probably wouldn't be able to participate. I mean, the Marlins already have three of our better prospects. You can't get blood from a stone. That also would necessitate A-Rod waiving his no-trade clause unless they plan to play Cabrera in right and drop Sheffield.
  22. Jason Stark said this morning on Mike & Mike that the Girardi interview went very well and "allayed any fears" the Cubs had about the Florida situation. However, he also said that the Cubs are very intrigued with Piniella, and that it's his job of choice. I think it's still Piniella in the lead. The paper this morning said that Piniella didn't get the grand tour that Girardi did. For what it's worth. Not to poke a hole in anyone's balloon, but Piniella may not have received the grand tour because he didn't have the time because of his broadcasting schedule. Girardi's unemployed and is friends with a great many people in the Cubs organization. He may have just been making his rounds with time on his hands.
  23. Now that's a time change I could get behind!
  24. Money which could be used to make the team better or make the game experience better for the fan. When it comes to rosters, fans complain that there isn't enough money being spent on players. When it comes to advertising/sponsorship, fans complain that baseball is too much of a business. Major League teams are not non-profit organizations. If they can do something like this to make a little money and not negatively impact the fans, so be it. You know, I don't think I'm able to articulate my point clearly enough, so I'm going to bow out. Everyone brings up good points, but I just can't find the right words to clarify mine. And I'm a PR guy. This doesn't bode well.
