    First: The Dodgers already have Danys Baez, so trading for Williamson doesn't really make to much sense. Second: I'd take Dionar Navarro for Williamson, since the Dodgers seems to love this Russell Martin kid.

    Brenly or Kasper, said how much this team looks "so much different" after that bunt attempt. And I agree. This team, looks like is going to things we haven't seen in a loooonnnnggg time.

    No kidding. His catching ability is just bad. He sets up too late, he hops around before the pitch, and he has a tendency to lunge instead of block. That said, the Cubs need all the offense they can get. ----------- You are overstating Barrett's weakness. Todd Hundley was bad as a catcher, but Barrett---while he won't be confused with Hank White---is still at least serviceable.

    Let me remind you that in 2003 against the Mets in which the Cubs clobbered the Mets 15-2 on Opening Day (Corey went 4-6 w/ 2 hrs and 7 rbis, I believe). They lost to Al Leiter the next day, but on the series finale the Cubs beat Trax 6-3. So yes, the Cubs have won a "remaining game in the series after scoring 15+ runs on Opening Day." I get back from class and we're down 1, the difference being a BRONSON ARROYO home run??? We need new pitchers. The Cubs need to do a better job at pich selection. Glendon should not be re-signed (I know that was a d'uh) and Williams won't finish the yr as a Cubs. But until then, the Cubs have to find out who will step up and who needs to ship out.

    Wood is NOT a useless arm. Just so you know. Matsui has already stated he WILL only play for the Yankees and when his NY playing days are over....he will head back to Japan. And Sheffield, is a product of the steroids---alledgedly. So, I don't know how Matsui/Sheffield was even brought into this conservation. And YOU COULD MAKE A CASE that Wood is more important to the Cubs, then Matsui or Sheffield would be. Thus making that trade scenerion a stupid trade.

    Red Sox can't offer Shoppach, he went to the Indians in the Crisp trade. Coco Crisp (And the worthless Josh Bard) cost Andy Marte and Kelly Shoppach. None of those packages above are really close to being worth Cabrera. First, I thought Santos was still a D'Back, and now I though Shoppach was still a Sox. I must have hit the sauce a little too hard last night.

    :oops: D'uh, I forgot about it. And Santos is better then what some think, tho he might not be the player the D'backs thought, he will still be an solid SS player.

    Ok, you guys...you made my EYES hurt, for reading ALL 115 of Opening Day's "Special" Comedy Edtion of Game Threads. Dunn in the outfield, will Adam move to the INF be in the near future. Something about Pagan rituals and sacrifices? :-k And somebody getting a hit? :?

    I don't think that's the point. He's still better than Konerko so expect his contract to be in that neighborhood. The Cubs don't want him to become a FA and have other teams attempt to drive up the price. I'm sure some teams would be very willing to overpay so the Cubs will want to be generous without breaking the bank. The best time to do that is now. But Konerko won a world series so he's clutch or something. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Lee get a lesser contract than Konerko. So again...how does winning a World Series = clutch? I mean Konerko was solid during the playoffs, and outside of maybe Game 2 of the World Series, where he hit the Grand Slam, nobody outside of the White Sox had even heard of Konerko. The Sox pitchers were clutch.

    This is pretty interesting. Chris Young is the CF of the future, and now Stephen Drew is the man at SS. I don't really see what the master plan is here. Obviously they're going to lose somebody eventually, but I think it'd make more sense to leave Upton at SS in the immediate future as his trade value is higher there. If they end up trading Young later, he'd still have time to adjust to the new position. Their "master plan" is to put the best possible team out there for the present and the future. Chris Young is a fantastic young player, but in his prime will nowhere be the player Justin Upton can be. So when Upton is ready...Young will be moved to a team needed a bonfid CF star and net the D'backs a couple of pretty good young arms in return. That's their master plan. Upton at CF, Santos at SS, Drew at 2B, Tracy at 3rd, Jackson at 1st, Quentin at RF, Gonzalez at LF and _____at catcher, could be ONE fAntastic team in a few yrs...

    Unfortunately, I could see the White Sox offer McCarthy, Sweeney (or Aanderson) and say Josh Fields, and the Marlins be tempted. The Indians could offer Franklin Gutierrez, Ryan Garko, and another prospect or two. The Red Sox could "realisitically" offer Papelbon (or Lester), Pena, and Shoppach. So if the Marlins ever decide to trade Cabera, they'd get alot of interesting offers.

    source: MLBtraderumors.com This had better be someone's idea of April Fool's. Did anybody NOTICE that they didn't quote a source...outside of itself? No heard it from a guy I know inside the Brewers or Cubs org, no quote from a newspaper writer for either city..nothing. 80% chances this is an April Fools' Joke. A couple of questions you had to asked yourself: 1: Why would the Brewers trade their 2nd most valuable veteran hitter on the cusp of contending for the NL Central? 2: With an already underachieving bloated payroll, why would the Cubs trade three valuable CHEAP young players who could help the Cubs more then Carlos Lee would? Neither question would be answer in this trade scenerio, so this deal doesn't make sense (I rather have Lee then Soriano), so I figure this deal is close to happening. :roll:

    I don't think that is a fair assessment of Bynum, to being compare to Macias. Everybody and their mama's knew Macias WAS NOT ML caliber, and where Macias RARELY produces anything of note, I suspect that Bynum produces more often (cause of his unique ability to ACTUALLY take a walk) then Macias. So, I don't think Bynum to Macias is a fair comparasion.

    :evil: . If Ronny is going to lose the job, it might as well be to Ryan Theriot. We ALREADY know Nefti isn't a starter, and we don't need to go into the season with a significant handicapped---outside of the manager---. To me...if Cedeno is going to lose the job, I prefer the Cubs to make a trade for a SS or go with Theriot. For the love of the baseball god, please start the season on fire Ronny, or you'll never see the Diamond again with the Cub.

    That is a "what if" scenerion. Because "what if" Marshall is more then holding his own in the alloted team? Personally, I think Williams is a step out the door, and Rusch is a step closer to the pen, with Marshall making the club out of ST. I definately could see Marshall sticking with the Cubs, longer then the "short stint" some people think he has.

    Dayton Moore as GM and Orel Hershiser as manager. I'd prefer Mark Shapiro as GM and Buck Showalter as manager (at least short-term) .

    Look as I said in the first post, I didn't know how credible it was, and apparently it is as truthful as a Democrat, but I thought it would make for an interesting topic. So...WHICH prospect would you trade Pie for, specifically? I know I heard Brandon Wood. I would go... 5: Butler, Billy 4: Upton, Justin 3: Diamond, Thomas 2: Wood, Brandon 1: Young, Delmon Those would be the ONLY prospects I would trade Pie for...so who would you trade Pie for?

    I picked this tidbit off on cubs.com---I know, I know, but---and I don't know how credibility is it, but....I think it should be interesting debate. Would anybody here at least consider a Felix Pie for Howie Kendrick trade?

    I'll save my excitement for the Glenallen Hill signing. I don't know the possibility to bring Dave Hansen back, just gives me......goosebumps. (shutters)
