I don't know if they are necessarily a three loss team easily in the SEC or ACC but we wouldn't be talking about them as a national title contender if they didn't play in the Big East. I'll give you that the could lose 3+ games in another conference but if you get the right schedule (re: 2005 Alabama) and play the right teams at home, your record will look better than your team is. The opposite also applies. I think the automatic BCS invitation is more likely to get revoked for a conference that always beats up on each other. I'm not sure the exact ranking but it's something like if your conference doesn't have a team ranked above a certain spot in the BCS (12 maybe?) a couple years in a row, you could lose your invitation. For the Big East, which is likely to have a team run the table or finish with 1 loss, they aren't likely to not have a team ranked that high. With the ACC, which has shown in previous years to all beat each other, this becomes more likely.
