I agree Tim. I don't know for how long Wright will be at 3rd though, but I'd say for the next five years he will be near the top. But his long- long term future is at 1st. So, this maybe abit basis, but I'd take Ramirez over Rolen because ARam is so much tougher to pitch to then Rolen. But, I'd take Wright and Cabrera over ARam, ever-so-slightly.

How can anyone ask this question seriously? Cabrera is the next big superstar of this league. Actually, with the numbers he has put up in his first 2.5 years, he already is one at the young age of 22. How do you know that Murton isn't going to be a superstar as well? As for Cabrera being 22, we have seen with Latin American players that what they claim their age to be isn't always true (re: Rafael Furcal). Murton is only 24, 25 in October and Cabrera is about to turn 23. There's not really much of a comparison between the two players. Cabrera is already vastly superior. If you have a chance to get him, do it. My point is that we don't even know what Murton can do over a full season yet. If he ends up being a step below Cabrera offensively, then there is no point in getting Cabrera for just a small upgrade. I don't see how you can fessibly compare Murton and Cabrera. I love "The Red Ghost" as much as anybody, but his likely "average" statline, would be a "down yr" for Cabrera. Look this is Cabrera's career numbers of BA/OBP/SLG/OPS 299 .365 .523 .888, now I could see Murton hit slightly better, reach base about the same, but I don't SEE Murton slugging as well as Cabrera. I see Murton as a low .800 (to low .900 slg in a career yr) OPS kind of player in his prime. Which to me...means Murton is likekly to be a 22-23 type homerun power with 30 doubles. Cabrera in his career has average 33 doubles and 26 homeruns a yr, and his numbers are still GOING UP. I like Murton, but if the Marlins want him in a deal for Cabrera, I would do it in a heartbeat. Cause Murton is a complimentary player, while Cabrera is an IMPACT player. Nonetheless, I am glad to have "The Red Ghost." If you are going to trade Murton then yes. But I don't want to give up some of our good young arms to get Cabrera (re: Dontrelle Willis). If we can get a good deal for him then by all means go for it. But based on the fact that (since I found this out recently and if I'm wrong please correct me) Cabrera isn't going to leave via free agency after the year so I'm assuming the Marlins are going to want to get a good deal for him. Not to be argumentative, but HOW ELSE are you going to get Cabrera? You expect to Miggy for pitchers like Pinto/Nolasco/Welly type ability? Of course not...Obviously you would have to part with a Marshall or a Guzman type talented youngster to get Cabera, and IMO, it's worth it.

There is a "angle" that hasn't been talked about.... I think this contract pretty much gurantees (barring some unforeseen problems) that ARam will be back with the Cubs. The reason...few teams have a 1-2 that has as great of "on the field" chemistry as Lee/ARam (perhaps Ortiz/Ramirez maybe Jenkins/Lee), so either ARam keeps his option, or opts out and signs a new contract, one way or another...I believe the Cubs have their 1st/3rd basemen's for the next 4-5 yrs.

I wouldn't deal Dopirak in your "sooner" part of the equation. I would hold onto him thi yr, cause now Dopirak has to audition for a job with another team. This is where Hendry has to be patient, and wait for Dopirak's "value" to be at his highest.

Considering the fact he's Canadian, but dressed up as "Captain AMERICA" at the least hallloween, I would say so.

Look, everybody SHOULD know by know what Barrett brings to the table. Above average production at a position that is dominated by "defensive p;ayers." I would not trade Barrett for any "great defensive catcher who can't hit". I'm tired of players like Sandy Martinez, Paul Bako, etc, and the Cubs finally got a catcher who actually produces, and is not an "automatic out." Look, Barrett is no gold glover, BUT, he isn't that bad defensively that the Cubs should consider taking his bat out of the lineup. Barrett SHOUJLD be an All-Star this yr, and IMO, is the best offensive catcher in the NL.

The Cubs won't go after Abreu, simply because going after Bobby would ultimately mean the Cubs felt they made a mistake by signing Jones. For the ups and down, I don't see the Cubs moving Jones (at least not in the first yr of the deal), and I differently don't see Hendry admitting he made a mistake by signing Jones, until after the 2007 season or 2nd yr of the deal. I don't see the Cubs making any SIGNIFICANT move by the deadline. And the only deal I could see getting done, would be getting a RH POP off the bench. But Abreu is all but a pipedream right now.

To get into Sidney "The Brisket basket" Ponson head, I think the Cubs should play "Eat it" by Wierd Al Yankovic.

That is music to my ears. The less comfortable a player is at Wrigley Field, the less they will performed at their best. Don't fell bad, the Cbs would do it TO EVERY TEAM that plays at Wrigley this yr, so St. Louis isn't singled out. EVERY TEAM has "dirty little secrets" that they use on opposing teams. That is not just a Cubs thing.

The Giants also have Armando Benitez due back from the DL as soon as he's eligible, so I'd imagine they'd wait to begin evaluating their pen until after he's back and throwing in the 9th. The Braves have no such closer waiting in the wings, except for Devine, as you said, but with the way he's pitched so far in the bigs, both in his time last year, and this year, I'd worry about him as a closer. But considering that since Benitez signed with the Giants, he has become "fragile" as a closer. I agree, they will evaluate their club first (possibly bringing up Merkin Valdez up, etc) but it wouldn't surprise me, if the Giants would be interested in Williamson.

I'm not convince about the Brewers. Yes, they are 5-0, but in every game they HAD to come back to win. Playing "cardiac kids" is not a good way to win. There are some intriguing talent on that team (*Turnbow, OMG, what a friggin' stud) but I do think Brewers ultimately will falter, and finish behind the Cardinals and the Astros, as those two teams will finish behind the Cubs. Question: What WERE the Angels (or for that matter Philadelphia) thinking by letting Turnbow go?

With that way the Giants bullpen gave up a 8 run inning to the Braves, I suspect they MAY become more interested in Williamson then the Braves. At least in ATL, they have Joey Devine that THEY might turn to as closer, before they look outside of the org.

This is a same organization that has stoood behind: 1: LaRussa accusing the Cubs (and for that matter the Red Sox) of stealing signs. 2: Matt Morris---back in 2003---would rather "lay down" against the Astros, instead of watching the Cubs win the division. 3: Steve Kline making that statement that he "wished" Mark Prior would take a line drive off the forehead, and never pitched again. So I wouldn't take what Edmonds said seriously. Besides, I think we learned something tonight, APPARENTLY Edmonds needs hot water to help keep his makeup on, or he is a grinch in the morning.

What's the story behind it? I'm not sure of the details, however, Ned Colleti worked for the Cubs for 12 years then worked for the Giants. I believe he had a run in of sorts with Baker while there. Now that he is with the Dodgers, he seemingly doesn't want to work with, or deal with the Cubs. I'm sure someone else can fill you in better. That makes sense. Kinda makes you wonder if Colletti offered ridculous money to Furcal just to stick it to us. Giving a underachieving SS $13 mill a yr for 3 yrs, again that'll the Cubs. Glad LA got the "Idiot" Colletti, cause IMO, Ned has no ability to run an organization. And seeing as the Dodgers don't really have a plan for their franchise, they are a match.

IF I was a Reds fan, I would be hoping that this means Womack is heading to the unemployment line. Seeing as Freel/Aurilla/Phillips can ALL play 2B/SS and Phillps/Freel would still provide speed. To be honest...Womack simply doesn't have a spot on the Reds, now.
