  1. It's too bad that MLB mandates that you use a 5-man rotation in every playoff series. What's that you say? You only need to use 4 thanks to all the off days, and Marquis as the worst one wouldn't be starting? Well, slap my ass and call me Molly! BTW, how in the living hell does Soriano's ball not get out and Chris Duncan's mile-high pop-up carry out? And how the hell is this 27-year-old career minor leaguer destroying everybody? Can I just call you Molly? You could probably get Bob Sanders to slap your ass if you really wanted. I've heard he's into that sort of thing. Just FYI.
  2. Is there a good informational book anybody has read on the Black Sox. I've seen "Eight Men Out" at the bookstore but never picked it up. Anybody read that and have any thoughts on it?
  3. http://www.retroimg.com/work/hindenburg.jpg I was going to say complete and total disappointment but I think this picture sums it up better.
  4. Yeah, but their 3rd order winning percentage places them behind the Mets, Braves, and Dodgers. What's the difference between the two?
  5. This thread is going to become a monster very quickly.
  6. Agreed with that sentiment. We'd need to be confident we could resign Adam. Quick question, is there any chance this means absolutely nothing? No callup, no trade, nothing? Because that seems hard to believe. Is there any chance? Sure, there is always a chance. However for two guys to both get pulled in the 4th inning of a game that isn't a blowout seems to point to something. I'll be shocked if this leads to a dead end. Agreed. Whether its a callup or a trade, something has to be going on.
  7. Here's a classic Premium link A total of 22 posts in a game thread!!! Ha!! I had two of them.
  8. The Bad: The Cubs didn't gain any ground today on the Brewers or Padres. The Good: The Cubs didn't lose any ground to the Brewers or Padres.
  9. We would be looking at the Fecal League Standings right now.
  10. Many people believe that managers can't have a large impact in a good way on a team but can have a large impact in a negative way on a team.
  11. yes, but a player intentionally performing poorly for money on the biggest stage is not in the vein of Pete Rose, Ty Cobb or whatever other lowlife you want to throw in there. I agree that a player's actions off the field should not be considered, unless they do something like bomb the Statue of Liberty or turn into Ted Bundy. But I'm judging Ciccotte and Jackson as not worthy for the Hall because of their actions on the field - namely, throwing games for money on the sport's biggest stage. That, to me, is inexcusable. That's a pretty ignorant statement of the facts. Look up Shoeless Joe's stats from that series. If he was throwing anything, I'd hate to see the numbers he'd put up trying. That's a pretty ignorant analysis of the facts. Look up Shoeless Joe's stats from games the Black Sox lost in that series, versus the stats in the games that they won. Night and day. Also look at the fact that he was one of the best fielders in the league, and allowed three triples in the series while playing leftfield. And not the least of all was that he accepted money with the understanding that he'd help the Black Sox lose. Game 1: 0-4 in 9-1 loss Game 2: 3-4, 2B in 4-2 loss Game 3: 2-3 in 3-0 win Game 4: 1-4, 2B in 2-0 loss Game 5: 0-4 in 5-0 loss Game 6: 2-4, RBI in 5-4 win Game 7: 2-4, 2 RBI in 4-1 win Game 8: 2-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI in 10-5 loss In 3 wins: 6-11, 3 RBI In 5 losses: 6-21, 3 2B, HR, 3 RBI I wouldn't say they're night and day. His SLG was better in the games they lost than the games they won.
  12. Ok, I work for an opera company, so I know how divas deal with this issue! 1. stop talking! 2. gargle with salt water 3. drink LOTS of ice water. It will bring down the swelling in your cords. 4. tonight before you hit the sack, steam! 5. and keep drinking the water! Good luck, Vance. Thanks for the suggestions. I've stopped talking. I'm sucking throat longenges like those things are candy. I'm drinking lots of water as well as taking some vitamins and started an anti-biotic in case it's something bacterial. I'm doing the best I can, but considering I'm going to the game tonight before driving up in the morning...I might be toast. We'll see. But again...thanks for the tips. You could pull a Dwayne in "Little Miss Sunshine" and write on a notepad.
  13. I said about a week ago that winning the division has become even more important now because it could mean home field advantage in the NL rather than just maybe having home field in the first round.
  14. Good job, Truffle. =D>
  15. That's some good stuff over there.
  16. Try telling that to the half dozen or so contending teams that are trying to add a league average starter this week, and (so far) having no luck. I think teams are looking for a huge upgrade. If the Cubs would be replacing Marshall, I think they could get similar production (not what Sean has done, but what he is likely to do the rest of the year) after the deadline. I'd think a guy like Noah Lowry could be had pretty cheaply. Lowry's not going anywhere. He's 26 and the Giants will and should be looking to the future. He's in that future.
  17. Reds take three of four from the Brewers in the series.
  18. REDS WIN!! BREWERS LOSE!!
  19. Valentin trying way too hard on those first two pitches.
  20. Good job Braun. Reds have 1st and 3rd, one out.
  21. Dunn with a leadoff double. I thought that ball was gone.
  22. I'll be able to watch part of this game before going out to dinner with my girlfriend and a couple friends. Don't let me down, Cubs.
