I think that it could be a combination of Murton slumping as well as the coaching staff. If Murton starts to slump, the coaching staff would probably offer suggestions on how to break out of the slump. Apparently those suggestions aren't working yet. Hopefully he'll break out of it.
Absolutely not on Howry and Marshall. They are both solid pitchers and two of the few bright spots on the team this year. Pierre is one thing since he'll be gone after this year if we don't want him back so if we can get something for him then why not.
If he was a Cub, yes. But since he isn't he will go on to a multiple Cy Young career. And that's why I'm worried about Wood. I just feel that if we keep him, he'll continue to have arm issues and the Cubs will have wasted money but if we let him go then all of a sudden his arm problems will stop and he'll win a Cy or two.
I'd rather see a DLee that hits like Neifi Perez than Neifi Perez himself. At least Lee would have a chance of improving. That's true but it would still be hard to watch for a little while if he was hitting like Neifi.
Well if he gets the cast off May 31 that gives him 9 days to rehab before June 10. It depends on when he gets the cast off I guess. I hope he makes his goal but I want to see a DLee that can actually hit a ball not a DLee that hits like Neifi Perez.
Had to chime in on this. That plan is a no no. Prior ok we are going to keep him but we dont' rely on him. Miller is well known to have "arms flailing" mechanics. Guzman you don't count on as anything more than a #5, and he still has to prove that this year, which he has not as of yet. Z, (#2 pitcher signing), Maddux, Marshall, Prior (then you use those other guys when Prior is not ready to pitch) I'm agreeing with you on the point but I love how you put "when Prior is ready to pitch." This is what we've come to. We just assume he's going to get hurt.
Well...I'm not sure. They're both horrible. Lima 2006: 0-3, 14.1 IP, 14 ER, 8.79 ERA, 1.81 WHIP Rusch 2006: 1-5, 32 IP, 26 ER, 7.31 ERA, 1.56 WHIP This following a year in which Lima was 5-16 with a 6.99 ERA.
As opposed to what? Wishing he wouldn't come back healthy and pitch well? As opposed to having him just leave without the Cubs being able to at least try to get something for him. If he pitches poorly he hurts us because the Cubs will lose and nobody will want to trade for him.
I think Wood and Maddux coming off the books will make us the favorites to get Lee. Would you offer 4/40 for him? Not so fast about Maddux coming off the books. When we lose Wood, we might want to keep a 12-14 game winner in the 4th or 5th position. We'll have Z, Prior, Marshall and ....... I agree. I think whether or not we resign Maddux should depend on both how he does this year - namely towards the end of the year - and how much money he asks for. As for Jacque, I think pretty much everybody can agree that he should be platooned regardless of what position he plays so he doesn't have to face lefties.
mabry shouldn't have been punished at all. if you think of it in terms of a players contribution soccer, it makes sense. while a pitcher only pitches every fifth day, that means missing two starts as bad as a position player missing 10 games (ie they each miss about 1/16 of their playing time). I should have clarified my first point. I was only referring to Barrett, whose suspension I agree with. Mabry's I don't agree with unless Anderson gets suspended as well. But you should either suspend both Mabry and Anderson or neither of the two. But it isn't fair to only suspend one.
I think the reason for it was because it didn't seem like Pierzynski wanted to fight. With other fights, like the Farnsworth-Wilson, both participents usually jaw at each other before fighting. But this is what I don't understand about MLB suspensions. They don't seem to realize that suspensions mean different things depending on whether are you a starter, reliever, or position player. A 10 game suspension for Barrett should theoretically mean 20-25 for a reliever and 50 for a starter. But it never works out that way. MLB just hands out general suspensions without factoring in the players position.
I almost wish that Wood would come back healthy and pitches well for a little while so we can try to trade him before the deadline and at least get something for him.
If anyone else had hit that ball, the though of a home run would have crossed my mind. But I knew it was Pierre so I knew it was going to be a harmless fly out. Let's go Ronny. Give us some insurance.
