  1. That is true, but I also think, Hendry may allow---since he pick up the option---Walker to have a say where he wants to go. I didn't say Walker would have a final word, just a say as to where he would be interested in going. And I am assuming, that Walker will either want to play for Texas (since he ALMOST sign with them last yr) or simply a contender.
  2. First:  ON AJ Burnett. I had heard rumors that the Cubs might be interested, but not interested enough to go after. But I don't know if I can take two Kerry Wood's on one team, tho. Second: I think we can all forget about Brian Giles. It will be either the Angels (home, a contender) or the Cards. I don't see the Cubs be a big part of the sweepstakes, hence the increase interests of Furcal and Burnett.
  3. Ultimately, I think the people who don't want Furcal will be disappointing, cause I believe Furcal will end up a Cubs, simply because Hendry has his eyes target on him, and unless the Mets GROSSLY overpay him to move to 2B (which they may be hesitant to do, considering neither Matsui, nor Reyes---both lifelong SS---could handle the job consistantly), I think the Cubs get him for what Cabrera/Renteria got. This is opinion, not facts, of course.
  4. I wouldn't trade Zambrano for a HITTER, PERIOD. Pujols is outstang hitter for his age (wink, wink), but I wouldn't trade Zambrano for Pujols, or Cabrera. And while Hernandez, MIGHT be a stud in the future, I wouldn't trade Zambrano for him, cause IMO, I think Zambrano IN HIS PRIME, will be better then Hernandez in his prime. Now Johan Santana, that is a different story.....Santana is the only one of the four, I would SERIOUSLY consider Zambrano for.
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=4486 Pierre has provided a .350 or better OBP in 4 of his 6 yrs in major league. So, yeah, I consider last yr an off-yr for Pierre. I think this could be a case of buying low, and getting a high reward. But, if we could get Pierre for Patterson and Mitre, then I do it, but anything more, I would look harder at Lofton. People thought Kenny Williams was crazy for trading Carlos Lee for Podsenick, and that look to be a outstanding move. Now, I am not suggesting to copycat the White Sox, but I could see Pierre (or Furcal, for that matter) making the same impact as Podsednick. But it would depend on who the Cubs have to give up.
  6. There is no such thing as "untradeable" in baseball, to me that became readily true, when the Dodgers dealt Piazza to the Marlins. So, I wouldn't say I wouldn't trade Zambrano, but it would take alot more then a 32 yr old, productive OFer. (remember you don't trade YOUNG VALUABLE PITCHING, for an older, more expensive hitter). There are only two people I'd trade Zambrano for: Albert Pujols, and Vladimir Guerrero, that's it. And seeing as I love Zambrano fiery passion, and bulldog mentality, not to mention he is on the grasp of winning a Cy Young, I don't know if I would even trade Zambrano for Pujols or Guerrero. (and no I am not drunk) For those who say, they would trade Prior before Zambrano, I'd say...I wouldn't unless you get Rich Harden, Johan Santana, or Roy Halladay type pitcher in return. Other then that, IMO, you're trading Prior just to trade Prior, in a hypethethical situation, and IMO, Prior still has as much value as Zambrano, the question is health.
  7. I never assisinatned Farnsworth character, cause he doesn't have one. Jenks is a player who deserves ridicule, that will neve change. Patterson, is a kid I ridicule, but never "character assisnated", as I do Bobby Jenks. And I didn't assisinated ARod, that wasn't MY story, I just post a story about ARod. I said it was a "eye-popping" situation, nd for those who think it is "non-story", just remember where there is smoke..... CubfanNY, I will admit I "character assisinated" ONLY Bobby Jenks. You are just putting words in my mouth with Arod/Farnsy/Patterson. And [-X for trying to make me a bad guy, cause I'm not. And I will question you integrity.
  8. Aww....come on.... what about Tino Martinez?
  9. I would as high as 2 yrs, with a mutual option for a 3rd, at around $8.5, but knowing HIM (and remember he puts butts in the seats, you know  ) and I believe his agent, I doubt that get it down. Outside of that, I wouldn't even take a phone all from his camp.
  10. This is a different, and eye-popping situation: Now for those who don't watch Poker on ESPN, Foxsports, etc, etc.....Phil Helmuth is one of the biggest CRYBABIES in poker, or sports entertainment, period. When he lost to Anne Dukes, his lost it. So, for ARod to assoicate himself with Phil Helmuth, speaks volumes about the character of Alex Rodriguez. And for ARod sake, if he wants to play poker, he needs to do it in legitmate places, not back alley "bars", so to speak.
  11. The way I see it is....Jeter ain't even the BEST GG caliber SS on his OWN team (coughsARODcoughs) much less the AL. And yes....IMO, Jeter is a 2B playing out of position at SS. And yes, Jeter is massively overrated, simply because of the amount of $$$ he is making---which BTW, is slightly less then $20 mill per yr). If DJ would be making around 8-10 mill per, he'd be one of the game's best, but at $19.6 mill, he is GROSSLY overrated. Besides, would we even be talking about Jeter if he was on a small market team, say...Detroit (his home town team)? No. Fine player, Jeter is....but make no mistake he is BASEBALL's most overrated player.
  12. If that's why that's ridiculous. Since they made the playoffs last year following that trade. And whatever happened to Laura San Giacomo? Have you ever heard of the David Spade tv show, "Just shoot me" that was on NBC?" Yep....she was on that series.
  13. I posted something similar in the "totally unsubstantially Dusty rumor," thread. For the love of baseball, plz let the Dodgers sign Baker...
  14. Bringing this topic back to the front because: for the love of god, make the Dodgers believe Baker can bring them back to respectability. And plz make Baker beg for the Dodgers. Plz......
  15. Unless the Cubs are moving Murton to SS in a double switch. That would prove the existence of the "Dusty Dice". And be hilarious. While they're at it they should move ARam to CF, Lee to C and Barrett to closer. Once Macias went to CF anything is possible. I'll take Glendon being signed as long as Macias, Perez and Burnitz are not. Macias in CF... What a joke that was. Oh, come on....you got to love the versatility that Macias brings. I mean could you imagine where the Cubs would had been without the superstars of Nefti Perez (here's to you Jon Miller, Nefti Payraise) and Jose Macias? I can't imagine the depths of hell, the Cubs could had been without these guys.
  16. Somebody on the ESPN board heard on "The Score" that Walker's option was picked up. Don't know if anybody can confirm or not.
  17. ATL is more of cost-cutting mode, so I doubt they'd be interested. And they have some youngerster name Jeff Fracnseour there. Yes, they COULD put either Franc or Giles inf LF, but they seem to like Kelly Johnson and Ryan Langerhans, so I doubt ATL will be making any offer Giles. Marcus, imo, will still be a Braves, with Furcal gone. So, I think it'll come down to Chicago and St. Louis (go figure  ) for Giles. The Cubs CAN/SHOULD outbid the Cards, ut Giles may prefer the "winning thing" and go to the Cards.
  18. And I am going to the XTreme, and say 2006 will be the year of the Cubs. (and no I am not drinking) (and no I am not high)
  19. If your car is on blocks and your house is on wheels...you might be a White Sox fan... Could we please stop ripping on Sox fans for socioeconomic reasons??? I find your post elitist, classist, and racist. Quite frankly, these comments make me embarrassed to be a Cubs fan, and even make rooting for my hometown Rockies seem more appealing. Please beware that you're turning off other fans from the team we all love... Thanks. Would you stop being oversensitive? It's is trash-talking, plain and simple. We call them rednecks/trailer park, etc, etc, b/c of the side of Chicago there from, they call us pansy/gays because of the area of Chicago the Cubs are. It's trash-talking. Plz, it you don't like trash-talking (and no it isn't "elitst", "racists", etc, etc) then stay out of the kitchen.
  20. And the feeling I get with Corey is that he is content at where he is at, with his baseball career. Which is unacceptable. Where is the competitor? Where is the "drive?" I'm sorry, this whole buying low/selling high crap is overrated. It's obviously Corey doesn't figure in the long-term plans of the Cubs, so if the organization can pick up a player or two, that CAN LEGITMATELY help the Cubs organization---something Corey can't/won't do---then regardless of talent, Hendry should do it. Corey won't reached "high value" with the Cubs.
  21. I honestly believe he has the offensive upside to improve on those # against righties. I believe he will be a dangerous "Paul O'neill/Mark Grace" type hitter, once Baker (or the future Cub manager) decides to put him into the #6 spot and leave him.
  22. I know alot of people are feeling like :x  , and I know I should feel like :-& , but I'm not. We need to stop feeling pity for oneself, and say.....hey the White Sox 15 minutes of fame is over and they will back to being the "other" team in Chicago. It's going tobe rough for the next 4 months, but hey.....the WSox winning the series is a blessing in disguise. Let them gloat, but remember they'd STILL have to play at maybe the worst stadium (The Cell) in baseball, and the worst part of Chicago, so that's got to bring a little :) to your face.
  23. First: The is one reason why the White Sox will fail to even make the playoffs next yr: the Cleveland Indians. The only reason why the White Sox made the playoffs, was the built such a bad lead, that they coasted into the playoffs. The Indians have as much, if not MORE talent then the White Sox, and they will be hungry and angry for mssing out of the playoffs. So, I bet Cleveland will eliminate the WSox chances at a repeat. Second: I wouldn't say the White Sox have a better farm system then the Cubs, but I would say they have a healthier system. Anderson/Sweeney/Young will have to wait for a shot at playing in Chicago next yr, because you think the White Sox are going to break up their current OF for a rookie? Cause I don't. Third: While they still have work to do, but I do think the Cubs are closer to the WSeries then people think. They just need a season where it clicks. If/when Prior/Z/Wood is healthy, they are the BEST trio in baseball, but as I said "IF" they are healthy. Fourth: I see Felix Pie sparking this team, at some point in the yr. He won't begin the yr in Chicago, but he will be wearing a Cubs uni before AS Game, and I believe he will spark the club.
  24. I personally have him down the list of priorities for the Cubs with Giles being at the top. But maybe someone out there can show me the light on why he should be higher. I know Tim had originally pushed for Burnett and B.J. Ryan, if I'm not mistaken. Do you still feel that way, Tim? Anyone? I don't believe Burnett will recieved even a call from the Cubs. If the Cubs get another starter, I expect it through trade. And believe it or not....it is Furcal (imo), not Giles who tops Hendry/Baker OFF-SEASON wishlist, with Giles (either) being a close second.
  25. Man, either ABC/NBC needs to step up their baseball package, when it comes up for negotiations (if FOX has re-upped) or Fox needs to move McCarver and Buck as the #1 baseball broadcasting team. They were absolutely brutal in their game calling. Heck, I watch part of the Series on Fox, and listen on ESPN Radio.
