  1. Thank goodness this game is on WGN so I don't have to watch on MLB.TV and have to worry about my wireless internet connection going out.
  2. At least somebody agrees with me.
  3. If you want to go way back to trades of veterens for young players, the Cubs wouldn't have ever had Sammy Sosa who they received in exchange for George Bell. Teams make trades like this all the time.
  4. FYI, you don't need the "'s" you used. It makes "apostrophe" possessive, not plural. FYI. Technically shouldn't I have written "apostrophes" without the apostrophe? Anyway, thanks for correcting me. I was seriously considering taking the letter off the board, thoroughly editing it, and putting it back up. Also, I'm an engineer so I'm still learning all of the finer points of the English language.
  5. I'm sure we could get Tom Goodwin to come out of retirement as well. Anyone know what Randall Simon is doing these days? EDIT: How about Doug Glanville?
  6. It amazes me how people in power positions can be so stupid sometimes. I'm a server/bartender at a restaurant and the vice president of our chain of 5 restaurants is an absolute idiot. He put up a notice a few weeks ago about a bartender that got fired because he was handing out free drinks. This letter had absolutely no punctuation except for periods i.e. no apostrophe's or commas. He also had numerous spelling errors or simple words like this (which he spelled thiis a couple times). After reading it I told my coworkers that an English teacher would faint after reading this email. It was astounding that a person with that much power couldn't even spell simple words right and insert basic punctuation. Then my manager spelled lemonade, liminade twice in his daily notes. How do you do this? One of my old managers left out a whole syllable of a word. To use the previous example lemonade would be lemade. Sometimes you just have to wonder.
  7. This is just not at all true. The hindsight accusation is completely bogus. Many people were up in arms about these moves long before they were made. Many said they would much rather have Burnitz for 1 year than Jones for 3. Many said they would rather have Patterson for relatively cheap than Jones or Pierre for a lot. Many said they wanted Nomar back at the cheap deal he was supposedly willing to sign. You're dead wrong on this, dead wrong. I have to agree with him on some aspects. You can't sit here and tell me that if we signed Nomar for $5-6 million and he got injured, that some people wouldn't be complaining about how it was a waste to give somebody who is always injured so much money when it could have been given to somebody else? What about when Patterson was hitting .156 with a .156 OBP on April 22...are you telling me you wouldn't be ripping Hendry for keeping Patterson? Because I think that a lot of people would be ripping Hendry. We all know that Jacque shouldn't have received a 3 year deal. But if you ignore that and just look at on the field production, who would you rather have right now, Jacque Jones or Jeromy Burnitz? Anybody that says Burnitz should be banned immediately. Hindsight is 20/20. How many people honestly though Nomar would be hitting .337 right now? I guarantee not even close to as many who predicted Nomar to start the season on the DL. It doesn't take much brain power to say Nomar should have been resigned after DLee goes down. But Nomar was going to play first base and we had a first baseman that plays every day. How many people do you think would be ripping Hendry for resigning Burnitz if he's hitting like he is right now and Jacque is hitting like he is for another team? People would be saying that the Cubs should have signed Jacque instead of Burnitz. I'm not trying to let Hendry off the hook for some of the moves because the Rusch and Perez deals were simply inexcusable. But the only thing that gets the GM off the hook is if the players he signs perform well. If they don't then he looks like a goat.
  8. I'm skipping class to see this game so Wood better pitch well.
  9. First winning streak in 3 weeks.
  10. And the replay has begun. I'm calling a 2-1 Barcalona victory. Anyone want to bet me?
  11. I think that's a correct gut even though I hope you are wrong. I mean I hope they both come back healthy, but with Prior slated to return first he will get more playing time. Trick question/statement really, self-fulfilling prophecy: Derrek Lee is a position player and will have more playing time anyway That's a good point. I actually though about that when I typed my response but decided to ignore it.
  12. Check that. 14-10. HR Brian Giles.
  13. After Juan Cruz tried to lose the game for Arizona by giving up 9 in the first inning, Arizona has come back and it's not 11-10 San Diego.
  14. All I need is a good Kerry Wood start and my prediction of a series sweep will have come true.
  15. The 4 walks allowed by Marshall was the only bad spot of the night.
  16. Juan Cruz's ERA went from 3.25 to 6.18 today.
  17. You suck Cliff Floyd. I bet the Mets wished Barrett was batting against Izzy there.
  18. how? Got caught for strike 3 on a nasty hook, and said something baaad to the ump. He got tossed within 5 seconds of the Barrett catching the pitch.
