  1. Cubs will go 21-(-1) over that time. But in all seriousness, what he said. Hopefully they call also be 2-3 games ahead of the Brewers over this stretch as well. Like somebody else said, 13 games on the road with their only two home series' being the Mets and Phillies doesn't bode well for Milwaukee.
  2. I think the price tag will be too high and the O's won't want to take much of the salary.
  3. So how long before this thread gets derailed?
  4. Slumping? His power is a little down over the last couple of weeks, but I would hardly call him slumping. He's slumping because he has a .294/.318/.341/.659 line in 20 July games, with a 15/3 K/BB ratio. My prediction is that his poor strike zone judgment gets exploited just like it was last year. He deserves a shot to prove he can hit with the big league club. I'm not so sure he will do much better than he did in 2006 but he should get the chance.
  5. Minor detail but I would much prefer Fontenot over Theriot at 2B. But your point about upgrading the offense stands either way.
  6. I'm the only person to pick NLCS loss so far.
  7. I could see LA, but San Diego? I don't feel too great about seeing Peavy and Young 4 times. Seeing Penny and Lowe 4 times isn't much better. I'd rather face LA than SD in the first round.
  8. Go Reds!!! Oh, and not sure if anybody mentioned it but Greg Maddux stole a base tonight.
  9. 5000 posts makes you a 5-time All-Star and 10000 maker you a superstar. I think 250 and 1000 get you different ranks also.
  10. I will be extremely disappointed if the Cubs lose to Kip Wells.
  11. Not sure if anybody is interested or not but Santana pitched pretty well tonight against Sacramento but he was a tough-luck loser. 7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K's. He made one bad pitch in the game and got burned. Jeremy Brown (yes, him) crushed it to leftcenter for a home run which was the only run of the game. Colby Lewis pitched five perfect innings for the River Cats - he was limited to 60 pitches because he's getting stretched out after pitching out of the pen for the A's.
  12. I originally read that as "Sammy homered tonight for his 600th HR" and was about to make a joke on how you're a month behind.
  13. Some people are looking at the Cubs' remaining schedule as compared not just to the teams within the NL Central but to the teams in the NL West and East. While the Cubs are playing mainly the Reds, Pirates, Cardinals, and Astros in August and September (since they only have 3 games against the Brewers), the Dodgers will be facing the Padres, Diamondbacks, Rockies and Giants. That's a much harder schedule than what the Cubs are facing. Also, the Cubs only have three games on the road against a team with a record over .500 (Arizona) and four against a team right at .500 (Colorado). Other than that, their tough games (4 vs Philadelphia, 3 vs New York, 3 vs Milwaukee, 4 vs Los Angeles) are at home and then they play a bunch of games within the division.
  14. At least I wasn't the only one to think of GnR when I saw the title of the thread.
  15. Is there any doubt the Cubs need a bat and not a starting pitcher?
  16. Left handers should just stop pitching to the Brewers. Im being serious when saying Lilly Hill or Marshall should not face them in the next series. Let Z Marquis and Gallagher throw. I told my editor (a Giants fan) yesterday that the Brewers kill lefties and he said "well that's a guaranteed loss, Zito's pitching tomorrow".
  17. Not to mention that the winner of the division will have a good shot at HFA throughout the playoffs. The Brewers, Mets, and Dodgers/Padres are all within a half-game of each other for the best record in the league.
  18. How do the pick the winner after it's been narrowed down to 10? And, yeah, you're a lock for the top 10 if you get into the top 50. There's no way you wouldn't get enough votes from people on this site to make it.
  19. Willie Harris is 4-4 with 6 RBI's today. Coming into the game he had 12 RBI's in 180 at-bats this year.
  20. I think Jackson belongs for the sole reason that his performance in the Series was too good to suggest that he went through with throwing the Series. He was extremely illiterate and lied to by others, and I think he honestly didn't really know all the facts. Yeah, I just don't know enough about the situation to make a decision either way. I know the basics of what happened but no specifics.
  21. I went with what the majority did.
  22. Well, he tried if Valverde didn't take 10 years to throw to second and lob the ball there also.
