  1. Bruce - any chance Pagan gets some time in CF to give Pierre a day off here and there or is Dusty just using a Pagan/Murton platoon in LF? EDIT: I guess you answered that question above. Nevermind.
  2. Thanks Bruce. Not a bad lineup and I like that Murton is in there.
  3. I thought we did but apparently CubsBullsBears thinks differently.
  4. I thought Vance was in the "Hire Davey Johnson" bandwagon (I refused to shorten it, ), so if this is the "Real Vance" then he has had some flipping of the mind. Nah...he's been firmly for Dierker first, Johnson second...pretty closely for quite a while. Didn't Vance start the Dierker for manager thread as well?
  5. Hmm...where have I heard the "It's not the elbow, we swear" excuse before?
  6. I don't really mind the night games and, as has been stated already, I feel they are a necessity. I do like that they have a number of day games though because that is how I became a Cubs fan. Coming home from school and turning on the tv to watch baseball was very nice.
  7. That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is. Agreed. I find myself taking cursory glances at how Cincy is doing to see if the Cubs can draw closer. And that's just ridiculous considering how laughably bad the Cubs have been. I do the same thing. As bad as we played the first half at least the 2nd half is enjoyable. It's nice having a half of season not worrying about Prior and Wood. The status of the rest of the NL just pisses me off even more that Hendry and Baker did such a bad job. The division was there for the taking, and so was the entire league. MacPhail's absurd "contend within the division" mantra, and the quest for mediocrity that this entails could have actually done some good this season if they managed to do anything good in the offseason. As much work as the 2005 team needed to get better, it wouldn't have taken much to make this 2006 team at least .500 capable and possibly contending. I was talking about that last night with a friend of mine. All we had to do is play .500 baseball to be in it. It's a shame a team with a 95 million dollar payroll couldn't even do that, with or without DLEE. .500 baseball for the year would put the Cubs 1 game out of the wild card.
  8. I'm quite partial to the music of "When The Levee Breaks." They lyrics are good as well, but I absolutely love the beginning of the song.
  9. I cooked some sausages up for myself and one of my roommates the day after that home run.
  10. Stealing my jokes now, eh? Well I uhh...well uh... I didn't see you post that...uhh...*runs* I know I'm tall but am I really that scary? :D
  11. ARam has definately become a solid 3B. I haven't criticized his defense for a while now. It's obvious that he has worked hard to improve his defense and has succeeded in doing so.
  12. Do you realize that even if the Cubs won their next 17 straight games, it would get them to .500 and if the Dodgers and Reds played .500 baseball over that time, they would still be 2 games ahead of the Cubs in the Wild Card. The moral of the story: 9.5 games out can be deceptive.
  13. I never do the wave. Just not my thing.
  14. Sammy looked like a little kid with his celebration there. Ah the memories. Sigh.
  15. That really says something as to how pathetic the NL is.
  16. Thank you for pointing this out. I went to the top of the thread and realized that Queen defeated 4 bands I really enjoy listening to. All the more reason to vote for The Who.
  17. Well, this is really just the first thing that I've worried about with the Bears. I didn't mind the draft. I liked the Griese signing. I'm pretty confident they'll be a good team this year and can make some noice. But both RBs going down is not something to laugh off. That's true. And I'm not really laughing it off. Just refusing to stress myself over it...at least till we get a couple preseason games under our belt. I would be much more worried about the quarterback situation if I was the Bears. The defense should be solid again and I don't think both RB's should be out very long. Grossman finally staying healthy and showing what he can do is the question mark. be worried that a third fluke injury is going to happen? when they have a legitimate backup now? the Bears QB situation is better than it has been in years, perhaps decades. now you wanna talk about QB concerns, let's talk about the silver and black. Brian Griese will screw it up somehow. It will happen. As for the Raiders, I don't really mind Aaron Brooks. I have absolutely no expectations for this team whatsoever. If they play well and go 7-9 or 8-8, great, they're making strides. If they play like I expect them to and go 4-12, great, they'll get a good draft pick. And I have heard that Andrew Walter is doing well in camp. Hopefully I'll get to watch one of the preseason games so I'll get to see him play.
  18. The problem is there is a chance he'll get Guzman'd, or Cruz'd, assuming you mean, sit in the bullpen doing nothing for two weeks because the manager is more concerned with getting to 17 games under .500 instead of developing players for next year. That is what I mean. I want Mateo to pitch. If he isn't going to pitch at the ML level, send him down.
  19. As long as Mateo doesn't get Guzman'd, I'm fine with him moving to the pen.
  20. I think Hill is definitely making some strides but I would like to see a couple more solid performances before I'm going to light up the grill to cook the crow I have in my freezer.
  21. Everybody read what you wrote the first time you wrote it. That being said, you do make a good point.
