    Does anybody else get the feeling that the Cubs are abit demoralize after losing Lee for 2 months? I know Dusty call a team meeting to get this team refocused, but this team still seem to be very dependant on Lee, especially Ramirez. This is why the Cubs NEEDED a VOCAL LEADER. Someone who is willing to lead, and again this team is TOO quiet, when it comes to leadership.

    That's a Cubs fan talking. Pujols is a once in a generation type of player. If he doesn't have a catastrophic injury, by the time he is done he will be mentioned among the greatest hitters to ever play. He hasn't even reached his prime yet. I don't know if Pujols has reached his prime or not, and Lee undeniably had a better year last year, but PECOTA projects that Pujols will be worth 2.5 wins more than Lee this year and 15 more wins than Lee over the next five years. Straight up, I'd trade Lee for Pujols in a heartbeat. This is going to sound a bit of homerism, but I WOULDN'T trade Lee for Pujols. Derrek has become the foundation of the Cubs, the "heart and soul" of the team, and I value that immensely. Pujols isn't too bad defensively, but let's just this...Derrek is closer to Pujols in offensive abilities, then Pujols is to Derrek defensively. Albert is a great player, but I rather have the MORE complete player in Lee.

    It'd be better to have a right handed power source off of the bench. Then we would be talking about guys like....Andy Phillips, Eduardo Perez, Jeff Conine, etc, etc. But none of those "type bats" will be available till June, or July. So I think the Cubs are pretty much stuck with what they got, or bring up Sing, and hopefully a call to the majors would restart his year. Either way...I don't see the Cubs making a trade anytime soon.

    I think people are overreacting to what Clines/Sarge are saying. I also believe they meant that Murton needs to be 'selectively aggressive.' Look both Bellhorn and Choi BOTH had a problem with letting too many good pitches go, so they can "work the count". And because of this "passiveness" teams went after them and put them in a 0-2 hole before the blink of an eye, which forces the batter to alter his apprach. And that was the main reason why both Bellhorn and Choi struggled. There is nothing wrong with working the count, but if you get your pitch early in the count, be aggressive. I believe that is what Sarge/Cline meant. But Cubs fans---rightfully so---have become PARANOID when it comes to what is spew out of the coaches mouth. Again...I do believe Murton needs to be "selectively aggressive."

    I know....everybody needs to CHILL the heck down. Losing the best offensive force on the team for 2 months, is NOT a good reason to be bickering towards one another, like we are White Sox fans. We're better then that.

    I think I'd prefer trading one of those releivers to the Yankees for Pena and a mid-level prospect. Agree. I prefer NOT to give the White Sox a serviceable relieve,r for a not-so-serviceable backup 1st baseman, when we already have somebody in the system, who can do the same thing, (Hoffpauir).

    Good lineup Raw. It's probably the best lineup we could reasonably hope for with baker at the helm. If only he'd think about batting Jones 8th. Does anybody else have a concern that Aram may try and do to much and struggle without Derrek Lee?

    And we continue to see pitchers suspended for steroids. I love how all the focus in the media continues to be on Bonds and other position players, yet pitchers are just as guilty. They focus on Bonds, because of the name appeal, just like the focused on Sosa. Do I believe both dip into the steroids...no doubt. But there have been rumblings that Eric Gagne had used steroids. And with Ryan Franklin, Juan Rincon, and there was an Indian pitcher---I believe---all suspended last yr, so I don't buy into the media is looking squarely at offensive players as abusers.

    I would rather find out in April whether or not he can play so then we can figure out what to do with him. If he hits, great. If he doesn't, let him go. But this is the Cubs. It don't matter if certain players don't hit in April, they'd be kept ANYWAYS. Don't believe reread threads concerning Nefti Perez, Jose Macias, Augie Ojeda, Delino Deshields, and the list goes on. It's safe to say that Bynum stays with the Cubs past April, regardless if he hits or not. The only way he isn't on the roster after April, is if he is injuried.

    Does anybody else feel the Cubs might be better offensively---especially on the nights the Nefti starts---if Z hits 8ths, and PAY RAISE (thanx Jon Miller) hits ninth?

    I'm NOT concern about Pierre. He will be there when the Cubs need him. Don't sweat a 2 week period, in a 6 MONTH marathon. Pierre will be kicking it into high gear before you know it.

    My biggest problem during the series, wasn't Dusty's "managing", but the lack of hitting. The Reds had---I believe--- in the series. NINE. I don't care how bad a managing job Dusty performs, the fact is....he's NOT the one who's giving up the homeruns. The Cubs were playing in the same conditions, and yet they only had , against 1 back end of the rotation guy, a AAA pitcher, and a home run giver. That is UNACCEPTABLE. The Cubs need to CUT DOWN on the homeruns, if they are going to have a chance. And after the Reds Series (they are still the BEST 2nd division team in baseball)I think I can truly say, the Cubs absolutely NEED Kerry Wood and Mark Prior back and healthy.

    ?!?!?! The strange thing is.....I was hoping Barrett would homered to 1st base, but oh well...the double to SS was pretty sweet. :wink:

    To be honest, saying who is better....is a OPINION based, not actually fact. I like Ramirez, a little bit better, but I wouldn't EDMONDS it if the Cubs had Rolen.

    A-rod? :wink: Nope...Cause I still see ARod as the GAME'S best SS, except Jeter won't get off his high horse, and let the superior player have the position.

    So, indeed it was Dave Winfield's "auction" that forced the HOF to change it's criteria of which team a player will be inducted as. Boggs and Carter was the first to have the rule enforced.

    How can you say that? It's only been 7 games, and Pierre hasn't been very good in them, terrible actually. OBP and OPS don't always tell the whole story. Pierre has 6 runs and 2 RBI in 7 games. That projects to 139 runs and 46 RBI. That's 31 runs above his career high and 22 more than his best season's combination of runs and RBI. He's doing a great job of helping us score runs right now. That's the name of the game. Runs and RBI are dependent on the people around you. If he weren't hitting so terribly, or if we had someone else there that wasn't hitting terribly, we'd have more runs and RBI from that spot. Transmogrified Tiger; You see stats, and say Pierre has been terrible, I see Juan Pierre who has change how a team attacks the Cubs. Like today....Lee and Pierre did TWO double steals :shock: (When was the last time THAT happen?), and he forced Womack to hurry up his throw, which ended up being an error. Pierre is clearly having an impact, and "doing pretty solid" job so far for the Cubs. Look, normal April is when pitchers are ahead of hitters, so I am not worry, cause I know Pierre is going to start hitting, soon.

    Look, I DO NOT want ANY other 3rd base over Aramis. Look I realize that Rolen is better defensively, and you could make the case that Wright and Cabrera are better then ARam. But I don't care....ARam, IMO, is widely popular in Chicago (as is RODAN), if the Cubs traded for or sign somebody to replace at 3rd, that said player would be under pressure from the Cubs fans to match ARam production to justify losing ARam. In other words, I know this sounds a bit of homerism...but there is NOT a third baseman I would take over ARam right now. I'm not saying ARam is the best at position, but he is so darn close though.

    Anyone else starting to feel like the team pretty much has to bomb this year or Dusty is getting that extension? Dusty isn't a bad manager. So the Dusty detractors need to put their venom away. He isn't great, but he isn't terrible. Dusty makes the same amount of goofy calls a yr, as say LaRussa, Cox, Sciossa, etc, etc. The problem with Baker is that he is an "underdog" type manager. His teams do better when they are the underdogs. 2002 Giants and 2003 Cubs DIFFERENTLY fit that mold. Dusty doesn't handle expectations well. So, I do believe---win or lose---this should be Dusty's last yr in Chicago. I think he would be absolutely perfect in Seattle or another underachieving franchise.
