  1. Ok....so let me get this straight.....this thread had the following: 1: Mandates (just to eeky to even think about) 2: ill-fated fake rumors 3: Public execution 4: Following by a rebirth with the scarlett A esque type move. Yep, we're talking about the Cubs alright.
  2. I heard from a friend, who heard it from a friend that there was a big rumor making the rounds. The voice in the head said it would blow people's minds on how big the rumor is. When questioned about the rumor from a reporter, the voice said, "I can't speculate on the rumor, but suffice to say...the rumor is pretty juicy." When pressed about the rumor, the person "the voice" belongs to say....(blows raspberry). By right now...the rumor is just a rumor, until it is started fact. Will bring you more info on this rumor as we get. This is Sarah Gossip, sending it back to you...Joe Speculation, and Janet Story. The rumor now stated as fact is...Dusty Baker promised to lead by exam.......promised to be a manager, and not the best friend to every ballplayer.
  3. Most people know, I'm not really a Dunn fan, but...it seems to me...Hendry REALLY wants to add a LH RF to the Cubs lineup. My guess is that he will look into Dunn, Abreu, Huff (no thank you), Wilkerson, Junior (prolly moreso then Dunn because he can....you know...catch the ball), etc... My only hesitation is CF, who would play CF if Pie and/or Patterson were dealt? The Cubs don't have another long-term answer (and no I don't consider Greenberg, Fuld, Bacon, Walker long-term answers) CF in the organization. So I would hold off trading Pie for a stud RF, unless the Cubs have a plan to acquire a young long-term CF.
  4. Agreed. Not only that, but taking on a big contract for Abreu or maybe Griffey would be no big deal with that much to spend. I begining to get more interested in Bobby Abreu. I would say....Prior/Z/Pie/Guzman/Murton is off-limits...but I'd offer just about anybody for Abreu.
  5. Only on MVP Baseball. Otherwise, he prolly bring what people thought Corey could be in a worst case scenerio and that is .260/.320 15-20hr/75-90rbis. He wouldn't necessarily be a BAD 6th place hitter, but rather see if a beter LH hitter can be hand thru trade.
  6. Get this people....not if paying Furcal $13 mill per isn't insanity....but they ARE ACTUALLY considering signing Mueller to play 1st base. man the insanity just doesn't stop in LA. What's next....sign Kobe Bryant to play LF?
  7. ERA by Catcher: Molina: 3.39 (111 games) Mahoney: 3.56 (21 games) Diaz: 3.76 (30 games) It doesn't look like it to me. Considering that LAST YR (2005) was his FIRST full season as the Cards starter, and still adjusting to certain pitchers, pitches...I say that is dang fine. And he is expected to get better. Why else do you think the Cards let Matheny go? Because they feel...Molina is Matheny with a better offensive game.
  8. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp He may have wrote and turned this in before the breaking news of Furcal signing with the Dodgers, BUT what if latimes....jumped the gun on Furcal, (just like that ny station with Maddux, and the Arizona station with Pudge? I maybe in denial--of course, I am in denial)? He prolly signed....BUT
  9. I didn't say "superior", I say one of the "best catchers in the game." You saw how the pitching staff went through a rough stretch when MolinA was out? He was actually the one key player the Cards ill-afford to lose.
  10. The Cards are close to signing AJ Burnett, and have talked to the Reds about Kearns and Pena. I think AJ Burnett will be a bargain for the Cards. I know he is going to get "good money for mediocre numbers", but let's face it....he's got Yadier Molina (one of the best catchers in baseball, game-call, and defensively) behind the plate, and he could be wearing a Cardinal across the chest. Possibly getting him signed for 10 mill a yr, will be a bargain for the Cards (if they do actually sign Burnett) within 2 yrs. St. Louis Dispatch(via Rotoworld), is where I got the info..
  11. First:  Second: I'm not alone in the sentiment but, as much as I wanted Furcal, there is NO WAY I would have gone close to $13 mill a yr for Furcal. Ned Colletti must be an alias of Kevin "Sherriff" Malone, because this is without question the dumbest contract since Mike Hampton. Third: Can anyone say.....hell Mr. Soriano, hello Mr. Mench. Fourth: Anybody who thinks this now gives Cedeno to opportunity to start and get the majority of playing time, must be forgetting who the manager is. I can see it now...in case the Cubs fail to land a SS, I could see Baker saying "It will be an open competition for the starting SS job between Perez---the dude, saved us last yr---and the young dude. " But we all know...there won't be a "legit" open competition. If the Cubs don't Dustyproof before the yr starts, then we know who will start at SS in 2006, and I'm afraid it will Pay Raise.
  12. Yeah, it tells us that teams don't view Nomar as a SS, anymore. RF with the Indians, 1B with the Orioles 3B with the Dodgers or Pirates DH with the Twins/A's CF with the D'backs/Red Sox. And while most of the teams have an established SS, the ONLY team that doesn't---the Twins---want him as a DH. That tells you what GM's around think about Nomar's chances at staying at SS.
  13. The Braves could have any one of the following at SS in the future: Wilson Betemit Yunel Escobar---Top SS prospect Tony Pena, Jr Mauel Rodriguez The Dodgers could have any one of the following at SS in the future: Jesus Soto Shane Justis Chin-lung Hu Tony Abreu Joel Guzman---Top SS prospect -------------------------------- The Cubs---outside of Ronnie Cedeno---have no SS of the future, no SS that could challenge Furcal within 2 yrs, if not the duration of the rumored 5 yr deal. So that's is appealing, knowing he would be the SS for the Cubs without question, and without a legit contender. The Braves and the Dodgers have legit SS depth, and it's likely Furcal doesn't finish out his contract if he went to Atl, or LA. So...imo, I think Furcal takes the Cubs offer, because no stiff competition for SS, and because of the yrs.
  14. Yeah. My guess they meant to say "Twins" but wrote "Cubs" instead but still :-k how you can confuse the Cubs and the Twins.
  15. The Mets are targeting Mark Grudzielanek as an upgrade over Kaz Matsui at second base, sources told the Daily News. The Cardinals are still hoping to keep Grudzielanek, who has also received interest from the Royals and Red Sox. Dec. 3 - 4:45 am etSource: New York Daily News :-k
  16. The Bartman Saga changed that forever. Stop with the Bartman. It's Agony that I want to burn in effigy. I hear an Agone, and a Baker, and a RAISE you Mo Alou, who I want to "burn in effigy." He doesn't throw a temper tantrum...goes without saying.
  17. Hence the reason why...Huff won't be mention as a possible target for the Cubs. I'm not all that high on Huff ( :-k ), cause he is an AL player...ie DH. Hendry wants "guys who can catch the ball", and Huff couldn't catch a cold, much less a baseball.
  18. From what I've heard, Girardi wants the Marlins to KEEP LaDuca, so that he can help the incredibly young pitching staff keep it together. So, I doubt LaDuca will be dealt, unless it is an offe that blows their minds.
  19. Come on, Hendry at least make a good offer. And the bad news:
  20. The Walker for Bradley trade rumor: I believe it would be a preemptive strike by Hendry. Because Milton Bradley---even with his anger problems---would still be a intriguing possibility as a FA. Hendry would elimante a possible bidding war, by trading for Bradley, instead od waiting, and maybe not getting Bradley idf he becomes a FA. So, I would SERIOUSLY consider---if not do---a Walker for Bradley. The Patterson for Bradley trade rumor: Is there any more of a perfect situation for Corey, then LA? LA maybe a MAJOR market, but it is prolly the most laid-back city in America, and that would suit well with Corey's personality. But I think the Dodgers would want more then Corey for Bradley. They may want an arm like Novoa, Mitre, Williams, etc. If that is the case, I'd still do it. All-in-all, I would love to get Bradley on the Cubs. I think Baker's "player's manager" rep would finally be put in use.
  21. That is centering around Javier Vazquez and Brad Wilkerson. I know, it doens't mention the Cubs name, and even tho, I'm not really that high on Wilkerson (wouldn't lose sleep over possibly getting him) couldn't the Cubs get in contact with both teams, and make something happen?
