  1. I heard the same thing. It's not really surprising. I didn't buy into the whole "no structural damage" thing. If you are experiencing pain that forces multiple starts to be pushed back and then you have to go on the DL again, something structurally has to be wrong. Good bye Kerry.
  2. Agreed. This is the right answer. But assuming Jones is in the lineup anyway, there is no reason to be bunting in the fourth inning with anybody other than the pitcher. You have over half the game left. Just let Jacque swing away especially since he has a hot bat.
  3. The Cubs have given up the eighth most runs in the NL (which puts us right in the middle of the pack), tenth most in the ML. The Cubs are also DEAD LAST in runs scored in the ML by 31 runs (35 in just the NL). While both are a problem, we need a bat more than pitching. The pitching staff hasn't been horrible considering that 33 of the 86 starts have been made by players will little to no experience. Factor in the 8 combined by Prior and Wood and 8 more by Gopher Ball this isn't too bad. Marshall will have a full year under his belt next year. Marmol is getting starts as well and will be more experienced. Hopefully Guzman and Hill can get a few more starts so we can see if they can be relied upon next year as well. Prior has been looking better even though his record doesn't reflect this. The offense on the other hand has been downright pathetic. That's all there really is to say about it. The Cubs are 15th in the NL in ERA, lead the the league in walks allowed and HR allowed, our hitting is atrocious but you have to think that if all those numbers were a little better we would be in better shape. I think it's safe to say that we are both right the hitting is horrendous and the pitching isn't that good. Agreed.
  4. So the Cards dump Ponson but pick up Weaver. Kinda seems like a wash to me. The only difference is Ponson is fat.
  5. Yes they shall. They have my vote for the first round.
  6. That makes 3 #14 seeds I have voted for so far.
  7. I like both, but I like Rage more. Rage it is.
  8. Agreed. My vote goes to CCR.
  9. That would have been among the all-time saddest things to happen to Cleveland sports if LeBron had left. They might has well just gotten rid of the team completely if LeBron left. No use playing anymore if something like that would have happened. Imagine if Jordan would have left the Bulls in the late 80's? I'm glad for Cleveland that he stayed.
  10. Watching ESPN Classic this morning reminded me of another team that has a shot at the National Championship game: West Virginia. Their only loss last year was to Virginia Tech and they more than held their own against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. They return Pat White (QB) and Steve Slaton (RB) as well as their top 2 WR's. They had a fairly young team last year. And they play in the Big East. Not saying they will, but I figured I would throw them out there since nobody has mentioned them yet.
  11. Weather? :sunny: Weather, whatever. Sunny if we win. KC won 11 out of 16. Another reason for hope. That's not a sign for hope. What good is 11/16 when you are still just 30-54? It's just a sign that any crap team can have short bursts of decent results, but they are still very likely to remain a crap team when all is said and done. I don't believe we have a crap team. What else can you call the 28th best team out of 30 in baseball, a team that has a much worse W-L percentage than a team with about an eighth of our payroll (Florida) and, if switched divisions with KC, would no doubt be 30th? Cubs are now only half a game away from the Royals. Still 3 away from Pittsburgh though.

  13. Marmol has 2 quality starts out of 5 overall starts. That's the fourth most quality starts on the team this year behind, not surprisingly, Z (13), Marshall (8), and Maddux (7). But those three have all made more starts than Marmol this year. I don't think Marmol has thrown too many pitches either. I think he should stay as long as he doesn't start to get routinely hit like Hill and Guzman did, neither of whom made a quality start this year at the ML level.
  14. Wow. Didn't realize we were that close to the Royals. Just checked the schedule and the Royals have won 4 in a row.
  15. You don't know what you've got unless you play them at the major league level. There is no better time to do this than during a lost season.
  16. Yeah, it's amazing that the Cubs finally didn't get completely shut down by a rookie. I was counting on that to happen. Capuano shut us out (which I expected) but I needed the rookie to shut us down (since it usually happens) and I figured Saturday (Dave Bush) and Sunday (Doug Davis) would be anyone's guess. We'll see how it plays out.
  17. By extrapolation Payton would have ended up with around 17200 yards. Doing the same thing for Jim Brown - 12 game schedule for his first 4 years and 14 game schedule for his last 5 - gives him around 15000 yards. As long as we are bringing up 14 game seasons, FYI O.J. theoretically would have ended up with almost 2300 yards in 1973. Just thought I would throw that one out there.
  18. Actually the low is 138 on June 23 with Cubs (Marmol) vs Twins (Santana)
  19. You get Insider if you subscribe to ESPN the magazine? Yep, you get Insider access if you subscribe. You also get a subscription if you pay for Insider access. The NBA draft and Hollinger info alone make it worthwhile for me. But I enjoy the NFL draft coverage and the more sabermetrically inclined baseball columnists too. Sweet. Thanks for the info. I'm going to sign up right now. Thank you ESPN the Magazine subscription.
  20. No posts for 16 minutes. This thread is hopping tonight.
  21. What difference would putting ARam third in the order make? None. ARam proved while Lee was out that his is incapable of carrying a team and needs another big bat in the lineup with him. The Cubs have batted Barrett behind Ramirez this year and that didn't help at all. He needs a healthy Lee in the lineup.
  22. Is he ever going to get back to being close to what he once was? This isn't going to hurt the Dodgers much because Gagne has only pitched 15.1 innings in 2005 and 2006 combined so they are used to not having him.
  23. But Dusty was on deck when Aaron hit #715. That has to mean something doesn't it? What...it doesn't?
